March 2009

I am sick of not being out of control …
I am not in control of my body, which has apparently been taken over by aliens from another planet who have decided on medical experiments on all of us with chronic illness, mystery diagnoses and pain …
I am not in control of my day’s plans.  I don’t know from one day to the next if I will be in too much pain or fatigue to stick to my plans or promises.
I am not in control of my work situation …
I am not in control of when I go back to work or not – the doctors and disability folks decide that!

The only thing I can control is my mind, emotions and my knitting ….
I try to stay positive and try not to feel like this is all in my head and I am going insane from not knowing what is wrong with me today …
I try not to get depressed about the present and keep hope for the future …
I try to live one knit and purl stitch at a time ….

But, right now, I just want to scream at the top of my lungs and say
“Give me a Break!” And, Calling Dr. House?!!!

One final note …
My poem that is meant to be sung like the “Rain, Rain, Go Away Song”

Pain, pain go away
Don’t come back for another day
Took my meds, Fog in the head
Just let me get up without you in the morning

I want to thank everyone who entered my first blog contest. It was great to see everyone’s knitting and crochet talents. And, it was even more wonderful to read about who is receiving their gifts of love and compassion.

I apologize for the delay in my decision and this posting. I have been in a lot of pain this past month and have not been able to knit much at all this past month or so. I was able to donate several skeins of my stash yarn to people who are knitting for charity last month, but I am hoping that I will be able to fulfill my resolution to knit for charity by the end of this year.

And now the good news … There were so many great entries that I could not decide on just one winner. So, I have picked two! Both winners will receive several skeins of brand new yarn from my local yarn store.  Congratulations to you both!

Warm Woolies Socks

Warm Woolies Socks

The first winner is McKate  on Ravelry.  Kate is knitting warm socks for Warm Woolies.  Warm Woolies is an organization whose volunteers create warm clothing for poverty-stricken children who would otherwise suffer from cold. Their mission is to provide the very neediest children with wool sweaters, vests, hats, mittens, and socks.  Click here to see more photos of this project or here to join the Warm Woolies group on Ravelry.

Premie Hats

Premie Hats

The second winner is Vitalai on Ravelry. Jennifer is 13 years old and has been knittng since second grade.  She also crochets.  She crocheted 14 premie hats for the Knit One, Save One campaign run by  Save the Children. The Knit One, Save One campaign delivered more than 100,000 caps to newborns in underprivileged countries like Ethopia, Nepal and El Salvador.  Click here to see more photos of this project.
