release me from this tormenting slow burn. safe to say that James Alexander Anderson went to the school of Aaron Warner Pathetic Yearning Longing Lusting. Than man IS his brother in every word. crazy how they could be in a life or death situation and his thoughts are “so when is your birthday?” my boy is whipped, rightfully so. 🤏🏽

reading Aaron Warners POV once again was like coming home to my husband. he is the king of “i don’t do anything without my wife’s permission” cuz what do you mean he feels like he’s in the wrong place if she isn’t with him? “the precious few hours a day i have to myself i like to spend with my wife. i don't go out at night unless i'm with my wife. if ella isn't with me, i'm in the wrong place” you know what? HELL YEAH! 💓

James is the 7x7 = 49 to Aaron’s 9x9 = 81 what an iconic duo. and can we talk about the humor in this book? kenji saves the day once again. but not only that, put kenji, aaron, and james in a room and it’s so bro humor. it was giving frat boy energy anytime they communicated with one another and i was here for it. ‼️

This may be a YA book but James sure as hell ain’t! “ I want her naked in the moonlight. I want to lay her down under the stars. I want to feel the wind on my back when I make her scream” James i wasn’t familiar with your game. no dna test needed to prove he’s aaron’s brother.🤝

i feel like so much happened in this book and it ended right when shit was hitting the fan. like that final scene? ok costco. that scene in the diner with Rosabelle and James?!? someone sedate me. James is so passionate and whimsical. i feel like i’m being bathed in sunlight whenever he describes Rosabelle “she's so beautiful it's actually a little hard on my brain. the first time i saw her i glitched so hard i convinced myself she wasn't even human she looks like if a flower were a person. like if clouds were a person. like if a person was made of cake.” he is a man written by a woman. *sighs in agony*

i need kenji and nazeera to get their shit together or just give me an entire book of just them. also juliette and aaron will have a girl. aaron warner is meant to be a girl dad the same way the sun rises everyday. i am ready for dilf era aaron fucking warner‼️🤰🏻

thank you to this audiobook for entertaining me during my 3 hour car ride on the way to get my brother from jail

edit: ok I reread this again because the last time I read it, I was under quite traumatizing circumstances. That being said this book really uplifted my spirits after reading a lot of traumatizing books as a late. I love how Ali Hazelwood writes her men to be surprised when they find out the main character likes them. I’ll eat it up every time I don’t give a fuck.

my suicide note will begin with this author’s name istg. every page felt like torture. this book in its entirety was cruel and unusual punishment. how much can a soul bare? did i deserve this turmoil? who did i offend? 😩😭

that being said, everything was perfectly done. everything was beautifully executed. everything written was necessary. i don’t think I’ve been as religious as i was while reading this book, praying that these characters would be ok in the end. i mourn them daily and they aren’t even real.

so this picks off right where book 1 left over and i loved that we got 4 POVs in this one. sefa and marek ughh i love them so much. sefa and vaida…never thought id be rooting for this. and the friendship between marek and jeru?! im pleasantly surprised. even though this series is finished, i want more. i demand it actually. is there a fucking prequel in the works somewhere?

and just when i thought the world building was all said and done in book one, it expands. i repeat what i said in my other review: this is really just drama, tea, and gossip. the way i digested it didn’t feel like reading a textbook. it was woven into the plot so smoothly. i look at that and i think “wow that’s a talented author” ✍️

and as if i couldn’t think Arin of Nizahl couldn’t get more attractive, so he does. from doing a complete 180 on his views on magic. learning the real history and still coming out on top? my man is smart, calculating, intelligent, handsome, and very passionate. “all of me is written in her name” Arin did you know i’d start a war for you??

arin battling his cunt of a father was also the most savage thing i’ve ever witnessed. my man didn’t even have to lift a sword to a man that gives me “spiritually Israel vibes” like i was again thrown at a wall when arin said “The Jasad crown will belong to my wife, and my wife alone.” to “You would choose her over your own kingdom? Over your own family?”
"Yes. I choose her." HOW THATS WHAT IM FUCKING TALKING ABOUT 🤏🏽🤏🏽🤏🏽

Sylvia my god girl you kill me. you mean to tell me the jasad queen put the most control ridden man on his knees?? in front of everyone?? the same man that gave up everything to find her in those mountains. got him spitting poetry like “everything i have is her’s to command. what she wills, i will create. what she hates, i will destroy. i am the weapon of the malika and it’s her alone i pledge myself to.” someone SEDATE ME!!🔪

and i lowkey got sick of everyone with this self sacrificing attitude. god my heart actually hurts just thinking about it. i was edged beyond control. to the point that i’m like girl just killed everyone off at this point and spare me. but this book ended in the most perfect way possible. reading that last line felt like surviving 9/11 “welcome home suraira” kill me now actually

this last 100 pages was pure torture. the devil couldn’t reach me so i had to endure that. WRAP IT UP i beg of you. “one month” “two years “six years” “10 YEARS LATER” ?!? the physical pain i felt when i read that… this book is a prison. that epilogue was diabolical. “are they enemies to lovers?” worse… so much fucking worse.

i will never get over them. this book. everything in it and they way it made me feel. i genuinely wanna schedule my own lobotomy 🫩🫩🫩❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹
