January 11th marked one of my favorite traditions of the year in Houston — the annual Chevron Houston Marathon.
I ran the aramco Half Marathon again this year, continuing something that began during the pandemic. I’m grateful to a great friend and mentor — and now a Chevron “corporate graduate,” as Barbara Burger styles herself — who welcomed me when I transferred back to Houston in 2020 and nudged me back into running, among many other efforts around town.
Over time, the Houston Half has become something more enduring for me: a reminder of the value of consistency — showing up month after month, year after year — and trusting progress (or sometimes just maintenance!) built over time.
This year, the miles weren’t just for me. I found myself running with a lot of people in mind: family, close friends, colleagues, and others who are part of a shared journey. That quiet sense of purpose has a way of carrying you forward when the course gets long.
The Marathon continues to be a truly world-class event, made possible by thousands of runners, volunteers, and spectators from across the Houston community and beyond. Through Chevron’s long-standing role as title sponsor, the Run for a Reason Charity Challenge has supported hundreds of local organizations — an impact brought to life each year by Chevron Houston employees, our fabulous Corporate Affairs team, and others who run, volunteer, and support from the sidelines.
I’m grateful to be part of it — as a runner, a Chevron employee, and a Houstonian — and thankful for the people who make these traditions meaningful year after year.
