My new Ebook, Scrapbook Dreams, has now been completed and is available both on Etsy and through me directly. I also intend to publish it on Google Play, and Kindle, at some point in time.
https://www.etsy.com/shop/PhilGennusoArts

This book is comprised of original haiku and short to mid length poems, all accompanied by an original photograph or graphic work of art. A bit less than half (19) of these have been published elsewhere, the rest (24) are entirely new and have never been published before.

This is my third Ebook published. I believe this is my best work so far! My other two books are Horizons and Haiku & Other Short Poems, both still available as Ebooks.

Illustration for the New Yorker Magazine, 1926, by Russian born artist Vladimir Bobritsky (1898-1986). Bobritsky lived through a turbulent time, and eventually left Russia and travelled to quite a few countries, finally ending up in Spain. He excelled in many areas but is best remembered for his graphic illustrations.
This cover displays an exciting combination of the culture and style of the Roaring Twenties, and the bold brush strokes of Constructivism and Cubism, two very influential art movements in Brobritsky’s youth.

Europe, January 1954. Still recovering from the disastrous Second World War. The Soviets under Stalin were an ominous threat, no one knew if there would be another war or not.
This cover for Holiday Magazine by iconic Italian-American designer George Giusti, captures that sense of uncertainty with a direct, simple, and modern style. We see the classic sites, in some boxes, we see colors in other boxes, and only blank white in others. Lines criss-cross, filling the plane, the sense of fragmentation and confusion, is strong and direct.
Yet this is Holiday Magazine. The invitation to travel is there. Europe is worth seeing again, even if the signs of the War’s chaos are still there.
As we know, Europe not only survived, but prospered and grew. The Common Market, and NATO, proved to be amazingly resilient organizations that formed the backbone of the New Europe.
The Berlin Wall fell without massive armed conflict!
This cover is a picture in time. A powerful testimony to history captured by a talented graphic artist and designer, who was born in Europe and moved to America, George Giusti (1908-1990).

I love posters, and graphic designs of all types, vintage, modern, contemporary. On Saturdays, I usually like to post something about this general topic, featuring either an original work by myself or a work I like by someone else.
This week, I am presenting a design I did for a business card, for my own art venture, Phil Gennuso Arts. It is a simple design, clear and to the point.
I reworked a 1970s disco ball, and colorized it and placed it against a solid gold background. For those who might remember, Solid Gold, was a very popular music show in the 1980s, and that reference also is there.
I then chose a bold, black typeface for the lettering, my company name, and email address. Simple, and complete! I could add additional information if I wanted to.
It works out very well as a compact, to the point, business card, or a small, poster style print.

This is my third take (unfortunately) on California fires. It is hard for me to imagine being chased out of your home by raging fire, everywhere you turn. And possibly having your power cut off to boot.
It’s Sunday, October 27, I am sitting back watching the news, there is a rainy storm going on outside my window, my electric heater is on. I am thinking of snow, and Nor’easters and fires and as a New Yorker, I have to say, I am lucky I have never had to deal with fires the way folks in California often do.
My heart goes out to California. I hope the folks out there can get together through their legislature and come up with practical solutions to deal more effectively with this recurring problem.

I know, I have been thinking about this since 1992.
