Retro Glam

Good morning!  I have a retro glam card to share with you today! It uses a fun image from the Girlfriend's Creative Scraps collection, by Crafty Secrets.  I dolled it up a bit  by using a doily that peeks out from underneath, a couple of red roses, ribbon, and a few rhinestones.

I love that making a card takes so little time, because the image itself is so cute!

Cort is slowly healing, but definitely feeling more like herself these days.  She requested that she "model."  So I dolled her up and shot a few pictures of her.
Here is one of her "Glamour Girl" shots!

Why I've Been Absent...

Proms, graduations, after school activities, retirement parties.....just a few of the reasons why I have been so quiet on my blog lately.
This weekend was Cortney's prom and it was also her birthday.
Her best friend...

And of course her "boyfriend."  He was trying to sneak a little hand holding!
Love that devilish smile!

Success! ;)

Kyle's prom is coming up...along with his awards ceremony and graduation.
Busy, busy, busy.
But life ebbs and flows....and it will eventually slow down.
Until then, enjoy the ride.

Easter Bunny and a Hot Air Balloon?

So maybe this is how the Easter Bunny delivers all of those eggs? ;)
Could this image from Crafty Secret's Digital Bunny Hop set be any cuter? I colored it in with my Inktense pencils and then cut using the Spellbinder's pierced rectangle die. I matted the image over a vellum envelope. The background paper is also from Crafty Secrets and is part of the Vintage Patterns collection.  I swiped the edges with a bit of white paint.
I added a cluster of flowers, ribbons, deckled eggs, string, and lace. The large orange flower is a sticker from Martha Stewart.  I've been a bit addicted to them lately. ;)
Cortney's modeling journey is continuing to thrive, I am very blessed to say!
She was recently asked to be on the spring cover of Model Source Magazine.
She was also featured on the blog and Facebook page of Handicap This!
I also got an e-mail from an agent of a famous star stating that my original e-mail was forwarded to her.  I am crossing every body part I can in hopes that something big comes of it!
She was bored on Sunday and asked to model.  So her and I spent the afternoon taking pictures. I love this time with her...it definitely has become one of our favorite mom and daughter activities! These are just a couple of the shots I got of her.
Unfortunately, today she is headed to the hospital for Botox shots in her legs.
 Boo.
Because of her CP, her muscles tend to get very tight and spastic.  The Botox should help relax those muscles.  The stinky part is that she has to sit in a wheelchair that accommodates the knee immobilizers and the wedge.  It will be a bit cumbersome and probably irritate her a bit, but it will hopefully help her move her legs better!
So please wish us luck!
And one last thing.....if you would like to follow Cortney's FB page, she would love it! I would love it too!  Just click HERE!
Have a great day my friends!

Chicago Special Parent Magazine!

I know many of you follow me on Facebook, but in case you don't, I wanted to share something fairly exciting!  (At least to me!) ;)
Cort had an amazing opportunity to be the first teen to grace the cover of Chicago Special Parent magazine.

Even our dog, Myla got in the photo!

Babies and Valentines.....

Good morning! I am home once again with a sick girly.  This has been such a bad winter for colds.  She just got over pneumonia over the holiday and now it has hit her once again.  I am hoping this time it is simply just a cold....nothing more.
I try to keep baby cards on hand, so I decided to once again use the adorable set from Crafty Secrets called, Bedtime Kids!  I printed the lambs in two sizes and gave them a bit of color with Copic markers.  I rubbed their bodies with a bit of glossy accents and sprinkled them with white flock.

I also added Flower Soft around their necks.  I added a bit of seam binding, pink string, a clear flower, and a few pearls for the center.  The background was cut using Gold Ovals One die from    Spellbinders.  I did a bit of airbrushing in the background with my Copics.

Cortney and I had a Valentine shoot last weekend and here were a couple of pictures from it.  I am thinking that pink is her color!  I think this may be the color we look for in a prom dress.

Cortney would be thrilled if you followed her journey on her FB page.  :)

Time to take care of the sickies....
Have a wonderful (and hopefully germ-free day!)

Photography....

This past weekend I had my camera in tow everywhere we went. Cortney had a professional shoot with a Chicago photographer, Jeff from Rebirth Photo. I took pictures of him taking pictures of Cort. Totally makes sense right? We had done the photo shoot at Lincoln Park Zoo. I hadn't been there for years, and I have to say it is a truly beautiful zoo. I seriously had my camera in front of my face the entire time. This lion...amazing right? We walked the Lincoln Park area and I took a few photos of the historic Brownstones. Brian snapped a quick photo of me on our walk. We went to a trendy restaurant on Halsted street called, Summer House. The food was amazing!

Cortney had received a gorgeous one of a kind coat from a sweet lady, Ellen. She is owner of Kaleidoscope Wear. She makes each one of a kind coat with so much love and thought to detail. I loved the coat so much that I am getting one too! So I guess when mine is done, we may have to do a mother daughter session! ;)
It is almost time for Halloween....so of course I couldn't pass up the opportunity to dress up my pups! They are always willing models for the crazy lady with the camera!  My husband told me he was disappointed in the photos I took.  He stated that no one is going to know what they are dressed as.  Maybe he is right....but I am hoping with the stripes and little pom poms that people will figure it out! ;)  Maybe I will have to take a few photos from behind.

We went apple picking yesterday....but I was too tired to upload and edit the photos. So those will be coming at a later date. So this is why I have nothing crafty to share. I've been spending my time on my photography skills. Time with my family. Creating memories. My youngest is going to college in less than a year. I need to enjoy these days...they are fleeting. Thank you for humoring me.....and letting me share other passions in my life! HAve a great day!

Watercolors and Angels....

Good morning to you my friends! I have been a bit neglectful of my crafting and this little blog of mine. Since starting school I have been trying to settle into some sort of a routine. It hasn't been easy.  ;)  So here and there I have been managing to squeeze in random bits of time.

I adore this image from Crafty Secrets.  It is their Rose stamp and it was embossed in white on watercolor paper.
I water colored it using my Inktense Pencils.  I continued the water color look on the back panel which I randomly added pinks, oranges, and yellow to.  I spritzed it with water several times to help move the color.  I adhered everything using dimensional foam squares by Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L.  I added a sentiment, ribbon, sequins, and a couple of rhinestones to finish it off.
When Cortney came home from her RunwayLOUD experience I wanted to commemorate her beautiful dress and wings.  I decided to do a little photo shoot. I created a thank you card for all of the people that made her dream happen
This one is my favorite.
Love her.
I am off today with my dolly.  She is sick with a double ear infection and the start of pneumonia.
I am so glad I took her to the doctor yesterday.
Meds, extra sleep, and some TLC should do the trick!
Have a great day friends!

Meeting a Celebrity and a Pumpkin too!

Life hasn't slowed down since we've come back from Branson.  It has been one exciting adventure after another!  I know at some point we will wake up from this dream we've been in, but for now we are enjoying the ride!  But before I go into that, I do have a crafty project to share with you.
I created this 3D pumpkin for the Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L blog today.  I have a full step by step tutorial over there on how I created this fall little beauty!
Totally dusted off those ole' microbeads for this project!
The week we got back from Branson, I got a call from a friend who runs an organization called, "I am Who I am."  It is run by Holly Simon and it is all about building love and acceptance for our differently abled kids.  She was able to connect with Jennifer Nettles from Sugarland to help spread her message.
Cortney and I were invited to come along.....seriously? Pinch me!
Kimberly Caldwell, Jennifer Nettles.....who is next? ;)
She is such a sweet down to earth person....and she had our kids cracking up!
Loved getting the chance to meet and photograph her that night!
I am doing a bit more photography too.  I have my first newborn session tonight.  I can't wait to meet this precious little baby girl!
Have a great day my friends!

Absolutely Amazing....

Many of you who follow me on Facebook have already seen many of Cortney's Runway LOUD pictures.
But you may not know the story behind the scenes.
Let me share a bit.....
For the longest time Cortney's life was a struggle.
People stared, gawked, and shared their ignorance on more than one occasion.
This mama fought for healthcare, disagreed with doctors, teachers, and IEP's.
I was told over and over how severe my daughter was.
How "low" she was.
Seeing the numbers year after year was devastating.
And yet, I continued to fight, adapt, and expose Cort to as many things as possible.
Who else would take their kid hiking in the mountains of Tenessee in a wheelchair? ;)
My family and friends thought I was nuts for pursuing such a crazy, crazy dream.
There were many naysayers.
They often reminded me that Cort couldn't "pose" like a typical teen.
They reminded me that she was in a wheelchair.
And yet, she was given the opportunity to "walk" the runway with models. "Real" models, who were kind to Cortney and showered her with love and attention. Everyone involved in the show was so incredibly kind to her.
I can't begin to describe the feeling her dad  and I had when Cort went out on stage.
The audience jumped to their feet, clapping, cheering, videoing, and taking pictures.
Of Cortney.
Our daughter.
The one that people wrote off 19 years ago.
It took everything in my power not to cry from sheer happiness at this magical moment.
So instead I smiled.
And smiled.
And clapped for this angel that was given to us.
She has touched people's lives.
I can't help but think that maybe she has helped to change a few perspectives on having a disability, no matter how "severe."
I am glad I didn't listen to other people.
I am glad I have been able to create opportunities for her.
I hope this doesn't end her journey, but that it is only the beginning.
Cortney's story was shared in the Chicago Southtown if you would like to view the article.

Thank you for letting me share and bombard you with pictures of my girl!
Have a great day friends!

Flurry of Activity!

I've decided that I must be crazy.
Certifiable.
I am 2 weeks out from school, heading to Branson, MO, and have one million and one things to do.
So what do I do?  Drive 3 hours to Indiana yesterday with Cort for a photo shoot.
As if I didn't have enough going on in my life! LOL!
I will share pictures later this week. ;)

First, let me share a card I made using Crafty Secret's Love and Support set.  I printed it on cream card stock and colored it with my Prisma colored pencils.
The polka dot paper is a digital paper available from Crafty Secrets as well. It is part of the Vintage Valentine kit.  I used various Spellbinder's dies to matte the image.  The flower was cut from my Silhouette and was saved from a previous project.  I added ribbon, string, book paper leaves, and a couple of stick pins.
Two weeks ago a very sweet gal, Karie took pictures of Cortney at a local wildlife refuge.
She was extremely patient and kind to Cort and was able to capture some great shots of her.
She is located here in Illinois and her business name is, Smile Through the Rain Photography.
You can find her HERE. Feel free to "like" her page.  I know she would appreciate it. :)
I have to get my head focused on school today.
My room has to be ready before we head out to Branson.
No pressure.  ;)
So that's where you will find me today.
Knee deep in books, pencils, and teacher's manuals.
Have a great day!
