On Wednesday, the U.S. House voted to roll back the CFPB’s new overdraft protections, which would have saved consumers $5 billion a year by capping overdraft fees at just $5 for big banks. They also voted to overturn new protections that would’ve required payment apps, including Apple Pay, PayPal, CashApp,Venmo, and eventually Elon Musk’s X-Money, to comply with fraud and scam protections. That’s right Republicans voted to raise bank overdraft fees and let Big Tech billionaires like Elon Musk continue to rip consumers off! The good news is that every single Democrat stood strong against it. We also gained one Republican, Rep. Ryan MacKenzie, for the vote to stop the overdraft fee price hike. But now, we need to make sure both sides know we’re paying attention. Republicans need to know we’re angry and Democrats need to know we know they stood up to Wall Street and Big Tech.
