Fall Cards

I was a bit productive yesterday and ended up making four fall themed cards.

I used similar materials in the cards – Desert Storm cardstock, Distress inks in Scattered Straw, Spiced Marmalade and Fired Brick colors, leaf dies from Spellbinders, Sizzix, and Cherry Lynn, a woodgrain stamp from Papertrey and some sentiments from an old TPC Studios set.

Here is how it started. I took the Distress inks and smooshed them on some watercolor paper.

I then spritzed water on the inks

I swished the water around to blend the inks. Once dry, I then added another layer of ink and water, just to get the blend I wanted. This is how it ended up:

I then took a variety of leaf dies and cut them out. I was not sure which ones I would use, so I just did a random selection:

Then it was just a matter of designing and putting together the cards. Here is a closer look at each one:

This one uses an embossed background behind a stitched cutout frame.

This one has the center cut out, with a stamped woodgrain background, speckled with some distress ink.

This card uses a stitched rounded rectangle, again with the woodgrain background with some leaf stamps with the die cut on the front.

For the final card I cut out a tag shape, stamped with the woodgrain background and added the oak leaf dies on top. The base card has some leaves stamped in versamark, along with a excess piece of the paper that was covered with the distress inks.

World Cardmaking Day

Hello fellow card makers!! It’s the first Saturday in October and that means it is World Cardmaking Day!!

Here is a clean and simple card I made to celebrate..

I cut the coffee dies out with some patterned scrapbook paper – I don’t remember where I got the dies from – hopefully someone recognizes them and will let me know!

The paper is some speckled cardstock I have had in my stash forever.

I cut some squares using spellbinders dies and added the coffee pieces on them. The sentiment is from an old TPC Studio stamp set.

clean and simple monday

It’s been awhile since I played along with the clean and simple challenge at SCS.    Today’s challenge was to make a card inspired by a breakfast photo – coffee, a danish and an apple.  Here is my take on it

This is about as clean and simple as you can get!  The stamps are from TPC studio  I colored the coffee cup with copics, cut it out and popped it up on the card.

We’ve been having wonderful weather here in Florida.  The humidity is down (relatively speaking, for us) and there is a nice breeze.  It will probably be about 80 here today – a welcome change from the high ninety’s just a few weeks ago.

autumn leaves

I guess fall is kicking in.  The craft stores have had fall/winter items in their stores since July, so we better get going on all those holiday craft items!  It is still summer here – hot and humid and today we are getting much needed  rain from Tropical Storm Lee.

Here is my fall card – for today’s inspiration challenge at SCS.

I used a stamp from SU’s Autumn Leaf Prints – probably one of their best leaf sets that I will never part with!  I colored the stamp with markers tangerine, cajun and espresso.  The sentiment is from Papertrey.

The embossed background is folder from The Paper Studio – I am so glad other companies are getting into the embossing folder market.  It really gives us crafters much more variety.  The paper I used for the embossing is some cardstock that I have had for ages – probably 10 years now.  I purchased a ream of it at Kelly Paper in California.  It is heavy weight and has tiny blue fibers throughout it.

The chocolate grosgrain ribbon?  A month ago I purchased a set of white washcloths from Bed Bath and Beyond and they were held together with two of these ribbon pieces.  Of course I had to save the ribbon – I knew it would be used on a card one way or another!

The base card is from SU – probably hunter or forest foliage.

Thanks for stopping by today.  I’ll be off the grid for awhile visiting family.

knit happens

If you know of someone who knits, then this cute set, from TPC, called Yarn Crafts is for you!  It has some super cute yarn images and sentiments.  I could not help picking it up at the last 40% off sale at JoAnn’s.

The colors I used were based on this weeks color challenge at SCS, calling for the colors of pool party, wasabi, and chocolate.  I did not have the pool party color, so I improvised the the best match I had in my stash.

I stamped the image in memento black and colored it with the following copics:  B21-B23-E42-E44-R49.  Circle nestabilities were used for the round shapes and an EK Success fence punch for the border.  The sentiment was stamped in memento rich cocoa.

clean and simple monday

Hello friends!

It’s been a while since I last blogged – nothing earth shattering going on, just the normal everyday things that keep you busy!  I’m so glad I was able to get the time to stamp today – I’ve missed it!!  This card is for today’s clean and simple challenge at SCS, which is to make something using the Artists “rule of three”.

Now, anything on your card can be in “three’s”.  The most obvious is the three rhinestones on the front panel, but that was just an afterthought.  My intent for this card was to use the red/rust color three times.  In this case the color shows up on the base card, on the sponged edges of the stamped panel and on the sentiment.

Let me tell you about this background image – I found it at JoAnn’s last week.   I was looking at the clear stamp sets when I noticed half of the display was made up of cling rubber!!!!  YES!!!  More and more companies are going to cling rubber and I am thrilled!

But what is even better is how they cling.  Some of the new cling stamps – like from SU and Hero Arts have a vinyl cling material on the back which is what is supposed to cling to your acrylic block.  Some of my large Hero Arts stamps just don’t cling “enough” for me.    This image, from TPC Studios has the image printed on the cling foam!  No vinyl!!  Just like a stamp with EZ Mount Cling Foam – only better because the image is printed on the foam.  And it clings perfectly!   And the set was on sale for 40% off!  It’s called Secret Garden Collage and comes with this image, a floral image and several sentiments.    I am in stamping heaven!!

The colors I used were all Memento inks – Dandelion, Potters Clay and a little Rhubarb.  The sentiment is from Papertrey.  The red cardstock from SU.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

the colors of autumn

Autumn is filled with rich reds, oranges, yellows sprinkled in between the greens and browns.  It’s a beautiful time of the year – even down here in Florida where a few of the trees  have leaves that turn colors!

This card was created for today’s clean and simple challenge at SCS which called for using fall colors.

I stamped the leaf and sentiment onto vanilla cardstock.  The leaf was colored with daffodil, pumpkin, tangerine and cherry markers.  The sentiment and lined frame was done in cocoa.  I love this particular leaf set from SU, called Autumn  Leaf Prints.  It’s retired now, but I don’t think they have made a leaf set as nice since this one.   The leaf was also stamped in the background with cherry ink.  The sentiment is from TPC Studio.

The paper is cherry, espresso and kraft – and this combination goes so well together.  The richness of the cherry against the dark espressor reminds me of chocolate covered cherries!

i have 9 pillows on my bed

Nine.  Pillows.  Almost all are decorative – in fact we only use two at night.  So…….is that too many?  They look nice and my little dog Brandy likes to snuggle in between them when we are not looking.   I’ve always liked the look of bed with lots of pillows – it makes it look comfortable.   How many do you have on your bed?

All this pillow talk has absolutely nothing to do with this card.  But for some reason people are thinking its autumn!

It’s September.  Vacations are over, kids are back to school and the stores all have halloweeen,  thanksgiving and christmas items on display.

Really?  It’s still in the 90’s here and humid as anything and my mind is still on beaches, barbeques and mojito’s.

But the fall weather is happening somewhere, and since I love the colors of fall I thought I’d make a card celebrating autumn.

I sponged Memento inks (dandelion, cataloupe, bamboo and rhubarb) on a square piece of cardstock, stamped it and cut it into four squares.  The sentiment panel was sponged with the same colors.

It was mounted on olive, then burgundy.  The images are from TPC Studio.

clean and simple

I needed  a sympathy card recently and I chose a clean and simple design.   Sometimes it can be  difficult to make these types of cards – I find it  best to focus on a simple message with an understated design.

The base card uses Crane’s Lettra Paper – which is designed for letterpressing and works beautifully with the leaf embossing folder.  I love the thickness and softness of this paper.

The branch on the main panel was stamped using Memento Summer Sky ink, the sentiment in Memento Rich Cocoa.  The branch is from a TPC Studio set called Autumn Harvest, the sentiment is from Flourishes.

A blue panel and sheer blue ribbon are the only other items on the card.
