{Press} Lonny Mag / TRAD HOME Features Tilton Fenwick

Exciting News.... but first... for it to all make sense, story time....

Before Anders Ruff, I was a commissioned artist (Posh Papier was my company). I loved my work and had an amazing experience. Being a commissioned artist opened up the doors to some awesome opportunities.

Suysel Cunningham, an interior designer (and now friend) in NYC, found me on etsy. I had a shop but only a few items in it because of the largely custom nature of the work. Suysel bought a piece from my shop and then commissioned me to design several pieces. One of the pieces was for her upstate NY home.

Well, one of my favorite pieces that I designed was "Big Bang" for Suysel's upstate NY home.

Suysel dePedro Cunningham and Anne Maxwell Foster are the owners of Tilton Fenwick, and are an incredible talented interior designing duo.

Recently they were chosen to be featured in TRAD HOME magazine as "20 New Traditional Designers to Watch". HUGE accomplishment.

The magazine did a photo shoot of Suysel's upstate NY home and WOW, it is gorgeous.
Check out Trad Home magazine (pages 160 is where it begins)

The piece of artwork that I mentioned designing, "Big Bang", is featured in the article and I couldn't be more thrilled to have been mentioned!
Here it is, hanging over Suysel's beautiful couch!

There are SO many other details to share, but you need to check out the magazine to see the full spread.

I feel so lucky to have met Suysel. This past January, I met her up in NYC and helped with her daughter's 4th birthday. I love that I get to work with her on everything from invitations and parties to big pieces of artwork!
Suysel is such a thoughtful, talented and wonderful person.

Working with Suysel ended up leading to me creating a piece for her friend, Ashley Whittaker, that ended up being featured in House Beautiful. I am so thankful.

Suysel and Anne have a great thing going. I LOVE their style and constantly am inspired by their work. Check out Tilton Fenwick online and on facebook. You will LOVE these talented ladies and their style.

Congrats, Anne and Suysel!
"Big Bang" now has an even more special place in my heart ;-)

(PS. Check out their logo below... Gorgeous, right? Read the Trad Home article and see where they used their logo in the home. So chic!)

{Anders Ruff Parties} Rainbow Arts and Crafts Party

Our own fabulous Caryn Johnson planned a super fun party for her daughter's birthday party. Elyse was turning 6 and loves rainbows and painting/arts and crafts. Caryn decided she wanted to have a rainbow painting party for Elyse.

When she told me the theme, I jumped on board to design something fresh and unique. I love bright colors (as does Adria), and we knew this would fit right in the shop, too!

The party was held at Art Space Studio, a local pottery and painting studio. I love the space because it is fresh/clean and modern with an "open" feel to it. (A lot of those places feel like your grandma's basement - icky... not this one!)

The party was held in a private room and so there had to be a dessert table, of course! Caryn and I worked on prepping the layout at home the week before and then it was a breeze to set it up once we got to the space on the day of the party.

We used most of the items included in the new Rainbow Arts and Crafts printable collection that is now in our shop. Can't wait to share more....

Caryn hung the banner from the backdrop. Since the table was not huge, she opted for a smaller banner that just said "Elyse is six". I had found this fabric at Ikea a long time ago and it matched the set perfectly!

Have you seen this wrapping paper (on the boxes) at Target? Caryn found it before we started designing the paper graphic collection and we decided to use the exact colors and similar patterns for the collection.

Mini chocolate bars were wrapped with fun printable wrappers that said different colors and reflected that color on the graphic.

This was one of my favorite elements at the party - The cupcake presentation.
I had leftover paint pallettes from my son's party a couple years ago and so we decided to use them as pallettes for the cupcakes!

The kids got to paint their own cupcake with rainbow colored candies.
We used printable cupcake toppers for the fun rainbow cupcakes (when the kids bit into the cupcake, the cake was layers of rainbow colors). Of course, the "cloud" icing was needed on top of the rainbow.

The kids loved decorating/painting their cupcakes - and the palettes made it even more fun for display.

The dessert table also had various candies that the kids could fill their treat bags with at the end. Printable color labels were placed on the vessels with colored candies. (arranged like a rainbow, of course!)

Another shot of the cute cupcakes (Caryn's mom made the rainbow cupcakes!)

Caryn bought mini water bottles and refilled them with red, yellow and blue Gatorade and labeled the bottles with our printable drink wrap. The kids went ape over it!

The birthday girl had her own special cake that Caryn made for her. (Rainbow cake, again!)
We displayed cute rainbow colored lollipops on the dessert table with coordinating printable sticker labels.

The favors were boxes of crayons (wrapped with a printable crayon wrapper), and sets of paint for the kids.

We found these rainbow colored twisty straws at the dollar store and snatched them up because all kids LOVE those, right. They made cute centerpieces, too!
Here is a shot (dark photography, sorry!) of the door to the party - printable party sign alerted the children where to go for Elyse's party.

One of my favorite things - wrapping paper. The wrapping paper that Caryn bought at Target was perfect to dress up the neutral tables that were in the space. We ran a runner down the table and then a smaller runner of the contrasting paper pattern. It looked really nice in there!

Here is the birthday girl... she was so happy!

Here is Caryn with Elyse and Lauren - such beautiful girls!

Here are some shots of the kids having fun....

Cake time!

Here is what the rainbow cake turned out like. Elyse was so surprised when she saw what was inside!

Elyse's little sister, Lauren, posing in front of the dessert table....

Here is a shot of Elyse and my little Jeffrey. Jeffrey said to me - "Mommy, I want to have a party just like that for my birthday and do everything that we did exactly." ;-)

The cupcake decorating was a success....

This theme is perfect for any time of year! I loved helping with this party - so many easy ways to make it all "come together!"

I hope to see some client parties using our printable collection, soon!

The printable collection includes tons of designs to make your party perfectly coordinated and cute!
Customized invitation designs are also available in the shop.

{Sneak Peek} Rainbow Arts/Painting Party

Our fabulous design editor, Caryn, is having her daughter's 6th birthday party tomorrow at an awesome ceramics painting studio. Art Space Studio.... So cool.

Elyse LOVES rainbows and painting, so Caryn wanted to have a Rainbow Painting party... perfect!

We designed a complete printable design collection for her party and are now offering it in our shop! Here is the coordinating invitation design.....

Can't wait to share more details!

PS. On another note - Adria and I are leaving for NYC for the weekend to attend a fabulous client's party for her husband's 50th (Anders Ruff did all the graphic work) - SO excited. We were planning on posting our Vintage collection photoshoot on the blog before we left, but not sure that will happen until early next week!

{Straight From The Studio} Jeffrey's 4th Birthday - A "Mommy and Me Arts and Crafts Party"

This is probably going to be the longest post that anyone has ever posted because I am obsessed with parties and so there are loads of details to document here, if you want the full effect. I am behind... so this is from June 09.

I just have to share this party because its such a fun theme. Girls and boys love it and there are so many creative ways to tie in logos/favor tags, etc! www.andersruff.etsy.com can customize anything you want to help tie your party together as we show in our example here!

It all started with the deal I found on crayons last fall. I don't ever remember being able to get a box of crayons for $0.33? Walmart apparently has! I decided at that deal that Jeffrey's next party (mind you, it was 9 months before his party that I bought these crayons) was going to be an arts and crafts party. I mean, why not? I love art, he does too (or he pretends to!). Plus, what an amazing favor this will be - I could already envision it - a paint can full of art supplies for each child with their name personalized on it. Perfect. That $0.33 box of crayons was just the start to the favor. Over the next 7 months, I found watercolors ($1.99-CRAYOLA, too!), stickers ($0.50), glue sticks ($0.50) to stuff in the most adorable cans (Thanks, Kristin - she found these for me at Target for $0.70 each)!

Can you already tell how I plan parties? I work backwards. I find the perfect favor and work backwards. Plan backwards. It has panned out for me this far, so I'll stick with my method.

Anyhow, lets share this event the right way - invitation first. My parents are interior designers and with my love of paper came a love of paint chip charts. I loved fanning out all the beautiful colors and imagining painting a room each of the colors in the chart. That was it - This "Mommy and Me Arts and Crafts party" just HAD to have a paint chip chart invitation.

On our ETSY site, we have a paint chip invitation. If you are interested in multiple pages that you can link together with a brad like the on I did, we can do that, too!

Here it was:

So that was the beginning impression - the invitation.

Then we have the decorations. Most you will see throughout this post in other photos, but a few of note are the "Happy Birthday" sign and the artist easel as you walk in the door.

The "Happy Birthday" sign was made of, you guessed it, paint chips. I hung them from a string of raffia with little wooden clothes pins.

The "Yellow" station was the food - pizza, fruit cups and veggie tray.

Next we have the party.

I invited like 20 kids and just KNEW throwing 20 four year olds into a mix of 3 crafts wasn't going to be easy. So, I organized the kids into groups. When they arrived, they received a nametag that had the order in which they would conquer each of 3 tables with crafts. Orange table, Red table and Green table.

I found really fun clear paint cans and filled them with the coordinating color candy and had balloons strung to them as well to designate the table color.

Orange Table: (Outside under a tent) - Decorating T-Shirts with fun foam stamps, puff paint, brushes, sponges, etc.

Green Table: (Inside) Decorate a party hat - We had foam visors and foam stickers (letters, dinosaurs, geometric shapes, etc) for the kids to personalize their visors. We had every color visor you could imagine. (Age appropriate, remember... if they were older I would have had them sew and bead their own hats hah!)

Red Table: This was where J thought I was crossing the line. Bead a bracelet for mommy. Ok, I was desperate for something that Jeffrey LIKED to do, and that helped build their fine motor skills, too! (and something that wasn't messy since this would be in my dining room, for crying out loud) So yes, a little girly, but the moms liked their bracelets (I think).

Now for the sweetest part.... no pun intended. The Goodies!

I baked the sugar cookies (my mom's best recipe ever!) in the shape of artist palettes and paint brushes. I am pretty proud of the fact that I even MADE the cookie cutters. I was fed up with looking for a palette and brush so I made them out of bending tin from a lasagna pan! Worked like a charm!

Then I made the cake (Dr. Otekers organic cake mix... Earth Fare - its the BEST cake mix ever! A few simple ingredients, no hydrogenated oils/HFCS/etc) and plopped a real paint brush on top.

The Favors are always fun. I gave each kid one of the previously mentioned creations along w/ a cello bag full of the fun palette cookies. All wrapped in clear cello and tied w/ raffia, of course!

Personalized LOGOS for the paint cans - we can do those! Just ask!

...and you can see how happy the birthday boy was! (on his Jeep he got from Grandma and Grandpa)
