Base pay range
$100,000.00/hr - $125,000.00/hr
The position of Senior Food Scientist – Ingredients Innovation is responsible for researching novel processing methods and plant-based ingredients for low-acid aseptic manufacturing. This includes, concept to launch – managing prototyping, improving manufacturing efficiencies, evaluating new raw materials and working on various research projects. The position requires a proactive, self-starter who is able to work independently with good decision-making skills while coordinating all information required to create and maintain the existing Steuben programs. This job also requires a team player with high standards of excellence and attention to detail.
Education/Prerequisites Requirements:
M.S. or Ph.D. in Food Science, Food Processing Technologies or Related Discipline
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in ingredients research at a food or beverage company
Strong knowledge & experience with analytical chemistry, ingredients processing research and enzymology
Plant based product formulation experience
Knowledge of plant-based proteins chemistry and extraction
High competencies in experimental design and statistics
Strong understanding of ingredients manufacturing processes
Excellent Planning & Organizing Skills
Ability to adapt to situations and responsibilities within an ever-growing business
Competencies in chromatography such as HPLC, GC/MS and protein analysis such as protein determination, SDS-PAGE, and amino acid characterization.
Good Understanding of Food Safety and GLP
Analytical, detailed oriented individual
Ability to work with minimum supervision
Equipment/Training Knowledge:
Experiences in working in food manufacturing facilities
Better Process Control School Certification or other related food processing certification/education
Strong computer program(s) knowledge
Working knowledge for standard lab equipment
Experience working within Food Formulation & Labeling Software
Work Specifications – Responsibilities:
Primary responsibility is to conduct research in: improving production efficiency in raw material processing plant, evaluating various different raw materials for novel ingredients manufacturing, and work along with other scientists in analyzing ingredient characteristics such as macro- and micro-nutrient in raw materials.
Additional responsible include working with Operations and Quality in evaluating root cause for product stability in terms of product formulation and processing.
Key stake holder to successfully manage his/her projects to completion
Attend plant trials as needed
Keep detailed accurate records
Create reports for R&D/Ownership as needed
Attend R&D and other key meetings as a technical support role
Work closely with Production to understand the equipment (processing, filling and blending) to help facilitate scale up of new and existing products
Help Facilitate improvements to resource infrastructure
Work in Excel, Word, PowerPoint
Schedule:
Monday – Friday
Extended schedule on major projects, as necessary
Availability by phone
Some travel required to attend trade shows and to support the business as needed
Salary Range: $100,000 - $125,000
