Blood out of the stoned…
So, I spent a great deal of time wading through 16 spreadsheets of royalties payments during work today. No wonder ebook authors go Indie. Some publishers get it so very wrong. Obvious things like tax treaties between countries and the correct rate of withholding money due to said tax treaty should be a no-brainer. And I owe you money? Are you stoned? I have sent back notes as to why the spreadsheets are wrong. I shouldn’t have to. It’s not my job to do their accounts.
Thinking of writing? For god sake sus out the publisher first. Check who has had trouble with them. Ask an Indie author. They'll tell you who sucks because most of the Indie have been burned and they're not scared to say it. Learn from people who have been there and done that.

Book slut…

As an experiment I put a bunch of Scarlet Harlot books on eBay. Harlot is chugging away steadily and that’s fine with me as I’m in the experimental stages of this gig. This morning I woke up to find an email from an eBay Nazi saying I have violated copyright on books I owned. Uh huh…I violated myself and yet I don’t feel dirty…that must make me a book slut.
Why I mention this is I have known eBay to move as slow as molasses when illegally sold books owned by other authors holding copyright are on eBay. It takes an avalanche of complaints to get them to do something. Yet this? Removing without investigating? Interesting. Wrong. Wankerdom.

Cold blooded murder...
Warning! This is an extremely violent video. Watch at your own risk. Why do I show it? Because a young woman was brutally killed just for being who she was. How does it affect us? We're human. We take for granted the freedom we have to be what we want to be – to think what we want to think. Other women are not so lucky. They are called adulterer or whore on suspect evidence. They are jailed, beaten or killed. The animals that stone or beat or kill these women are criminals. The men in this video are not human. They are a pack of rabid dogs bastardizing their religion in the name of keeping women under control. Yes, this video is horrifying. Truth is rarely pretty. Think how lucky you are. Say a prayer for this woman. At least she is at peace.

Cold blooded murder….
The girl's body was found in a sitting position with her hands tied, in a two-metre hole dug under a chicken pen outside her home in Turkey.
http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/-/mp/6767673/girl-buried-alive-for-befriending-boys/
I read this and was horrified and saddened and really bloody angry. When are the men in these countries, who are supposedly in their own tiny minds believing they are upholding some religious doctrine, going to be punished for cold blooded murder? That’s what it is. No angel or god or goddess or whoever you believe in can justify this. There is no honour in this. This is premeditated murder and I don’t doubt for a second the killers will cite Allah or their left testicle or their failure to get an erection as the reason.
I have the Koran at home. I’ve read it. Correct. I’m an atheist but I like to know about stuff. Maybe I have a different copy of the Koran but I don’t recall killing women because you could was one of the passages in there.
You know for men who take such murderous, draconian steps to bring women into line and under the thumb I have to say their eye for an eye way of thinking should apply to their own actions.
Atrocities against women affect all women. Just because someone is in another country to you or I doesn’t mean we can shrug our shoulders and be glad it’s not us. I’ve said it before and I will say it again – what effects one woman effects us all.
"According to our findings, the girl - who had no bruises on her body and no sign of narcotics or poison in her blood - was alive and fully conscious when she was buried."
The girl's father and grandfather have been arrested and jailed pending trial over her killing.
The father reportedly said in his testimony that the family was unhappy she had male friends.
I’m just so very angry and sad about this. What this poor girl suffered….

He said what???
A colleague in another office emailed me today and mentioned something that me so mad I could not let go what she said. She was very upset. Why? A male had made a totally inappropriate, obscene comment to her in relation to another woman. The comment made her so uncomfortable that she was worried about seeing or speaking to him again. This is a harassment and completely unacceptable.
She told no one but me. Some women never refer acts like this on to management due to fear. I've seen it before. They would rather avoid the person in question or live with the discomfort. That is so wrong. What has it got to do with me hearing it second hand? If something gets said to one woman that makes her uncomfortable or intimidated then that’s one woman too many. I believe women should look after each other in the workplace. Some men are just plain stupid and need to be reminded of their manners and their responsibilities when it comes to others. I don't doubt this man thought he was being funny but as we all know what is funny to you or I may be offensive to another.
I'll admit I sat and seethed at my desk for awhile. Then I emailed a wise, calm friend and said 'stop me from going over the edge if I am overreacting.' She rang me. She was also appalled and no, I wasn't getting worked up for no reason. What did I do? As the first response, I wrote the man in question an email. Yeah, I could have taken it to management in a heart beat but I wanted to give him a chance to understand what he had done. The email explained what I had been told, how I did not ever want to see a female colleague upset or uncomfortable and that his language was extremely inappropriate and that he needs to think about his audience before he speaks. I got no response. I expected none. What can you use as a defence? And yeah, I'll be watching what happens next.
If you are ever in a situation where you are placed in personal discomfort by another and you are scared to speak up - confide in a colleague because I doubt very much they will let in sit. Everyone has the right to a safe workplace free of harassment. Do not let anyone have the power to make you uncomfortable. You are worth so much more than that.

Oppression…
The new final draft of the legislation also grants guardianship of children exclusively to their fathers and grandfathers, and requires women to gain permission from their husbands to work.
''It also effectively allows a rapist to avoid prosecution by paying 'blood money' to a girl who was injured when he raped her,'' the US charity Human Rights Watch said.
http://www.theage.com.au/world/barbaric-laws-reverse-afghan-womens-rights-20090815-elqj.html
I don’t doubt these ‘law makers’ were quiet as they slipped this law in being. It is wrong and disgusting and barbaric. To me, it’s effectively saying that women have no rights whatsoever when it comes to sex and their own bodies. Women are literally screwed by these laws. You’re not in the mood for sex? ‘Got a headache? Too bad. He wants it. You have to. As a woman you have no rights.
Just think for one moment if you as a woman were not ‘allowed’ to go outside the house. That means no shopping, no work, no meeting friends, no pursuing hobbies and no furthering your education. You are under the control of a man. Basically what is between your legs defines your life. I cannot even fathom that. It smacks at every fundamental human right.
What if you had a smart, talented daughter growing up in that atmosphere? What if she wanted to further her education but wasn’t allowed? What if she wanted more? You have no rights over her because as a woman you are not her guardian. Both you and she must remain in your place because that’s the law.
And a rapist paying ‘blood money’ and escaping punishment? We would be in an uproar if this happened in our countries. It’s sick and demeaning towards women.
For all his fine words, Afghanistan leader Hamid Karzai is no better than the mob he replaced. I believe he is more interested in dressing well and appeasing men than equal rights. A true leader leads all his people not just dictates to the minority to appease others.
This makes me damned angry. I feel helpless that I cannot help these women. I want to get on a plane and kick the arse of these dickheads. We absolutely take our freedom for granted. We are incredibly lucky we don’t have nitwits passing archaic laws due to gender. Imagine being a chattel? A baby making machine? How long would any of us last? Not long I’d reckon. What strength these women in Afghanistan, and other similar countries, must have to endure all this bullshit without giving up hope.

Just plain wrong...
He also said the accused stepfather would not be expelled from the church. Although the man allegedly committed "a heinous crime ... the abortion - the elimination of an innocent life - was more serious".
http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/-/newshome/5375029
OMG…this is a nine year old girl who could have died giving birth to these twins and all this church can say is she should have taken her chances that she or the babies would have lived. And what about her innocence? And why wasn’t the rapist – a criminal - expelled from the church? Absolute frigging disgusting. Men in frocks making the rules when they have no concept of the real world? Condemning a nine year old for having another chance at life? For a mother to want more for daughter? For doctors to care? Great little world they’ve got going there. You know I’m not religious but my understanding of faith and humanity is somewhat different to this skewed version. Rape is rape and no matter what any church or any state says it’s never going to change nor can it ever be acceptable and pedophiles should be shot. Good on the mother. She has more sense and strength of character than any do-gooder who can quote a passage in a book and to validate hypocrisy. It’s just disgusting what some people think they can justify. It just makes me so angry and sad that this child is denied her faith and innocence and being punished for being helpless.

Just so wrong....
A 13-year-old girl who said she had been raped was stoned to death in Somalia after being accused of adultery by Islamic militants, a human rights group says.
Dozens of men stoned Aisha Ibrahim Duhulow to death October 27 in a stadium packed with 1,000 spectators in the southern port city of Kismayo, Amnesty International and Somali media reported, citing witnesses. The Islamic militia in charge of Kismayo had accused her of adultery after she reported that three men had raped her, the rights group said.
http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/-/world/5117013
This is beyond sad and all the petty considerations that so consume our own world seem just that. All this was done in the name of someone’s skewed interpretation of religion. It’s just so wrong and so sad and it makes me as mad as hell that women in some countries are treated like they are nothing…that their lives are forfeit because of gender based inequality…and I feel useless because I have no idea how to help.
