Yikes! I had high hopes for a striking feature wall in my bedroom, but compared to these eye-popping looks in Livingetc‘s October issue, I might as well stick a page of the Financial Times behind my bed!
Lines of beauty! Give florals edge by mixing them with multi-directional striped wallpaper.

Dancing on the ceiling! Magic a little period detail into a plain room using a decorative wallpaper. Now this is a pattern worth waking up for!

Alphabet streak. Start little ones off on the road to cool design (and literary genius) with this cheeky alphabet children’s wallpaper by Quentin Blake.

No this is not a vortex! Envelope a hallway in bold wallpaper to form an entrance into calmer living rooms.

Top Trompe! Add depth to a small area with a 3-D design. I love Vivienne Westwood‘s Lace wallpaper – so pretty!

Frieze frame. A wallpaper frieze is a great way to add height to a compact decorating scheme.

Ok, I admit this wallpapered ceiling might be a bit much on a day-to-day basis (especially afters girls’ night), but as a fan of colour, and a fan of feminine boudoir-chic decorating, I’m really drawn to this ambitious floral wallpaper, as seen on gdlaneinteriors blog … they do say, ‘aim high’, after all?
Personally, I wouldn’t go for it in the dining room – it might be a bit much for some dinner guests – but I think this wallpaper would look great in a girly bathroom or bedroom – just as long as it doesn’t spread to the floor!

Who says smart decorating can’t look ‘lived-in’? I love the casual mix-and-match approach to this English Eccentric decorating idea by Ideal Home. A touch of traditional style here, some quirky finishing touches there. Perfect.
Here’s how to get this hot look:
1) Start with a timeless wallpaper with subtle shimmer – a damask design will add a hint of grandeur … daaaarling.
2) Add shapely upholstered furniture – a buttoned back piece never hurt anyone – and team with modern wooden designs.
3) Mix in quirky accessories, eye-catching cushions, and vintage treasures to add a fun twist to the scheme.
This classic-style living room has more staying power than the average child at Disney Land.

Now that’s a boudoir! Shimmering metallics and vintage-style pieces make it a fab place to curl up, M’Lady.

Ok so, I might not feel as rested as I could be after a busy weekend, but if anything’s going to snap me out of the Monday tiredness it’s the prospect of stealing wow-factor wall tips this Thursday lunchtime.
Wall stencil guru and co-founder of The Stencil Library, Helen Morris, is popping into Housetohome.co.uk for a Wow-Factor Walls Webchat at 1pm, and is sure to reveal some fab tips and advice – so much more fun than standing in the queue at M&S!

Check out this cool bedroom wallpaper idea from Livingetc.com. It’s a great alternative to a bold feature wall and what a sunny sight to wake up to! In fact, the walls have been kept pretty neutral, with cow-print carpet tiles adding interest to the floor (poor Daisy though!).
The rest of the house is just as eclectic as this children’s bedroom. I’m sure they won’t mind if you take a little look around this New York brownstone house … just remember to wipe your feet!

You can take the home out of Brighton, but you can’t take Brighton out of the home! Everytime I visit my friends in Brighton I always get that twinge of jealousy when I see their fun-filled pier, hear the sound of seagulls, and smell the fresh sea air! So what’s a London loving girl to do? Bring Brighton to me, that’s what!
Check out this super cool wallpaper from Harlequin. It’s part of their Identity range of really quirky designs including pendant lights, strong stripes and geometric prints.
If they could just design patterns for Paris, New York and maybe the Maldives, I would never need to leave the house!

Ooooh, and do you remember me getting all excited about that bookcase wallpaper in ‘Who needs books?’. Well, as I was invading the privacy of colour expert Joa Studholme’s beautiful Victorian home (see below), I caught a glimpse of it in the living room, along with the ‘faux’ lampshade designs. She told me to check out Deborahbowness.com for more quirky designs, including my favourites, ‘Wallpaper Frocks‘. They’re almost better than the real things … almost!
And if you want to know an inside tip? Joa says that the key is to forget lining them up neatly, the key to quirky is deschevelled!

I was having a browse on madebygirl and a cheeky house started playing tricks on me! Not only has it discovered an alternative to buying the latest bestsellers (and reading them!) with that quirky bookshelf canvas, but it looks like they’ve also done away with dining room lighting – all in the name of art!
