So, now that most of the moving is almost complete, I finally have found time to pick up my needles again and knit! I am working on a scarf right now. It has been extremely rainy and cold in California this winter, and I definitely need something new to chase the chill away.
I found the original pattern for the scarf in the Knit Along with Debbie Macomber series. This one is found in the Back on Blossom Street booklet. You can find it here.
I modified the pattern instructions so it is easier to read and memorize. I also picked larger needles and cast on fewer stitches to make the scarf a little bit skinnier around the neck.
The width of my scarf pattern is 5 inches. I used 1.75 skeins of yarn, approximately 350 yards for a final length of 92 inches. I can wrap the scarf around once and still have enough length for the scarf to land below my hips.
For a wider scarf, you can easily change the number of cast on stitches. The stitch pattern is multiples of 5, plus 2.
Below is my version of the Chill Chaser Scarf pattern:
Materials:
- 1 or 2 skeins of worsted weight yarn, between 200 to 400 yards. The amount will depend on how long you want your scarf.I am planning to make mine extra long, so I will be using somewhere between 1.5 to 2 skeins, or somewhere between 350 to 400 yards. It can easily be completed with 300 yards of yarn for a shorter scarf.
- US Size 8 circular or straight needles.
Instructions:
Cast on 32 stitches.
Row 1: K2, * P3, K2; repeat from * across
Row 2 (RS): P2, * K3, P2; repeat from * across
Row 3: K2, * P3, K2; repeat from * across
Row 4: P2, * sl1 as if to knit, K2, PSSO, P2; repeat from * across. You will have 27 stitches
Row 5: K2, * P1, YO, P1, K2; repeat from * across. You will have 32 stitches.
Now, you are ready to knit like crazy …
Repeat rows 2 through 5 until you are near the desired length.
End with Rows 2 and 3, cast off.
