âBoxing saved meâ: a trans manâs fight for recognition
Danny Baker, a transgender man, spent much of his young adult life grappling with his gender identity, but now, through his passion for boxing, he has found a sense of community and a safer space in which to flourish. Born a female, it was not until he was 21 that he realized that the gender he was assigned at birth did not match his identity. A major reason why he has found himself, Baker explains, has been thanks to his involvement in boxing. After coming across an advertisement for an amateur âwhite collarâ boxing event, Baker is now gripped by the sport.
