Morning Hike with Friends to Lost Creek Falls

On a beautiful Sunday morning we drove over to Cornucopia, Wisconsin to meet some friends and hike into Lost Creek Falls. Several years ago we made this hike and were covered in mud because of the trail conditions. Someone has done a wonderful job of improving the trail.

There were a few flowers out along the trail. We saw quite a few Bunchberries and Bluebead Lilies along the trail.

The waterfall was beautiful as usual.

Pattison State Park

After leaving Amnicon Falls State Park we drove over to Pattison State Park. Our first stop was at Little Manitou Falls.

We then drove down to Big Manitou Falls. This is the fourth highest waterfall east of the Rocky Mountains.

The face of the Pattison Falls Dam always makes for an interesting photo because of the water colors.

I love photographing water patterns. They make for great subjects in northern Wisconsin because the tannin in the water gives it a brown color.

The wild flowers were out in great numbers throughout the park.

Lost Creek Falls

We used Duluth as a base and headed out to photograph the waterfalls along the south shore of Lake Superior between Superior and Bayfield. Our first stop was Twin Falls but we were very disappointed to find there was almost no water flowing over Twin Falls. We continued on to Lost Creek Falls.

With all of the recent rain the trail was very muddy. We hiked in from Klemik Road because isn’t as steep as the trail from Cornucopia. There were a lot of mud holes in the trail and knee boots would be a good choice on this hike.Lost-Creek-Falls-14-6-_7843a

There were a lot of wildflowers in bloom along the trail including a rare find. I just happened to look into the wood at the right moment to see this Pink Lady Slipper hiding under dome other plants.Pink-Lady's-Slipper-14-6-_7904

Again we didn’t find as much water flowing in the river as we expected given all of the rain and the wet trail. However, there was enough water to provide some nice shots.Lost-Creek-Falls-14-6-_7886

Tettegouche State Park

This past weekend we made our spring trip to the Minnesota North Shore. One of our stops was at Tettegouche State Park. We decided to hike out to Shovel Point. It was a beautiful sunny day with white clouds in the sky. The lake was the calmest I’ve seen it in some time.

There were a variety of flowers out along the trail including Bunchberries, Bluebead Lily and Virginia Bluebells. They have been working on the trail out to the point for the last couple of years and construction continues. they have widened the steps considerably probably to account for growing obesity of Americans.

After returning from Shovel Point we walked down to the mouth of the Baptism River. We were fortunate enough to see a Loon along the shore. It stayed along the shore for some time.

Good news from the park is that they will be starting a new visitors center this summer. It should be ready by next Year.
