Janice wants to spend a few weeks at the beach, and her friend Viola is telling her about this hut she knows that is for rent. It isn’t very fancy, but it’s affordable, and she can sleep at least two people. She could take a friend and they would be right on the beach.

They arrived a few weeks later and were disappointed in the shape of the hut. It’s a mess. It hadn’t been cleaned up or anything.

It was raining, and they looked out the window at the beach, taking in the roughness of the waves. They could see a butterfly attached to the window, and the storm was not a lovely sight. They hoped the storm would stop soon. They hoped that birds would come to roost on the railings in the morning, and more butterflies would show up on the windows where the first one had been.

****************

The Mr. Whippy truck was parked near the courthouse, and the birds flying around overhead were causing an awful mess from all the bird droppings.

Trish and Tommy were waiting in line for their turn when one of the birds dropped a mess directly on them. They were horrified and wanted to go home, but their mom promised them new outfits from a nearby store and would buy them their ice cream so they didn’t have to stand in line again. They were relieved and waited patiently for their mother to get them their ice cream.

Grandma Ruth watched her grandchild, Caroline, jumping in huge puddles caused by the current storms. She could see the child was having a wonderful time splashing around in the water. She would have to bathe her before he mother returned to pick her up for the day, but for now they were content as they were. She always kept extra clothes on hand for occasions such as this. She would never deny Caroline the chance to splash around in a puddle or something similar that would require a change of clothes and a bath. She loved to watch her take a bath, playing with her toys.

For the visually challenged reader, this image shows a canal where boats are parked and one boat is sailing on the water. On both sides of the canal, we see vehicles parked and rows of buildings on both sides as well.

“This is different from Venice. I never knew there were so many cities with canals. We should try to visit all of them eventually. Here you can go by car or by canal. I don’t think I would want to live here, though. I would get tired of going by boat everywhere, and that’s the only thing that makes it different.” Janet told her husband, Tim.

“I would agree with you, too, but I wouldn’t mind seeing all of them at least once. Let’s look them all up, decide which ones we want to visit first, and make up a list for our next several vacations.”

For the visually challenged reader, this image shows a beach as seen from a great height. Water of the sea is colored blue- green and people are relaxing by the beach.

************

Jackie and Joe stood at the rail on the boardwalk and looked at how far it was from where the water line was. It was a long walk, and they came with their two kids and all the equipment they needed to spend the day on the beach. The kids were little, so they came with diaper bags and two playpens to keep them confined so they didn’t run off.

They also had a cooler to keep their kid’s bottles cool and some cold drinks for them as well.

After thinking about it, they decided that Joe would walk down to the water line with the two playpens while Jackie waited with the kids. Once Joe took the cooler down, he would come back, and then they would each sling a diaper bag over their shoulder and carry a kid down there. They sure didn’t think this out too well. No more beach trips until the kids were much older, could walk down there themselves, and didn’t need all this equipment.

For the visually challenged reader, this image shows a car parked near the edge of a body of water. The door of the car is open. Behind the car is a small rise and we can see a huge spherical body/ moon rising behind that rise.

************

The sun was setting behind the hills, and Robbie and Bruce searched for Josie, who had taken off in the car in a snit. She was mad at Robbie, her boyfriend, and didn’t want to talk to him. After an hour, Robbie decided to look for her since she had taken his car and they were stranded there.

“Josie,” Robbie called. “Where are you? This isn’t funny anymore. It will be dark soon, and we need to get home.

Robbie and Bruce continue calling and notice a vehicle up ahead alongside the water. The door was open. What was Josie doing?

After checking the car for Josie, he dived into the water. He hit a body floating there. He pulled her out and checked for a pulse. There was one, so they gave her CPR. Sputtering, she came to. “Josie, what happened?”

There was a bee in the car, and I am allergic so I jumped out and ran, but tripped over a root and fell into the water. I guess I knocked myself out. I don’t believe the bee stung me, at least. I am sorry I took off like that. I panicked and could have killed myself. Thanks for coming for me.

I awoke with great confusion. I was thinking tomorrow was today and my gut gripped with fear as I thought my guest was coming today to exchange lessons on what we both excelled in.

That was the agreement that we had made. He would show me how to jump out of his small plane and I would show him how to ski. I was terrified to jump out of a plane. I wonder who would go first.

“What do you think about getting a boat for the bay where we fish?” Charlie asked Maureen.

“We can’t afford a boat, Charlie. Fishing off the pier is fine enough. You can get a group of buddies and charter a boat now and then for the big fish.

“Oh, Maureen, you are such a spoil sport. Why can’t I have any fun?”

“Charlie, I am serious. We can’t afford a boat, used or not.”The Jenkins always tell us how expensive it is and that they are sorry they got a boat. Oh, wait, you want to buy their boat, right? I see where this is going. Sorry, Charlie, but no way.”

Charlie stomped off to complain to his buddies about his wife’s refusal. None of the wives wanted the expense of a boat.

Does this picture inspire you to write something?

For the visually challenged reader, this image shows a young girl looking out the window of a train carriage. She is wearing headphones over her ears. The girl is around 5-6 years old.

************

Grace stared out the window of the train car she was riding in. Her mother didn’t know it, but Grace climbed off the train she was supposed to be in and entered the one on the next track. Grace was fascinated by a young boy on the other train and decided to follow him.

Grace’s mother, GraceLyn, was not paying attention to her. She was looking for something in her handbag. When she looked up, she was astonished to see Grace wasn’t in the window watching to wave goodbye like usual.

She became frantic and ran the train length, hoping Grace had just changed seats and was waiting for her in another window. She didn’t see her anywhere, and the train started moving.

GraceLyn couldn’t enter the train since it was moving, so she hurried to the station to see if she could find out if her daughter was on the train. She was told they had no way of telling. While she cried, the woman sympathized, but they could do nothing until the train got to the next station.

Just then, a call came in that a young girl who did not have the correct ticket for the B Train was found. She held a ticket for the A Train. This B Train was the train that Grace was not supposed to be in. The description fits, and the young mother was told to head to the next stop and pick up her daughter there.

GraceLyn was relieved and headed out to the next stop on the route. She immediately saw Grace and headed over to the woman holding her hand. After showing ID, she could take the young girl with her. She didn’t know what to say to her daughter. She had scared her quite a bit. She tried to explain to her that what she had done was wrong and that she must never do that again.
