Ctalk is a compact object oriented language that works closely with C. That means you can use Ctalk for GUI, network, client-server, and systems programs as well as traditional object oriented simulations, with all of the advantages of a true object oriented language, like class and method inheritance, and rapid prototyping. Ctalk includes a just-in-time compiler, a compact run-time library, and a developing set of X widgets and OpenGL classes to create desktop and 3-D modeling apps. Written for use with GNU GCC and LLVM, Ctalk supports a variety of UNIX, Linux, and MacOS systems, the X Window System, and libraries like the GNU readline library, and the Xft Type1, FreeType and TrueType font libraries.

Project Samples

Ctalk's developing widget set includes a text editor pane and a file select dialog, as well as other useful desktop tools. Glpaperplanes shows how to use Ctalk with GLUT and OpenGL to provide animated simulations. Glpaperplanes is available in the Apps folder of the Files section. Here, glpaperplanes, built with the OS X GLUT framework and OpenGL libraries, is running on a Macintosh. The Ctalk Browser for Emacs can display prototypes, documentation, and source code. The package ctalk-browser-el is available in the Apps folder under the Files menu. The Timepieces package contains a variety of clocks for machines that support X Window System desktops. Part of the source code for analogclock.ca, which is included in the timepieces package. The messagebox demonstration program uses a X11LabelPane and a X11ButtonPane in its main window.
