Visit culturally diverse European schools

Observe progressive Dutch, German, and Belgian schools as a participant, gaining first-hand insights into diverse classrooms and teaching practices. Students will also collaborate with Belgian and Dutch pre-service teachers at universities of applied sciences in Hasselt and Sittard. We will also explore International Schools in Europe to understand how they operate, what it’s like to teach in them, and how to connect with the International School network for future career opportunities.

Explore your interests through the Area of Inquiry

Each student will design and complete an individual research project on a topic of personal or professional interest related to education, culture, or technology. Guided by faculty, you’ll develop inquiry questions, conduct observations and interviews abroad, and connect your findings to existing research. The project culminates in a written reflection and digital presentation, giving you the opportunity to showcase your learning and create a portfolio piece valuable for graduate school or future career applications.

Gain skills in the dynamic field of educational technology

Students will experiment with a variety of digital tools to document and share their learning. Activities include using AI to design a walking tour, publishing a website, recording video reflections, and creating art museum infographics. Along the way, students will also investigate how technology is integrated into European schools, developing both practical skills and critical insights into the role of technology in education.

Live in beautiful European cities

While the program is based in the Netherlands, we will travel on excursions to nearby Paris, France, Brussels Belgium, and other European cities. All housing is modern, comfortable, and centrally located.

Why Join?

LCTE offers the chance to connect with peers and faculty while exploring European educational institutions. Along the way, students build valuable technology skills and experience life in vibrant, modern European cities

Next Steps

Get Information!

Visit the LCTE table at the Global Learning Expo in October or attend an LCTE Informational Meeting. After the Expo, schedule 30 minute ZOOM interview with the co-leads, Drs. Heather Shea & Allison Freed. This conversation will help you reflect on your goals and determine how LCTE fits your educational and professional plans. Schedule interview here.

Apply Early!

We begin interviews in October and typically have a full program by winter break. If you missed this year’s cycle, please submit your application early through the Education Abroad Via-TRM portal.

Make a Plan & Prepare to Travel!

  • Meet with the Office of Financial Aid to discuss costs and scholarships—many go unrequested each year, so apply early!
  • Remember that even if financial aid covers tuition and program fees, you are responsible for some meals, personal expenses, and your flight unless you secure additional funding.
  • Apply for scholarships as soon as possible.
  • Visit the How to Pay for LCTE for more information

Get a Passport (and Visa if needed)
Start your passport application early—it costs about $150. You’ll be expected to bring your passport to a pre-trip meeting. International students should also apply for a visa well in advance. (If you need a new birth certificate, visit your state’s website to order a replacement.)
