Fine as spider’s silk
The threads of this dream
Just a touch and they are gone
The shadow of a memory
In morning’s light
Spider’s Silk

Clinging to the world of sleep
Embrace of times gone by
When the bright confusing jigsaw
Of our life
Is returned to us complete

Diving deep into cool water
Clear as starlight no hidden depths
Just the simple pleasure of swimming
With the one I love
Sleep

Sweet relief of night
Warm embracing dark
Forget the business of the day
In favour of sleep
Let it’s tide wash me out
Let it’s forests lose me
Let it’s tales of long ago
Regale me, haunt me, fill me
With sharp, bright emotions
Then send me swimming from the depths
Striving to remember
That I own this body
Or it owns me
But until then –
Let me sleep
What I have lost

Deep the places of the earth
To which I take my shame
For who could replace you?
An ocean for our tears
Or a maze of tunnels and stairs
To get back
What I have lost

Every night, a different dream
Threads that bind up and make our waking world
The tall man seeks; the tall man will find you
No matter what dark room you shut yourself in
Father time comes a calling to lay you open
With forgotten emotion
Sharp as steel cooled in mother’s tears
A man cries on the steps of his old university
A girl stops by, concerned –
We’re all living out of time, he says
When old friends meet and reminisce
Book tickets to Magaluf
Two weeks of yesteryear and perhaps forget
We are no longer young

The sea, always so close
Join us, it whispers
Find your end, and your beginning
But still I race my race
Me against whomever
And check the foundations
Of these towers we build
Tall but fragile along the waterside
A holiday from life

Why is it always time to return
When the waves are highest?
There on the tip of the breaker
I feel close to something remarkable
Beyond the reach of sight or light
In a place, a holiday from life
Where mum and dad make a family still
With this childhood mind that has not moved on
Yet challenges me still
In the hours of night
