Men’s Valentine Box

Happy February! Hello crafters – we are in the dead of winter, but still staying warm in the craft room and getting ready for Valentine’s Day!

Since it is the first of the month, it is the start of a new “More than one Score” challenge at the Scor-Pal blog. This month we want to see your Love/Valentine creations.
You can follow the theme if you like, but if you don’t want to you can do an “Anything Goes” creation as long as it follows the general rules
Each month we will have a different theme and you will have a month to create and enter your projects. As well as the theme you will need to make “More Than One Score” and tell us where you used the Scor-Pal on your project. So a single fold card won’t count but an Easel, Gatefold, Stair Step, etc will. Also we love to see your “Anything But a Card” projects, just as long as you make “More Than One Score”
We have a ton of inspiration on our Projects on the Scor-Pal website and also on our Pinterest Board to get you eager to enter.

You can get the Scor-Pal here and Scor-Tape here.

Today I have something different than the typical Valentine’s Day card – it is a gift box with a masculine twist. No pinks or lace on this one!!

As you can see, I’ve used blacks, grays and metallics to create the box. Here is how I did it.

I took a piece of black cardstock measuring 7 x 12. On the short side I scored it at 1.75. On the long side I scored it at 1.75, 5.75, 7.5 and 11.5.

I cut the bottom section as shown below to make the tabs for the bottom of the box.

Now for the panels…I used a cuttlebug embossing folder called Decorative Tile, but there are several folders available that can be considered more masculine. The paper I used for the embossing is from Cut Cardstock. It is from their Curious Metallic line called Hades. It is a heavy weight paper, metallic with a charcoal grey color. I’ve had it for over 10 years and it looks like it is no longer available.

I embossed three pieces of the cardstock then covered all of them with metallic rub-ons.

I’ve also had these rub-ons for over 10 years – just stuck in a draw. I saw a post on Facebook where someone embossed a piece of dark cardstock then rubbed the design over with gold metallic rub-ons and this is where I got the idea. The result here gives a great silver metallic look to the embossed panel. A little goes a long way with these rub ons.

Once all the panels were done I cut them to size and placed them on the box and then put the box together using Scor-Tape.

For the front, I embellished it with several dies. The rounded tag die was cut with paper that has a very subtle houndstooth pattern. The sentiment is from a Valentines stamp/embossing folder set I got from Michaels last year for $5. The hearts and arrow are just miscellaneous dies I had in my stash. I finished it off with two silver brads in the top corners of the box.

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you check out the Scor-Pal blog and see what the other designers have made.

#1 Dog Dad!!

Hello everyone and welcome to June – happy summer!  Today’s project works with the monthly Scor-Pal Challenge..

Each month we will have a different theme and you will have a month to create and enter your projects. This month we are going with a Masculine them.  Along with the theme you will need to make “More Than One Score” and tell us where you used the Scor-Pal on your project.

I used my Scor-Pal, Scor-Tape and some dies to make the box.  You can find the Scor-Pal here, and Scor-Tape here.

Since this project has a masculine theme I went with darker colors.  I started with a piece of brown cardstock measuring 10.5″ square.  I scored it all sides at each 1/2 inch.

To make the box I cut at the 3.5 inch mark – see below.  If you’ve done boxes this is pretty standard.

Then I taped the sides to make the actual box using Scor-tape.

For the top, the process is the same, only I used a piece of paper measuring 6.5 ” square and scored at each 1/2 inch.  Then I marked with a white pencil where to make my cuts – which were at 1.5″.  Now……I realized after I added all the embellishments on the top of the box that I really did not need to score at each 1/2 inch, so if you want you can just score at 1.5″ all around.

Make your cuts and tape the ends.

To finish it off I added some coordinating paper to the sides of the top and added die cuts to the top.

Scor-Pal More Than One Score Challenge – Masculine/Father’s Day

Hello crafters – happy June!!  I hope this summer is going well for all of you.  It certainly is  little different these days, but we are all hanging in there!

It’s the start of the month, which means a new Scor-Pal challenge with a Masculine/Father’s Day theme

Each month we will have a different theme and you will have a month to create and enter your projects. As well as the theme you will need to make “More Than One Score” and tell us where you used the Scor-Pal on your project. So a single fold card won’t count but an Easel, Gatefold, Stair Step, etc will 🙂 Also we love to see your “Anything But a Card” projects, just as long as you make “More Than One Score”
We have a ton of inspiration on our Projects on the Scor-Pal website and also on our Pinterest Board to get you eager to enter.

I created a Pop Up gift card holder with a masculine flair.   I used a Scor-Pal, Scor-Tape and some old stamps from Power Poppy. The image was colored with copics. The Scor-Pal can be found here and Scor-Tape can be found here.

Here is the inside of the card – when you open it up the gift card flips up.

I started with a piece of cardstock measuring 4.25 x 11 and scored it at  4.5, 5.5 and 6.5.

Then fold on the scor lines so you get a valley/mountain/valley fold.

Flip it over and place a narrow strip of scor-tape along the bottom.

Using the edge of a die cut, or a punch,  cut the flap for the gift card as shown.

Here is what it will look like once the cut is made – you can just slip the gift card in the slot.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!  I hope to see your entries on the Scor-Pal blog!!

Oh Boy!

Hello friends – It’s time for another challenge at the Sisterhood of Crafters Challenge Blog.   The challenge is a Boy Theme – all the details are found here.

My card uses no stamps – just a fabulous die set.

I used paper from a Christmas paper pack I’ve  had for years.    Love the plaid pattern – doesn’t just about every little boy end up in a  plaid sweater vest and bow tie at least once in his life?   I hope you’ll participate is this challenge and look forward to checking out all the card.

I Brake For….Joe Surfer!!

Hello stamping friends!  I have a real hunky card for you today!  I’m pulling double duty with this one – it’s for my turn on the I Brake For Stamps blog as well as the Sisterhood of Crafters Challenge Blog.  Take a look at this guy!

This hunky guy is called Joe Surfer and can be found on the I Brake For Stamps store here.  He is one of the many Humorous Seniors stamps available at IBFS.  You can see the entire senior collection here. Don’t you just want to see him on your local beach!!   I stamped him in Memento ink and colored with copics.  I built a little scene behind him with a pierced circle sponged with some distress inks and added the sand with a curved border die.  Since I live in Florida I tend to have a lot of beachy type paper packs which sometimes will include a few stickers – I’ve added those along the left side.

The Sisterhood of Crafters new challenge starts today and the theme is…Boys To Men/Masculine.  So get out those guy type stamps and have a go at it.  The challenge blog can be found here.

I hope you will hop on over to the IBFS site to take a look at all the stamps available.  Use code SAVE10NANCY and get 10% off your order.

I Brake For…..Bass Fish

Hello stampers – it’s Wednesday and time  to show you another  great stamp from I Brake For Stamps.  This one is called Bass Fish,  Here is my card.

Let me tell you that I love the size of this image.  Big enough to fill a card and great for coloring.  When I first saw this image I thought it would make a great masculine card – and perfect for Father’s Day for those men who love to fish.  Then I thought….I know several women who love to fish as well – just as much as the guys.  This would make a great card for those women!  It made me realize that I have to get past the old traditional “if it’s a fish its masculine, if it’s a flower its feminine” thinking.  In fact, I used to work with a guy who had the most amazing flower garden in his backyard.  I could definitely send him a floral card and not feel funny about it.

I stamped the image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and colored with copics.  I sponged some Memento Cantaloupe ink around the edges.  On the base card the text “GO FISH” is computer generated.

The Bass Fish stamp can be found here. I hope you hop on over to the IBFS store and take a look at the thousands of stamps available.  Use the code SAVE10NANCY and get 10% off your order.

Feminine and Masculine cards

Happy New Year my crafty friends!  I hope your holiday season went well and that the new year holds wonderful things for you.  Here in Northwest Florida the holiday season is still in mid stream because we are just about to start Mardi Gras season.  When I lived in Connecticut and California I thought of Mardi Gras only on the actual Fat Tuesday when the news showed all the celebration in New Orleans.  Little did I know that the party is all along the northern gulf coast and begins on January 6 and ends on Fat Tuesday, which is February 28th this year. This area will be filled with parties, balls and parades until then.

So. onto cardmaking.  Have you ever taken a favorite card of yours and made different version of it?  I frequently use the same overall design or sketch and mix it up with a variety of colors and patterns and stamps.  Take a look at the cards below.

I created the pink version back in 2010.  I love the overall design and the simplicity of the image.  The rhinestones, ribbon and hat pin with beads, along with the pink and black color scheme all come together for a very feminine card.  I wanted to take this card and make a masculine version of it so I took another image and colored it with blue and black copic markers (I used the B00 – B05 and N1 – N8 colors). I chose a different embossing folder and used just the bare minimum of embellishments  – a metal brad.

I really like how the masculine version came out and will most likely use this overall design again.

Clean and simple Monday – background builders

Hello friends – I hope your week is starting off well.  It’s the fourth of July week and everything seems to be decked out in red, white and blue around here!

I’m playing along with the CAS challenge at SCS – this week we are to use the colors navy, olive and white.  I also decided to let my stamps do extra duty by creating the background on this card – no it’s not designer paper – just stamps and ink!

I love the versatility of this particular set – Medallions Background Basics from PTI.  It contains two long images – I stamped on in blue and the other in green (both Memento inks) to create the pattern.  The colors have a nice masculine feel to them.  The sentiment is also from PTI and was stamped in the same blue ink used in the background – which is another great reason to use stamps to create a background – instant coordination!

Because this card was so easy to pull together, I decided to make another one – this time with much softer colors.  Here is how it turned out.

I used Palette’s Toile Pink ink (because the Memento Pink I had was just too bright) along with Memento New Sprout.  New Sprout is a close match to SU’s Celery color.  I used celery paper and ribbon on this card.  The sentiment was stamped in a slightly darker green – Memento Bamboo leaves so that it would stand out more.

So – a couple of stamps used in a similar manner but by changing the ink colors I ended up two different looks.

Hello! Welcome to Mark’s Finest Papers a Heinrich Company’s February Blog Hop!
This month’s New Stamp Set Releases are
Relax A Bit Featured February 14
North American Woods Featured February 15
Blessings Featured February 16
Dogwood Blossoms Featured February 17

Yesterday’s card was all feminine – today it’s all about the guys!  Here is my card featuring images from todays release – North American Woods.

I stamped the image with Memento Ink on white cardstock and sponged with Memento inks.  The frame was also white cardstock sponged with similar colors.  I used Memento Dandelion, Cantaloupe and Potters Clay.  To make it more rustic I used a stipple brush and stippled some black around the frame.

Nestabilities were used to cut out the circles.    I used kraft, black and red cardstock from MFP.  Black twine seemed a good choice to finish it off.
