I am not letting,
old age take a hold
for Jesus I’ll continue
to be brave and bold.
Though my hair is thin,
and my bones now creak
but, that doesn’t mean
my faith is now weak.
I am not giving up,
nor will I give in . . .
I’ll not let the aches
over my body win.
My hearing is dull,
my sight is now dim
but, my focus on Jesus
will always be zeroed in.
I am not losing heart,
though by looking at me
wrinkles, bags and sags . . .
are all you might see!

2 Corinthians 4:16
For which cause we faint not;
but though our outward man
perish, yet the inward man is
renewed day by day.
Psalm 71:18
Now also when I am old
and grey headed, O God,
forsake me not; until I have
shewed thy strength unto
this generation, and thy
power to every one that
is to come.

I am getting old,
I cannot lie . . .
I’ve got a cataract
in my left eye.
My arms are saggy,
they flap about
my hearing’s bad
tis why I shout.
I’m getting older,
I must admit
not sure the days
God will permit.
My heart at times,
misses a beat
my ankles swell
so do my feet.
I’m getting older,
but, that’s alright
for I’ve the grace
to stay in the fight.
For God gives me,
all the strength I need
though my body fails . . .
my heart’s up to the deed!

but God is the strength of my heart,
and my portion for ever.

In my golden years,
my faith is mightier
my hope grows steadier
my trust gets sturdier.
The body gets weaker,
the mind is foggier
the memory grows poorer
the recollection’s fewer.
My beliefs root deeper,
my strength gets stronger
my doubts move further
my fears get lesser.
The eyes get dimmer,
the knees are creakier
the spine gets stiffer
the muscles softer.
God gets bigger,
the world gets smaller
the Lord grows nearer
my worries calmer.
In my golden years,
I am more aware . . .
God’s still concerned
about my welfare!

Some people when retired,
are just plain bored
but I find myself . . .
getting closer to the Lord.
Some people with their time,
don’t know what to do
but each year I read . . .
my Bible through and through.
Some people sit all day,
in front of the television
but I just close my eyes . . .
so heaven I can envision.
Some people never leave,
the comfort of their home
but I’m always looking . . .
for lost sheep on the roam.
Some people when retired,
see no real meaningfulness
but my life just gets fuller . . .
with God’s purposefulness!

When your pain is unrelenting,
and no pill will make it ease
when your bones start to creak
and moving is no longer a breeze.
When you lift up your arms,
and a twinge runs down your spine
when your hips throb at night
and all you do is wince and whine.
When your knees cannot bend,
and your feet are too sore to hold you up
when your fingers are too stiff to move
and someone has to lift your coffee cup.
When sleep and rest does not come,
and you wake up in a deep thick fog
when the only fun you seem to have
is writing something witty on your blog.
When your body starts to go downhill,
and your sanity follows it along
that’s when you know you’re getting old,
and let’s face it ~
in my book, that’s just plain wrong!

even I will carry, and will deliver you.”

When did I become the child,
and my children the parent?
What has happened to me . . .
this phenomenon ~ I should inherit?
I am not old and senile,
I still have all my useful functions
but they act as if . . .
I left my caboose at the junction.
I can still form my words,
believe I know their meaning
but it seems that my every sentence
they are constantly screening.
I still remember my phone number,
can recall my home address
but to them you would think . . .
I’ve forgotten ~ how myself to dress!
I can brush and comb my hair,
even wash my face and hands
but they act as if . . .
I should be put out to the pasture lands.
How did I get so dim-witted,
as they became way too smart
who put this silly notion . . .
into their own aging heart?
When did I become the child,
and my children the parent?
Isn’t this what the Bible calls . . .
children who go errant?

My mind is still young,
my body’s getting old . . .
God keeps refining me
from silver into gold.
My strength is weak,
my hips they ache
God’s still trying in me
His image to make.
My hair is thinning,
my knees bump and knock
God continues to work
on me against the clock.
My fingers are swollen,
my toes are bent
God always reminds me
why His Son was sent.
My spine is crooked,
my ankles are swollen
God is letting me know
soon . . . I’ll be golden!

Zechariah 13:9
King James Version
“And I will bring the third part through
the fire, and will refine them as silver
is refined, and will try them as gold is
tried: they shall call on my name, and I
will hear them: I will say, It is my
people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God.”
