another clean and simple card

This card is for the color challenge at SCS this week.  It calls for using some great summer colors – sand and two different shades of blue – so we are still thinking beach!!  Yay!!

The foliage images, from Starvingartistamps were stamped in sand and the sentiment, from Papertrey in Not Quite Navy.

Easy peasy as they say!!

Thanks for stopping by today!

Sunset Scene

I’m playing along today with Impression Obsession’s  “Oldie’s But Goodies” challenge – details found HERE.

I started by stamping the main image on neenah white cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black in and colored with prisma pencils.  Then I sponged the sunset with Memento Dandelion and Cantaloupe and the water with Summer Sky inks.  It was mounted on blue cardstock from SU.  The base card is SU cardstock as well and the small dragonfly image (also from IO) was stamped in the background with versamark ink.

botanicals

The latest challenge on the Moxie Fab blog is “fanatical about botanicals” and I’m playing along!  The challenge is to make somethings using botanical designs, which seem to be everywhere these days.  Here is my card:

The pattern papers are from DCWV Lemon Flower stack.  I love the combination of yellow, grey and black.  I stamped the floral image (from StarvingArtistamps) in black on one of the neutral pattern papers.  The sentiment (from Flourishes) was stamped on one of the white patterned papers and punched out using an SU punch.  The base card is a very pale yellow – don’t know where it came from but I suspect it is from Michaels or JoAnn’s because it is a lighter weight than SU.

Thanks for stopping by today!  My copic class on Saturday went very well and I hope to share some of the cards we did with you here.

ladies – start your engines

Tomorrow, June 17, an event will take place that may shock the motor world.  It’s not taking place in Detroit, Daytona or even at Le Mans.  It’s taking place in Saudi Arabia.

For on tomorrow, women  in Saudia Arabia are planning to do something they are not allowed to do there.

They will drive.

Yes, Saudi Arabian women are forbidden from driving.    It seems that if they drive, they might come into contact with…….non-related men.   Horrors!   So the Saudi women must bum rides from their male relatives.  Or they can hire a driver or take a cab – which will result with them coming into contact with….non-related men.   What’s a girl to do.  They can ride horses and camels, by the way.

I’m not sure what other shenanigans the Saudi women would get into if they could drive legally.  Maybe the powers that be over there are afraid the ladies will do a “Thelma and Louise”.   Or maybe they’ll just drive on over to the airport and fly out of dodge  to a place where they can drive without any hassle.   And vote.   In reality they will probably just do what other women do.  Drop the kids off, run errands like going to the grocery, bank, etc.  Maybe lunch with the girls or shoe shopping.

Last month Manal Al-Sharif drove around town and posted a video on YouTube.  She was arrested and spent 10 days in jail.   For driving.  She was called sinful, malicious and immoral.   Perhaps we should call her the Saudi Rosa Parks.   This prompted the June 17 protest calling for women to drive.

So, in what may be the 2011 version of I am Woman, hear my car engines roar, in what is hopefully numbers too big to ignore, let me salute the Saudi women for taking it too the streets.

Ladies, start your engines, get your motors running and put the pedal to the metal.  Get out your mustang , Sally, go ride on the freeway in your pink cadillac,  little deuce coupe or 409.   While you’re at it have a little fun, fun, fun till the guys take your T-Bird away, but know there are many women around the world supporting you.  This one is for you.

happy memorial day!

I hope you are all enjoying this last day of the three day Memorial Day weekend.  It’s hot and humid here in Florida – summer is here!  The beaches are packed and have been all weekend so we are staying at home.

I decided to check out the Clean and Simple challenge at SCS today and it called for making something with folded or scrunched ribbon.   As I looked around my craft room I found this piece of turquoise grosgrain ribbon.  It was only about a foot long and was frayed on one end.  I have no idea where I got it, and it is the only piece left.  Hmmm…what to do, what to do.

Then my eyes spotted the pad of paper called Flea Market from Colorbok, which includes a  couple of “text” pages that contained pops of turquoise and red.  I was set!  Here is the card:

The text is the definition of “family” (it’s hard to read) and the word “family” is in turquoise.  I mounted the panel on SU Turquoise cardstock.  My ribbon was a perfect match so I folded it and added a red polka dot brad from My Minds Eye.  I left the frayed end of the ribbon – it just seemed to look good the way it was.

The red cardstock is also SU, and was placed off center to add interest.  The base card is some generic stone/grey cardstock – probably from Michaels.

Once this was finished I realized I had made a kinda/sorta “red, white and blue” card, although mine is red, turquoise and off white, I thought it was fitting for today!

Thanks so much for stopping by today.

berry vs. berry – what’s in a name?

I’ve been working on a couple of cards using a berry image that can be colored to look like either raspberries or blackberries.  When I first started I wanted to get some photos of berry images for color inspiration.  So I did a generic search on google for “berry images” and it came back with pages and pages of photos of a berry – Halle Berry!!!

OK – so I learned a quick lesson about not being specific enough in my searches.  I refined my search to more specific “blackberry images”.  As soon as I hit “enter” I knew what I was going to get.  Yes – pages and pages of blackberry’s – the phone not the fruit.

(sigh)  Well – let’s get as specific as possible.  Search for “blackberry fruit”.  Now I am on a roll!  Pages and pages of blackberries – the fruit!   After all that here are my cards – a blackberry version and a raspberry version:

The image  (from Flourishes) was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on copic x-press it cardstock, mounted on a black panel, then mounted on a scalloped square with SU cardstock – eggplant I think.   The base card is PTI’s Soft Stone.  The patterned panel is from Basic Grey Eva series and the purple grosgrain ribbon is SU.  There is just enough room on the bottom for a sentiment, which I will add later.

Copics I used to color the image are:

  • For the fruit:  V12, V15, V17
  • For the leaves:  YG99, YG93, YG91, and Y06

Here is the raspberry version of the card – same layout.

The colors on this card are actually less bright than in this photo.  I used SU’s razzleberry for the scalloped panel.  The patterned panel is from Basic Grey’s Urban Prairie series.  The ribbon is from JoAnn’s.

Copics I used for the fruit are:  RV19, RV17, RV11.  The leaves were colored with the same markers as in the blackberry card.

Thanks so much for stopping by today.  I hope you have a great Memorial Day weekend!

clean and simple monday is hot!

This weeks clean and simple Monday challenge at  SCS is to use the colors daffodil, poppy, peach and white.  When I pulled these colors out I thought – hot!!    They’re bright, cheery and remind me of summer.  I hope they will bring a little warmth to wherever you are!

The first card uses a stamp that I have always had trouble coloring, but absolutely LOVE it just stamped in color with no additional coloring.  The image is this beautiful Peony image (from Flourishes).    I started by taking a piece of daffodil paper and stamping the text background in peach. Oh yes, that text background – from Papertrey?  I could probably use on every card and never get tired of it!   The trim and button are from my stash of “stuff” and I have no idea what brand they are.   I sponged the edges of this panel in peach as well and stamped the Peony in red over the text.   The base card is daffodil and I sponged a bunch of peach along the edges.  It really changes the look of the daffodil cardstock and reminds me of summer sunsets.

The next card uses the same colors but has a completely different feel – much cleaner.    I stamped the flower (from the Autumn Leaves Flowers set) in red and colored lightly with both daffodil and peach.   The pearl in the center of the flower was colored with a peach copic marker.   I drew a line with a multiliner and stamped the sentiment (from Mark’s Finest Papers) in red as well.  This panel was mounted on peach and red and attached to a daffodil card base.     So you see – these same colors provide very different looks!

Thank you so  much for stopping by today.  I hope you will join us this week at the clean and simple challenge at SCS!!

a color challenge

It’s been awhile since I participated in a color challenge and when I saw the colors for this weeks challenge on SCS, I almost passed on it.  But….that is why they call it a challenge!

The colors to use included eggplant, red and suede.  I never would have thought to combine these, but I like the end result.

I stamped in image with Memento Black ink on Copic X-Press it blending cardstock and colored with R39, R37-R35 for the flower and V09-V01 for the butterfly.  Soft suede ink from SU was sponged on the panel.

SU papers in red and suede were used for the base card, cuttlebug folders for both embossed panels.  The brad is from Bo Bunny.

clean and simple monday

It’s “clean and simple” monday once again and today’s CAS challenge is to use the color combination of chocolate chip, kraft, wild wasabi and white.

I am so glad I was able to finally use this super cute ribbon I picked up at my LSS about a month ago.  It’s a 1.5″ wide grosgrain with the large polka dots.  I snagged a yard of this in the green – which was such a good match for the wasabi paper, as well as in blue, bright pink and a marigold-yellow.   With a ribbon this wide and bold the rest of the card needed to be a bit more subdued.

I embossed a piece of Crane’s Letter paper (this paper was made for letterpressing and it works wonderfully for embossing) with a cuttlebug folder, mounted in on kraft, then chocolate, then the wasabi card.

I threaded some raffia through the button holes and attached it to the ribbon.  The sentiment is from Papertrey and was stamped  on white with cocoa ink and punched with an SU label punch.

I hope you will joins us this week for the CAS challenge!  Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Holly and berries

Here’s a clean and simple card made for the winter CAS design team search on SCS.

The image (from Auntie Amy’s – which has been sold to I Brake For Stamps) was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black on copic X-Press It paper and colored with copics (G40, G85, G99, R46, R89, B0000, B00).

The sentiment was computer generated.  I mounted it on cherry cobbler and sky cardstock and embossed the base card with a snowflakes embossing folder.

It’s hard to tell from the photo but I used a stardust gel pen to add glitter to the berries and sentiment.
