3 stars. This is a very old book and I love the portrait it gives of 1950s France, from the countryside to Paris to the tourist attractions, and just plain everyday life. Being bilingual, I can’t comment on how well it teaches French, but I did find it useful to help a struggling teenager in practising his reading, since there was enough plot and character interaction to keep him interested. He even found the story quite humorous at times.
Content: swearing; lots of scrapping between the kids; some lack of respect for the parents.
A bit of an old-fashioned, but rather readable introduction to reading in French. The Book is set out in small, progressively difficult chapters completely in french, with a mini-dictionary of all the words in the back and covers places that might be visited in the north of France, the sights of Paris and aspects of french life.
