Fright Night

It’s 31st October and Halloween is upon us, so I created this spook-tacular art journal page – Happy Halloween everyone (smile!).

Join me for a hauntingly good time by watching the video below to see how this page came together.

In this eerie tutorial, I’ll be creating a spooky skeleton graveyard art journal page that’s perfect for Fright Night. From selecting the right colours and materials to adding creepy details, I’ll take you through every step of the process.

The mixed media that I used for this page included Archival Ink, Docrafts Stamp Set, Cosmic Shimmer Embossing Glitter, Dry Wall Tape, Faber- Castell Big Brush Marker, Skeleton Bookmark, Crafter’s Companion Topper Pad, Mushroom Ephemera, Washi Sticker, Spectrum Noir TriBlend markers, UniPin fine line marker, Old Magazine and Liquitex acrylic ink.

We saw this Halloween display whilst out shopping, I love the happy skeleton family on the back chair cushion and the cat and dog skeletons and the way they are posed are such fun (smile!).

Thanks so much for joining me today. If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

Happy and creative wishes! x

Cakes almost too good to eat

It’s my hubby’s birthday month which means a visit to Harwoods Patisserie. Inspired by the unique autumnal cake designs I combined autumn ephemera and recycled the cake boxes to create this unique art journal page (smile!).

In this heartwarming art journaling tribute, I’m celebrating the whimsical world of mushroom and pumpkin cakes through mixed media art.

https://youtube.com/shorts/rrIdtS0b7_M

This video takes you on my creative journey and shows my step-by-step approach as I explore the world of art and craft to capture these amazingly designed cakes.

The mixed media that I used to create this page was card stock, recycled patisserie cake boxes, outline border stickers, autumn ephemera, Crafter’s Companion glue tape and Stix2 double sided foam tape.

Here’s the yummy cakes with the cake boxes, that I recycled for my page, from Harwoods Patisserie, which were:

  • Pear and Caramelised White Chocolate Mushroom- cinnamon poached pear with white chocolate mousse on a digestive biscuit base.
  • Pumpkin – pumpkin seed praline mousse, parkin cake with a caramel centre.
  • The mini cakes from left to right were Treacle Tart, Pumpkin and Orange Delice.

Harwoods Patisserie offers a different cake selection to match the season and they are so delicious!

Stay safe and well! x

Thanks for joining me today! If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

Adventures Await

Adventures await at Lytham Hall and today, following my post last week, I’m sharing a page that reminds me of their enchanting and magical willow sculptures (smile!).

In this video, I’ll take you on a fun journey as we explore the whimsical world of art journaling inspired by the beauty of willow sculptures and nature.

https://youtube.com/shorts/Mis6502GgQQ

I had fun replicating a willow circle using Sizzix Thinlits die cuts and some Tim Holtz Kraft Cardstock, it forms the backdrop for my Stamperia Alterego deer. I hope you’ll join me and watch my video as I delve into the world of mixed media art, experimenting with textures, colours, and techniques to create a one-of-a-kind art journal page that I hope will inspire your imagination and spark your creativity (smile).

The mixed media I used to create this page includes Distress Ink, Liquitex Matte gel medium, Stamperia Paper Cuts and Ephemera, Faber-Castell Marker, Sizzix Thinlits Die Cuts, Tim Holtz Kraft Cardstock, Crafter’s Companion glue tape pen, Stix2 double-sided foam tape, washi stickers and Liquitex acrylic ink.

You may remember, from last week’s post, this handsome fellow just hanging around .

This lioness and cub can be found by the Hall itself, looking out over the grounds from the small hillock that they created for them.

These amazing hares can be found boxing in the woods nearby.

You may also recognise this character from a Wallace & Gromit animated film; Gromit is on his scooter as you can find him near the entrance to the car park. All of these stunning willow sculptures were created by a very talented local artist, Helena Mellenchip.

I hope that you enjoyed our adventures at Lytham Hall; we managed to miss one of the sculptures though, maybe we’ll find it next time (smile!).

We had fun at Lytham Hall and the willow sculptures made us smile, as did these hot chocolates that we enjoyed at a local café; as T Stands For Tuesday this photo allows me to join the T Gang and wish you all a very Happy T Day!

Thanks so much for joining me today. If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

Beurre Patisserie Inspired Art Journal

This page was inspired by a visit to Beurre Patisserie; I recycled the pretty pink cake boxes as part of my design which feature the skyline of my home town (smile!).

Please see the video below, and join me on a deliciously creative adventure as I craft a whimsical art journal inspired by the shopfront and sweet treats of this local patisserie; here’s the link to my YouTube channel Let’s Art Journal so, if you wish, you can like this video and subscribe to my channel.

In this video, we’ll dive into the world of art journaling, combining soft colours, playful textures, and delightful patterns to create a one-of-a-kind journal that’s as charming as a Beurre Patisserie in Lytham St. Annes. From elegant cakes to decadent macarons, we’ll draw inspiration from the intricate details and ornate designs of their shop and even recycle the Patisserie cake boxes to create a truly unique art journal.

For this mixed media art page, I recycled the cake boxes and used a combination of Distress Paints, outline stickers and Stamperia ephemera.

Beurre Patisserie opened last year (smile!).

These are the macarons on display in the shop; my hubby had the raspberry and also the Salted Caramel ones, which were delicious!

Here are our cakes, you may remember the Almond Hop pink bunny from my Easter post, and we also had, from their normal daily menu, a Chocolate, Raspberry & Vanilla Pannacotta (single origin macae chocolate cremeux, vanilla & yoghurt pannacotta, raspberry compote dipped in a dark chocolate coating) and my personal favourite Rhubarb & Custard Tart (poached English rhubarb compote, vanilla Crème Brule cremeux topped with a light vanilla whipped mousse) – so very very yummy!

Thanks so much for joining me today. If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

Clitheroe in Springtime

Today I’m using a postcard to create a beautiful art journal page, inspired by the charming town of Clitheroe, Lancashire in springtime.

To see how it all came together, please check out this short video, which is just a minute long; in my Springtime art journaling tutorial, I’m thrilled to share my creative process as I transform a postcard into a beautiful art journal page.

Here’s the link to my YouTube channel Let’s Art Journal so, if you wish, you can Like this video and Subscribe to my channel.

Using Stamperia and Ranger Ink art supplies, I’ll show you how to combine mixed media elements with personal memories to create a unique and meaningful art journal page. I’ll guide you through every step of this fun and easy DIY project. From choosing the perfect colours of spring to adding embellishments to the charming architecture of Clitheroe’s streets, I’m showcasing my artistic interpretation of this picturesque destination – enjoy!

The mixed media I used to create this page includes Distress Paint, Stamperia Stencil, Distress Ink, a postcard that I bought when I visited Clitheroe, Crafter’s Companion glue tape pen, The Paper Boutique papers, die cuts and Stamperia Ephemera.

We visited Clitheroe for my birthday, and had the most wonderful time exploring the quaint streets and shops. We even walked up the many steps to the castle ruins and enjoyed the spectacular views.

There is a beautiful flower shop in Clitheroe with the most amazing displays, the beautiful springtime basket, pictured here on the right, caught my eye (smile!).

Whilst we were in Clitheroe, we also visited our favourite café, called Chocolate Works, and enjoyed a hot chocolate – they are very, very yummy! Our drinks are pictured here with my blueberry muffin and my hubby’s Yorkshire Scoundrel (this is a cross between a scone and a rock bun, it contains dried fruit and has flaked almonds and cherries on the top). With our drinks, I’m joining T Stands for Tuesday, where birthday celebrations are very apt with it being our hosts bEARTHday – wishing you every happiness and Happy T Day everyone!

Thanks so much for joining me today. If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

Tiny Mouse Street Art

My art journal page captures happy memories of our time in Puerto de la Cruz (in Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain) and shows you how a tiny mouse can inspire creativity!

To see how this page came together, please check out this video, which is under a minute long. Here’s the link to my YouTube channel Let’s Art Journal, please feel free to Like this video and Subscribe to my channel too.

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to combine mixed media techniques with Stamperia papers, die cuts and a stencil creating this unique and fun art journal page. From the vibrant colors of the mouse house in Tenerife to the whimsical charm of our furry friend, every element comes together to tell a story of imagination and inspiration.

For this mixed media art journal page, I used white gesso, acrylic paint, Stamperia products including Washi Pad, Volume Paste, Stencil, paper pads and Die Cuts along with some Lustre Wax and the ‘Tenerife’ wording from a postcard that I brought back from my travels.

Here’s the house in Tenerife that inspired my page, can you see the mouse yet?

How adorable is this tiny mouse (smile!). The mouse house can be found in Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife along the beautiful Calle Mequinez, which has lots of large murals on the sides of buildings and also smaller ones, like this mouse popping out of a mousehole, on the building facades – so very cute!

As T Stands for Tuesday, I’m sharing a café latte, hot chocolate and the cinnamon buns that we enjoyed at the Señorita Canelita café whilst in Puerto de la Cruz – Happy T Day everyone! I think the tiny mouse may like the cinnamon buns too, as they are topped with cream cheese frosting (smile!).

Thanks so much for joining me today. If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

Spring

Just for fun, I created this mini art journal page with Spring in mind as today marks the March Equinox (smile!).

To see how this mini art journal page came together, please check out this short video, which is about 30 seconds long. Here’s the link to my YouTube channel Let’s Art Journal so, if you wish, you can like this video and subscribe to my channel.

https://youtube.com/shorts/p3xKXV—F0

This tutorial shows the essentials of how I created this mini art journal page taking a step-by-step using a Stamperia stamp set by Vicky Papaioannou, Distress Archival Ink, Tim Holtz Pocket Cards, Crafter’s Companion glue tape pen, a washi tape flower, Tim Holtz Ephemera and Stamperia “Spring” wording.

Spring flowers are blooming in my garden so it feels like spring is here, but how do you define the first day of spring?

Well, it seems to depend on whether you’re referring to the meteorological or astronomical spring. The meteorological seasons consist of splitting the year into four which are each made up of 3 months, so in this case Spring started on 1st March. According to the astronomical seasons, which refer to the position of Earth’s orbit in relation to the Sun and also considers the March Equinox, the first day of Spring this year is today, 20th March.  Either way, now 1st March has passed and 20th March is here, it looks like Spring has officially started – yay (smile!).

We are looking forward to more spring flowers in our garden, like these bluebells which will be flowering under our apple trees in April; they reminded me of the flower on my page (smile!).

Thanks so much for joining me today. If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you.

The lovely Erika from her blog BioArtGal is hosting over at Art Journal Journey this month; she has chosen Home Sweet Home as her theme, and so, I’m hoping it’s ok to join her as my page celebrates Spring being seen in my garden at home (smile!).

Bananas

It’s the first Friday of the month, so it’s time for this month’s over at the Creative Artiste Challenge Blog, which as always is Anything Mixed Media Goes.

My travels have been providing a lot of inspiration for my pages and this one has gone bananas (smile). We have seen banana plants growing in the warmer climates of Spain, and always enjoy them from the local fruit shops whilst we are there.

I started my mixed media page by painting the background with Wild Honey and Old Paper Distress Paint, and also some white acrylic paint; keeping my brushstrokes vertically down the page. When dry, I stamped a crackle and splatter design over the top using Vintage Photo Distress Archival Ink and a stamp set by Vicky Papaioannou from Stamperia. Then I splattered the page with Vintage Photo and Pine Needles Distress Inks. The banana tree, banana image and wording were all cut from an Amazonia paper pad by Stamperia. I framed some of paper pieces using Create Happiness Christmas Ephemera – Tickets by Vicky Papaioannou from Stamperia, and then arranged everything onto the page using a Crafter’s Companion glue tape pen. To finish, I splattered the page with white Liquitex acrylic ink.

For more inspiration please check out the amazing creations from our Guest Designer and my fellow Design Team members over at Creative Artiste too. All you need to do is to use three different mediums on your projects to join our mixed media challenge; I hope you are inspired to join us, it would be lovely to see you there!

This is one of the banana trees that we saw whilst on our Spanish travels.

Here’s our backpack carrying the bananas that we bought from one of the local fruit shops whilst in Spain too (smile!).
