Callie's VCUG Results

The results from Callie's VCUG showed that she had Stage 1 reflux, which is the mildest form, on her left side. In Stage 1 reflux the urine is slightly backing up into the ureters but does not reach all of the way to the kidney. The mild forms of reflux normally correct themselves as the child grows. Callie will need to have another VCUG in about 9 months to see if the problem has corrected itself (Yay). Basically this means that she has to stay on a daily low dose of antibiotic (which she hates to take) for the next 9 months. We will have to just watch her closely to catch any signs that she may have a UTI. Taking the antibiotics will not guarantee that she will not get another infection. We will just keep our fingers crossed that she will not get another infection and that the problem will correct itself quickly.

Callie's VCUG

Callie went in and had her VCUG yesterday morning. She did really well. We probably will not have the results until Tuesday since Monday is a holiday. Here are a few pictures from her adventure.

Callie got to wear one of those cute little hospital gowns again. We showed up at the hospital at 8:00am and waited for about 40 minutes for her ultrasound. This picture is from after her ultrasound when she is getting ready for her sedation.

They brought some toys in for her to play with.

She also got to see bubbles for the first time. She wouldn't grab for them though. She would just watch them as they fell and disappeared.

This is a picture of Callie on the X-Ray table. It took them a while to get her IV in again. She was poked 4 times. At least this time the anesthesiologist gave her some gas before they put the IV in so she wasn't really aware of it. Nate and I were not able to be with her while she was getting sedated. It took them about 10-15 minutes to get her all prepped and then we met back up with her and walked down to X-ray.

It was basically a wake sedation. Callie was awake for pretty much the whole procedure, but she was pretty drowsy and out of it.

Here is Callie after the procedure was complete and she was back in the out-patient surgery room. She had wires running everywhere.

Callie had to get the IV in her foot this time. OUCH. It was kind of funny for the first little while it was like holding a newborn again. She had a hard time holding her head up and it was flopping everywhere.

Nate went and bought Callie a little monkey at the gift shop. Here is Callie holding it. See how drowsy she is.

Here is a funny video of Callie. After they wheeled her out of the X-ray room and were heading back down the hall she started yelling. It continued for about 5 minutes. She was disturbing all of the other patients recovering from their surgeries.

Milestone

This past Thursday Callie was playing on the ground on her stomach and she got up on her hands and knees for the first time. I was so surprised. Luckily I had my phone right next to me because I was waiting for a call from the hospital. I was able to capture this moment on camera. Later that night her Grandma and Grandpa Marx came over to help give her a blessing. Callie then proceeded to show off for them by getting up on her hands and knees. She also demonstrated her screaming. Now we will see how long it takes her to learn to crawl. Currently she has only figured out how to push herself backwards.

Nate's Birthday

On Sunday we celebrated Nate's 31st birthday. He didn't want to have any sort of party so we just had a quiet evening at home. He did get to choose what he wanted for his birthday dinner so I ended up cooking him shrimp and king crab.

Here I am de-shelling his crab. I am not sure why, but I really enjoy doing it. Even when we go out to a restaurant and Nate orders crab I insist on getting the meat out for him. Nate doesn't mind one bit. I started doing it after one time watching Nate try to get the meat out and he was digging it out with one of those tiny forks they give you. I pride myself in getting out the whole chunk of meat in one piece.

Here Nate is pretending to feed Callie crab.
Callie really wanted to eat daddy's food.

A day in the life....

Here is a fun video filled with hiccups, laughing, squealing and toe chewing (taken yesterday).

Screaming

So Callie has graduated from squealing to what I would classify as a high pitched scream. She does it a lot when she is excited, but I have started to notice that she does it around bedtime. I think that she starts screaming when she gets tired in order to help herself stay awake. She sometimes does it right near your ear and you are left with a ringing in your ear for awhile afterwards. Here is a video from the other night when we were getting her ready for bed.

Appetite

Well Callie's appetite is back. Here is a photo that I took the other day after I fed her cereal. She decided that she really wanted to play with it and since she wasn't eating unless her hand was in her bowl I decided to let her. The cereal ended up all over her face and in her ear and hair. We were about to put her into the bath anyway.

Looks

Everyone has always said that Callie looks just like Nate. Well here is a funny story about that.

Callie and I were waiting in the hall of the pediatrics unit at the hospital for Nate to come and pick us up so we could go home. A lady that worked in the cafeteria stopped and played with Callie for a couple of minutes and I explained to her why Callie was in there. On her way back to the elevator she passed by Nate. Nate had come up the stairs instead of the elevator so he was a little disoriented and was trying to figure out exactly where to go. The lady from the cafeteria asked Nate if she could help him find something. He explained that he was just a little confused since he used the stairs instead of the elevators. Then she said, "Let me guess, you are looking for pediatrics." When Nate replied "yes" she went on to say "your little girl has a kidney infection, huh. I just met her and she looks just like you."

Well I guess that I finally have to admit that it must be true when a stranger can match father to daughter without them even being in the same room. I still think she looks a lot more like my baby pictures than Nate's, but apparently she looks most like Nate as an adult.
