Fallout 4 – Sometimes Gaming is Life and Creativity

Fallout 4 has become a comfort game for me. I finished one playthrough a couple of weeks ago. That playthrough took me a long time, because, honestly, I didn’t want to end the game. I finally decided to go with the Minutemen ending, which was quite satisfying, and made sense for the role I played with my character. He was basically a good guy, a Captain America, if you will.

I spent a lot of time with that character, learning the mechanics of the game, and spending a lot of time building settlements and dressing up and arming up my settlers. Each settlement had a theme, which was great fun playing with.

I’ve added two new playthroughs and am hoping that doesn’t crash out the game, entirely. I’ve heard that it can. Each new character has a different personality and goal in the game.

Sometimes, the game can be heartbreaking. You come upon scenes of what people were doing when the bombs dropped. Sometimes, though, you just have to stop and laugh. The game is known for a few glitches and odd things can happen, such as the following. The BOS (Brotherhood of Steel) was flying overhead in a vertibird. When it was shot down, I spotted this in the sky above the battleground:

Writer’s Workshop – Seven Sentences

I’m sleepy earlier tonight, than usual, after a long and busy day.

I started my day with a slightly longer than one-hour meeting on Zoom.

I pulled weeds in my side yard.

I cooked veggie fish and mashed potatoes for my lunch.

I played Fallout 4, exploring the Wasteland with a second character.

I made veggie burgers, with Japanese BBQ sauce and cheese, for my roommate and I, for dinner.

Now, I am done for the day.

Written for John’s The Sound of One Hand Typing’s Writer’s Workshop. I chose #2 – Write a post in exactly 7 sentences, since I’m too tired to think of anything creative, tonight.

A Simple Painting

I have not painted for a very long time, due to many reasons (Yep, looking at you, Stormagedden, the Dark Lady of All, as one of those reasons. lol). I, finally, grabbed a canvas, opened up my paints to see which ones are still viable.

I chose to do an easy project, to start, what I hope will be my painting journey, again. It’s far from perfect, but it was fun to do. I am considering adding a background to this, thought not sure what to do.

SoSC – Alarm

Yáʼátʼééh.

It’s past 10:30 PM and the alarm is going off in my head to rush over to Duolingo and do a quick Navajo lesson. I’m enjoying the challenge, yet feel as though I’m progressing very, very slowly. I progressed much quicker in my Spanish lessons. Though, I did have a previous start with Spanish. The first time I had lessons was in 3rd grade. Later, my family moved to California and I had to wait until 7th grade to start a foreign language class. The funny thing — they used the same book as we used in the 3rd grade in Michigan. “Hola Paco. ¿Qué tal? ¿Cómo está usted? ”

Before my internal/infernal alarm went off, my phone’s alarm alerted my to take my blood pressure medicine.

Another internal/infernal alarm went off in my head, warning me that I played Fallout 4 for far too long. I told that alarm where it could go. I needed a day to hide away from all the outside world’s nonsense, and today being a very blustery day, made it a perfect day to run about in a post-apocalyptic world. I’m playing a new character, and have found playing a sarcastic person a bit more challenging than I thought I would.

Unsettled Days

Yesterday and today have felt like a rollercoaster.

Yesterday started out fine. I woke up earlier than usual, giving me more time in the morning to prepare for my quarterly doctor visit. All my stats are good and the doc complemented me on the fact that I haven’t dyed my hair in a long time and it hasn’t turned gray. Quite the accomplishment at my age (72) and with my family history. (My dad turned gray at 13 or 14 years of age and my mom started graying in her 50s.)

After the doctor visit, I stopped at the library to pick up this month’s book club choice. Later, I learned from an online post that one of my cousins was going in for surgery today for a tumor found in his brain. The bad news included that he would have to go through radiation treatments, and even with all of that, they were only giving him another 15 months.

This morning, I did some weeding, while waiting to hear news regarding my cousin. It got very warm quite quickly, so I was only able to do some weeding for just under an hour. I spent the rest of the afternoon starting on Station Eleven (the book for book club), and playing Fallout 4. I’m sure for some, it may seem antithetical to get deeply involved with post-apocalyptic stories and video games, but I find they can be quite cathartic for me.

Late this afternoon, I learned my cousin came out of surgery just fine. They are now doing some lab testing, as they are not sure if the doctor is right about it being gliobastoma or an abscess. Either way, everyone is still very concerned, since his CT scan in March was clear.

A Tiny Light In the Overwhelming Darkness

This past week and a half has just been too much for me. I have had to isolate, mostly, to watch a few older Marvel movies, and binge through one of my favorite anime series, Black Butler, with a couple of friends, and to play lots of Fallout 4. Even so, my reservoir of strength and positivity is completely drained.

Even though the below meme does catch the gist of what happened today, it does not totally reflect the full picture, but I needed the humor.

With reference to the Ragtag Daily Prompt.

It’s not rational, but I am exhausted. I haven’t done anything significant today. I did fight a migraine-level headache for most the morning and afternoon, so I guess that counts for something significant.

Once the headache subsided enough to feel functional, I played some Fallout 4. I’m still struggling with figuring out how to do a few things in the game. Hopefully, I’ll figure it all out soon enough to play the game as a seasoned player, instead of a newbie.

Post inspired by Ragtag’s Daily Prompt – Rational.
