A leading national insurance organization with a strong market presence in life insurance, annuities, and retirement solutions, backed by decades of stable performance, a diversified product portfolio, and a large, growing customer base. The company is recognized for its financial strength, disciplined risk management, and commitment to long‑term policyholder value. As part of continued expansion, the organization is seeking a highly experienced General Counsel to guide the legal and regulatory strategy for its Life & Annuities business.
Responsibilities
Serve as the primary legal advisor to executive leadership and the Board on all life and annuity matters.
Oversee compliance with state insurance laws, including product approvals, policy form filings, and regulatory reporting.
Manage interactions with state Departments of Insurance regarding product filings, actuarial documentation, and statutory requirements.
Lead legal review and negotiation of distribution agreements, reinsurance treaties, IMOs/FMOs, vendor contracts, and strategic partnerships.
Advise on product development, including life insurance and annuity contract forms, riders, disclosures, and suitability/Best Interest requirements.
Oversee litigation, complaints, market conduct exams, and regulatory inquiries.
Support corporate governance and enterprise risk management frameworks for life and annuity operations.
Build, lead, and develop the legal and compliance team supporting life, annuity, and retirement product lines.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
Active license to practice law in the United States.
Minimum 10 years of legal experience, with substantial experience in life insurance, annuities, and state regulatory compliance.
Strong understanding of life and annuity product structures, NAIC regulatory frameworks, Best Interest/suitability rules, and distribution oversight.
