Hot off the presses! Meet my latest design and monster …

Monster, Gnome or Both?

My Mischievous Monster Gnome pattern is now ready for download on Ravelry! The pattern includes detailed instructions to knit the Mischievous Monster or Grumpy Garden Gnome! Two patterns in one! You can download the pattern from Ravelry here.

This little guy is very indecisive. One day he is a grumpy gnome working in his garden, and the next he uses the forest magic to change into a mischievous monster.

You will need approximately 250 total yards for your monster, and 285 total yards for your gnome. Any worsted weight yarn will work for this pattern. Suggested yarns include Plymouth Encore, Bernat Waverly, Cascade 220, Patons Classic Wool, or Dancing Dog Dyeworks.

If you decide to make a beard for your gnome or monster, you will also need a brand of fun fur, eyelash yarn for the beard such as Sensations Cello.

Your finished gnome will be ready for your garden or home, sitting at 9 inches in height with his hat on. The legs add extra length, but this gnome prefers to sit and nap under a tree. If you decide to make the mischievous monster version, he will be sitting at 7 to 7.5 inches in height (not including legs).

I hope you enjoy knitting this monster gnome as much as I do.  And, remember to share the monster love with your random acts and join the Random Acts of Monsters group on Ravelry too.

So today I am 42 years old. My body feels like it is 82 years old, but at least it doesn’t look it. LOL.

Birthday Bag

Last weekend, Tony gave me an early birthday gift. He drove me to a mall with its own Harvey Seat belt Bag store. I was like a kid in the candy store as  I was trying on all the handbags. To top it off, the store had some hidden coupons in the candy bowl as part of their Halloween promotion. I was able to pick out a “trick or treat” card that had a 50 percent off coupon! It was like a birthday gift from heaven.  Inside, I was doing happy dances as my handbag was being totaled and wrapped up. I was able to get a thicker strap to add to the bag too!

I love the Harvey Seat Belt bags. They are sturdy, well-balanced, and made of seat belts. It is a stylish way to recycle! I am such a handbag addict. I gave a ton of my handbag collection away before I moved into our new place last year. I just did not have the closet room anymore for it. Handbags lost the battle, and my yarn stash won. I gave away half my yarn stash last year too, but it is slowly building up again in the smallest closet in the world.

These days, I don’t have the finances to splurge on my old addictions of handbags. clothes and shoes. Medical bills take priority, followed by my knitting therapy. Next week, I am supposed to get the Botox in my butt procedure, followed by the nerve burning procedure for my butt joints in December. Hopefully, both procedures won’t get delayed any further and come with no complications when I recover. Both procedures are temporary, and won’t cure my pain levels. But, I am just hoping for a few more good days to help me survive the holidays and start the new year. I won’t be able to afford to do the procedures regularly. So I am hoping the results last longer than expected.

Birthday Blooms

Today is my actual birthday. Tony decided I needed a surprise to arrive on my actual birth date. So I got a surprise delivery or pink flowers in a plant this morning. I am hoping to plant it as it grows to put on the front porch area. But, I do not have a green thumb. Hopefully, this birthday will bloom anyway, and my untalented thumbs won’t kill it.

I have not had any knitting mojo lately. I really miss my knitting therapy. It does help me stay sane. But, I guess after you reach a certain pain level, the ability to knit is lost while the ability to knit with mistakes is multiplied, leading to dead, frogged projects. Hopefully, it will come back. My body will not survive without it.

Looking forward to Christmas. Decorating will be so much more fun now that I am out of apartment living and in a house.  Tony says we will get a tree this year, and I am just dying to get the ornaments out and hung!

Well, we will just see how I am doing as the weather turns colder and rain falls more frequently. Still living one stitch at a time even if I am not knitting.

Not yet in the holiday spirit? Feeling Scrooge-d? Then take a moment to have some Straight No Chaser. There is no secret recipe for this holiday drink. They are an a cappella group that has found new life. The story behind this group was featured here on an ABC News broadcast. The group sang together while  in college, then each of the members moved on with their normal lives before reuniting on YouTube when a copy of their 12 Days of Christmas performance became an instant hit. Straight No Chaser has been reborn this holiday season with a new tour of live performances and their first album of holiday hits titled Holiday Spirits.  Click here to view a video of their new album.  Want more?
