Today, the European Patent Office and ETSI held their first high-level meeting at the EPO’s headquarters in Munich, marking a new chapter in a partnership that started two decades ago. During the meeting, EPO VP for Legal and International Affairs Christoph Ernst and ETSI Director-General Jan Ellsberger signed a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a 3-year Workplan.

The GSMA has announced its support for The AI Telco Troubleshooting Challenge which launched today in collaboration with ETSI, IEEE GenAINet, ITU and TM Forum. The new challenge calls on telecom operators, AI researchers and startups to submit advanced large language models (LLMs) that can perform root cause analysis (RCA) on telecoms network faults. Network faults remain one of the most persistent and costly challenges facing the telecoms industry, leading to significant financial losses each year.

Organised by ETSI with the support of the European Union, EFTA, TCCA-Critical Communications and UIC - International union of railways, these Plugtests™ play a key role in accelerating the global adoption of future railway communications. They enable stakeholders across the value chain to test their solutions against each other, ensuring interoperability when deploying FRMCS over 5G networks and guaranteeing interworking with the legacy GSM-R system.

The renewed leadership team will continue the work of accelerating ISAC pre‑standardisation efforts to facilitate 6G development and contribute to forthcoming specifications in key global standards, including 3GPP and IEEE 802.
