Tabletop Version Planning

I am in the planning stages to create a Mercator Grid client that acts as a play aid for a real tabletop battlefield.

The idea is to provide people the ability to create large maps (4' x 4') with markers representing the units in play. Mercator Grid's new console based system would permit players to input their units' movements via voice or keyboard and maniupulate their actual game pieces on the physical map.... read more

Mercator Grid 0.3 Released

This release focuses on the look and feel of the game. You'll find that the game plays much better as the play field is much clearer and units are significantly easier to handle.

Overview:
-------------

* Larger Scale Map
* Rivers and Bridges
* Correct Ship Movement
* Anti-aliased Rivers/Roads
* Adjusted Unit Range

First, MG now has a finer tuned adjusted map scale. MG now uses a larger map scale which yields finer game play and high image quality even at magnification.
Unit movement is improved too as unit speeds are roughly equivalent to that of the real world at "speed factor 1." ... read more

Mercator Grid Released!

What would happen if you could play a real time strategy game who's playing field was a representation of the earth using actual GIS data? What would happen if you could plan your strategy and command your forces to capture (or defend) bridges, roads, and key areas just like the real world with an accuracy within 1km in real time?

That's the idea behind Mercator Grid. Mercator Grid is a Real time strategy simulation dedicated to achieving a balanced mix between realism and playability.
Mercator Grid is written in Java and based on the Game Environment for Command and Control Operations (GECCO) system. GECCO is designed to be a generic engine that permits developers to create simulations to meet their needs. It's certainly possible, for example, to create a game 500 years in the future based on Mars GIS information.... read more
