2 cups all purpose flour 1 tbsp sugar  1 tbsp + 1 tsp baking powder  1/4 tsp baking soda 1 tsp salt 7 tbsp salted butter 1 cup buttermilk 1 caramelized onion 1 cup grated Gruvere 2 tbsp chives 1 egg  2 hours before u make the biscuits. slice an onion & cook over medium/low heat with 2-3 tablespoons of oil or butter. Stir every 5 mins until they have caramelized about 1 hour.  Preheat to 425F. In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Whisk.  Cut butter & add to flour mixture. Work the butter into flour until broken down.  Add caramelized onion, Gruvère & chives.   Pour in buttermilk & fold. Shape dough into a rectangle. Cut into 3rds. Stack the pieces on top each other then roll.  Roll dough into a 9x5 and cut into 6  squares. Egg wash tops. Bake 17-20 mins
