Out Of The Storm by Grace Livingston Hill

Good morning lovely Peoples!

Gail Desmond is a companion to Mrs. Adelia Patton. They are on a ship traveling to lands unvisited in the past, when tragedy strikes. The ship they are traveling on crashes into something and the ship is sinking quickly. Passengers are fleeing to the lifeboats and all is pandemonium. Soon Gail finds herself on a raft in the raging sea. With her is an unconscious young man she has never met in her young life. Somehow she must find the strength to survive the sea and hold onto the man.

This is a good book! Gail is a kind and gentle woman, but she has some strength, determination and tenacity when she needs it.

There are some very likable characters in this story. And! A whole lotta adventure!

This was the next book in my book bag. Rick chose the title for me. It’s a winner.

Happy Reading!

Murder, She Wrote A Date With Murder

by Jessica Fletcher, Donalds Bain & Jon Land

Hello Lovely Peoples! This was the next book Rick pulled out of the book bag. The book bag was a good idea for me. When Rick or I pull the next title, out of the bag, I’m usually eager to see what I’m going to read next. I’m not sure when I would have read these books otherwise???

Jessica is at a Labor Day party that her friends, Babs and Hal have every year. Everyone is having a good time, when tragedy strikes and Hal dies from an apparent heart attack. Jessica isn’t convinced. She starts an investigation, where I think, she got in over her head. Her life was in danger. She was dealing with person or persons unknown who were smart, computer savvy and seemed a step ahead of her. And! Someone is a ruthless killer.

It was great to be back in Cabot Cove again with old friends. I hadn’t read a Jessica Fletcher mystery in a while. It was especially fun when Harry McGraw joined in on the sleuthing. I like Harry!

Happy Reading!

The Nine Tailors by Dorothy L.Sayers

Hello lovely Peoples! We’ve been helping with a yard sale all day. It was a beautiful day for it, nice and cool.

Lord Peter Wimsey and Bunter are traveling through a bad snowstorm and in the dark, when they end up in a ditch. So, they decide they are to walk to Fenchurch St. Paul. Upon reaching Fenchurch St. Paul, they meet the Rector of the church.

The Rector and the ringers want to ring the bells at the church for nine hours, to ring in the New Year, however, one of the ringers is seriously ill and unable to participate. So, Lord Whimsey takes the gentleman’s place at his bell.

I never knew ringing church bells was so involved or needed so much practice and commitment on the part of the ringers. The author goes into some detail about bell ringing.

Unfortunately, there is a body discovered. So, the investigation begins.

I loved the characters in the story. They led simple lives and were so innocent. Well, most of them were innocent. There was a person with nefarious intent. The Rector and his wife were adorable and so easy to love.

The ending to the story was great! It was so well described by Sayers. I didn’t solve this mystery. I thought the whole mystery was complicated. Toss in the bells and it was confusing.

I’ve heard this book is her finest work. I haven’t read all of her books, but it could be.

Happy Reading!

Wine Tastings Are Murder by Libby Klein

A Poppy McAllister Mystery

Good morning lovely Peoples!

WARNING: This is a laugh out loud mystery! 😅

Oh my! Well, I didn’t realize when I read this book from the book bag, I was in for a crazy ride. Poppy and Aunt Ginny, who I might is my favorite character, are hosting a Wind and Cheese event at their B & B. Vince Baker and his wife Sunny are the first to arrive and on their honeymoon. ❤️ Well, Sunny has a Pomeranian named Tammy Faye and, as many of you know who have kept up with this series, Poppy has a cat named Figaro. The two pets provide fun entertainment as one reads the book.

On the tour, at the Laughing Gull Winery, someone dies! There are plenty of suspects and a whole lotta motive. It kept me puzzled and I didn’t solve it. I wasn’t even close to solving it.

There is a triangle in this book. And! I don’t like triangles. I thought Poppy should say, get lost to both men and find a new guy.

Overall, I liked the book. Aunt Ginny and her quirky friends were my favorite characters! They can move into a house in our neighborhood. 🏡 Rick told me, if I keep wanting fun, likable characters to live in our neighborhood, we will need to expand the neighborhood! 😉😁

This series was new to me. Happy Reading!

Farmer’s Market

Hello lovely Peoples! We went to the Farmer’s Market this morning. I purchased sour dough bread and potatoes. As we were walking through the many people and looking around ~

Rick says to me: Kathy, look over here.

I glanced in his direction and took two steps backwards, because a man was standing, not far from me holding a BIG snake. It was wrapped around his arms. I didn’t say a word, I walked on.

Rick said to me: You should have seen the expression on your face. It was great!

I’m never speaking to him again!

The Basket Case by Ralph McInerny

A Father Dowling Mystery

Good morning lovely Peoples! I found this book at a used bookstore. Rick drew it out of my book bag. I like used bookstores, and I visit as many as I can find, so I don’t remember which bookstore I bought this one. I also visit used book sales frequently. 📚

This mystery starts out with a baby kidnapping! Well, I didn’t believe for a minute it was a kidnapping. the little one was dropped off at a church, in a basket, with a note giving Father Dowling instructions. That really doesn’t sound like a kidnapping to me. 🤔🧐 What do we have next??? A murder! Then a cold case surfaces! What next??? It’s a puzzle. And a good one. I do like Father Dowling. I thought he was a pleasant character. It did have some profanity and some adult content, so I don’t recommend it for everyone. And! It was a tv series (1989 -1991)

Stork Raving Mad by Donna Andrews

A Meg Langslow Mystery

Hello lovely Peoples! I think I have been rendered speechless. 😐 I’m not sure I know where to begin.

Meg Langslow is back along with her quirky family. And! As usual, she has a house full. The heat in the dorms at the college is broken, it’s winter, and many of the students are living at her home. Actually, the students are living anywhere they can throw down a sleeping bag. ⛺

Now here’s an idea!

There are serious problems in the drama department! Meg’s hubby, Michael, is a drama professor, so he is in the thick of things. The students are putting on a play. The playwright arrives at their home and all is normal, at least for Meg’s home. *haha* I might want to mention, Meg is 8 1/2 months pregnant with twins! 😮

That’s right, you guessed it! Someone is dead, murdered, in Meg and Michael’s home with fifty people or more living in their home. So, Meg’s home is a crime scene! 🕵️‍♀️

This book is hilarious! I laughed so much. 😅 I thought the Chief was especially funny in this mystery.

IF you like crazy! Madcap! Screwball! Hoopla! This could be the book you’ve been looking 👓for.

I haven’t been reading these books in order. I usually do. However, someone else is checking them out of the library as fast as I am, so it’s a jostle, a tussle, a hurry up and get to the library before the book is checked out situation! I do check them out as they are returned. 📚

😅😉😁

Happy Reading!

The Convenient Marriage by Georgette Heyer

Hello lovely Peoples! I have read the next book out of my book bag, and I must say, it was highly entertaining! I can always count of Georgette Heyer to give the reader a merry chase. Oh yes, we have sword duels, highwaymen, rogues, scandals and lots of fun.

Horatia marries the Earl of Rule to save her sister from marrying him, so her sister can marry the man she is in love with. Yes, Horatia is the heroine in this story. Mother has the vapors; I almost had the vapors myself. 😉😁😊 Lizzie appreciates her sister’s sacrifice. But, what is this??? Someone is trying to create a scandal and ruin our heroine. Lord Lethbridge, that rapscallion!!! I called him Lord Lothario. I don’t want to create a spoiler. All is not lost. The Earl is a smart man and Horatia has friends. The Earl was my favorite character.

This was not my favorite book by this author, but it was great fun. I recommend it. Enjoy!

Much Love ~
