It must be acknowledged that although the working class, by definition, includes all of those who don’t own the means of production, their material conditions are relative and vary greatly. An American worker who is given $10 USD per hour and can afford a meal with every 30 minutes of labor (effectively fifteen meals per day), does not live in the same material conditions as even his southern neighbor. Just across the border in Mexico, a meal can easily cost the entire day’s wages ($123 MXN). In fact, the USD equivalent of Mexico’s daily minimum wage is around $5 USD; essentially the same price of the American worker’s meal for an entire day’s labor. No wonder immigration is such a notable occurrence. Since the Mexican worker and the U.S. worker live in close proximity to one another, yet we can see that one lives in copiousness while the other struggles…
