Open Source Image Processing Software

NOTE: the project has moved to https://scipy.org/scipylib/ --- go there to find latest versions. This sourceforge project contains only old historical versions of the software. SciPy is package of tools for science and engineering for Python. It includes modules for statistics, optimization, integration, linear algebra, Fourier transforms, signal and image processing, ODE solvers, and more.

The TESTIMAGES archive is a huge and free collection of sample images designed for analysis and quality assessment of different kinds of displays and image processing techniques. The archive includes more than 2 million images originally acquired and divided in three different categories: SAMPLING and SAMPLING_PATTERNS (aimed at testing resampling algorithms), COLOR (aimed at testing color rendering on different displays) and PATTERNS (aimed at testing the rendering of standard geometrical patterns). The purpose of this program is to teach a computer to classify plants via their leaves. You just need to input the image of a leaf(acquired from scanner or camera), then the computer can tell you what kind of plant it is.

LaueTools is an open-source project for white beam Laue x-ray microdiffraction data analysis including tools in image processing, peaks searching & indexing, crystal structure solving (orientation & strain) and data & grain mapping visualisation. The Camellia library is an open source and cross-platform image processing library, written in plain C. It includes a lot of speed-optimized imaging functions (filtering, morpho, labeling, motion detection, warping, color conversion, project/backproject)

ProStack - a platform for image processing and analysis. It implements various image processing methods as separate modules, that can be joined in a complex image processing scenario by use of a graphical user interface. Multiplatform and Open Source project for astronomical image processing

CVSharp (aka Computer Vision in C#) is a Computer Vision project. Until the present day just one part of the whole project was actually developed. It's called CVSharp Lab, an Image Processing Tool.

Fourier is a portable image processing and analysis library written in ANSI C. It implements operations such as color space conversions, noise removal, enhancement, morphology, edge detection, thresholding, segmentation, and visual feature extraction

A very basic library with image processing functions.

JIPL (Java Image Processing Library) is an attempt to provide an efficient way to load, filter, manipulate, and save images. The goal is to provide an intuitive and extensible library.

LuaCV is OpenCV library wrapper for Lua language. Main goal is to access fast image processing library to light-weight, non-type language. Thanks to CMake project is a much easier to compile it under many OS platforms which are supported by OpenCV. LuaCV is being developed at faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication of Brno University of Technology in Czech republic. Working with: Lua 5.2, OpenCV 2.2-2.4 LuaCV-0.2.0 (svn rev. 62) is last version compatible with Lua 5.1 but working only with OpenCV 2.2 and below.

MIPPY is a minimalistic DICOM image browser with built-in image processing modules. Its modular design means it can be extended with any number of user-created modules for image processing and analysis.

Malimpa stands for MAtlab Library for IMage Processing and Analysis. It provides functions for 2D/3D grascale/color image creation, filtering, or measurement. It requires, and complements Matlab Image Processing Toolbox. Important notice: the project is now hosted in GitHub, https://github.com/dlegland/matImage

A library analog to those included in Matlab without the need of external libraries; just right for embedded or static linking. MTL was used to build a 3d Scanner. MTL consists of pars B - Basic Functions, Matrices, Images, Hypermodels (3d Models and up) N - Numeric Functions ranging from linear regression over nonlinear optimization to singular-value computation I - Image filters and Image enhancement H - Hardware related (optional part), does require additional libraries and is only useful on certain hosts. G - Hyper-Model functions such as ray-plane intersections etc.
