Have you ever wanted to be famous?
As a kid, I dreamed of being a famous actress, singer, dancer, and/or writer. By the time I hit my teens, I knew that was the last thing I wanted (though I still dreamed of being a well-known, but very reclusive author). I was very well aware that living in the spotlight would be far too much work for me.
Have you met any celebrities?
I’ve met quite a few over the years – some through conventions, some through parties I attended, and some just running into them casually.
One of my favorite times was when I attended a Sherlock Holmes society celebration in the Los Angeles area. My date was the head of the Non-Canonical Calabashes. We were supposed to be seated at the head table, but someone messed up the seating arrangements. To make matters worse, the venue did not set up enough tables for the attendees. While we were standing there waiting for the situation to be fixed, Vincent Price and his wife entered the hall. We explained the situation to them. He went over and demanded that a table be set up especially for us four at the back of the room. “If they don’t want us at the front of the room as was originally planned, we don’t want to be up there with them,” he said. We spent the next 2 or so hours talking food, recipes, life in Southern California, and, of course, Sherlock Holmes.
Has anyone ever asked you for your autograph?
No. I think that even if I were famous, that since I’m a rather nondescript person, no one would recognize me. Lol
Is there a celebrity that you wish to have met/meet?
I would have liked to have met Stan Lee, just to thank him. Another person I’d like to have met is Stephen Hawking. I know that I could never have kept up with his intellect, yet he had a reputation of knowing how to talk to everyone.
