[INFO] TVXQ 4th album MIROTIC through the half-million mark

TVXQ 4th album MIROTIC through the half-million mark
Star News Article January 8, 2009 08:52

[MTStarNews] The Youth Protection Committee classified TVXQ's 4th abum MIROTIC as harmful for the youth, but 100 days after the said album was released it has already reached 500,000 sales.

On the 8th, TVXQ's agency SMEntertainment said, "Since TVXQ's MIROTIC album was released September 26 last year until January 6 it has been sold online 167,697 copies, from off-line 335,140 copies amounting to after 103 days a total of 502,837 copies" they revealed.

This 2008 (the MIROTIC) album is among the all-time record-high sold. Not since Kim Gu Mo's 2003 8th album (Hestory) of 520,000copies has there ever been another artist that sold over 500,000.

TVXQ's album November last year was branded as having harmful lyrics by the Youth Protection Committee, but as if to mock the decision, album sales are increasing more and the phenomenon finally led to the breakthrough of the half a million mark.

Meanwhile, TVXQ is scheduled to have the 3-day (February 20-22), "TVXQ THE 3rd ASIA TOUR CONCERT-MIROTIC" at the Seoul Olympic Gymnastics Stadium.

Thats TVXQ for you -- breaking down culture barriers one fan at a time!

"Dong Bang Shin Ki" is topping the Japanese foreign sales charts with their Korean releases, and "Tohoshinki" is topping the Korean foreign sales charts with Japanese releases.

[NEWS] Japanese Newspaper "Yomiuri" Sells Out After Printing TVXQ Special

"TVXQ's popularity in Japan is not to be blocked"

Japan's daily newspaper "Yomiuri" printed a special interview with TVXQ and ended up selling out extremely quickly. This has become much talked about.

In their Pop Style Section on the 17th, "Yomiuri" had 'Facing the World, Five Not-So-Ordinary People' as their topic, and used two spreads to report on TVXQ's story before debut and their success story in Japan.

TVXQ's fans even called to order in order to get their hands on this issue of the newspaper. Because of the high demand, they started becoming out-of-stock, a miraculous sight.

On the 18th, through a member of their forum, "Yomiuri" announced the good reception and sales of their issue with TVXQ on the 17th. Those involved with this issue, through the member of the forum, said, "Readers, we thank you for all the orders for our issue with TVXQ's special on the 17th. Our company wishes to have enough copies to satisfy everyone's orders, but as of now we are out of stock. Please forgive us for not being able to satisfy everyone's orders."

A newspaper selling out because of the printing of a Top Star interview, no matter which country it happens in, is a first in history.

4 time Oricon Weekly number one spot winner TVXQ will perform for their first time at NHK's Red/White Concert on the 31st. Also, they will also appear on the TBS New Year's Special Music program "CDTV SP Premiere Live" to be broadcasted on the same day. Now, we can really feel their high popularity.

DBSKer Note: Yomiuri is one of the 5 national newspapers (not a magazine) sold in Japan. They did a segment in POPSTYLE called "All About TVXQ", which explores how far the boys have come from their early days. No wonder it was sold out ^^; All the fans must have dived to save a clipping of the newspaper for themselves.

SM Fights Back for DBSK's MIROTIC + Japanese News Coverage on Incident

credit: farahmicky

SM.ENTERTAINMENT LEGAL COURT CASE AGAINST THE BANNING OF DBSK'S 4TH ALBUM FOR UNDER 19 .

Previously, we reported on how DBSK's 4th album was put under the 19 year age banned by the Youth Safety Association on November, however SM ENT will starting next week file a legal case against this to the Justice Court/ District Court.

DBSK's Management SM Entertainment (SM), quoted by Money Today's Star New : " We will go through administrative measures against the suspension by filing a case next week to the District Court" "We have been getting ready for this legal case on the 2nd "

"We have agreed to release a clean version of 'Jumon - Mirotic' by the administrative order, but this is something we do not agree with and feel this is entirely unfair. Therefore we have decided to file a case to the court against the administration's displosure. "

Ministry for Health, Welfare and Family Affairs administration has on the November 27th declared that DBSK's rth album's Mirotic's lyrics were provocative and put the album under harmful to the Youth.

The Commission of Youth Protection have said that the words and the meaning of 'Jumon-Mirotic' were not the only problem but the entire lyrics' meaning was harmful and overly sexual.

After the Commission of Youth Protection had released this statement SM.ENT said " Even before when the order had been put against MIROTIC, we have clearly negotiated and tried to explain the real meaning and explanation of the lyrics , but even after this the results came out unexpectedly and we are bewildered as of this moment" " and the JUMON -MIROTIC's lyrical meaning is entirely different and miles away from the erotic or sexual that the association is making it to be "

DBSK's 4th album by the END OF November hit 460,000 sales ( FROM SM.ENT). This is the highest record sale for this year out of any artists/idols.

However with the current condition and news coverage of DBSK's CD age ban has caused Japanese Media to release news coverage of this.. ( my friend who lives in japan said for the past 2 days she saw DBSK'S MIROTIC age ban incident on every news and entertainment news channel..ㅜㅜ...)

On the 4th, Japan's AsahiTv, Nihon Tv. etc. had released their coverage as ' Asia's Star DbSK and the bann of the CD release single MIROTIC. Sankei Sports news on the 5th, Sports-Nippon released their news " AGE ban of DBSK 4th album,, will this AFFECT DBSk's attendance for NHK's REd white ceremony?" ( the PD FOR NHK already releasd a statement said that this incident will not prevent DBSK. at all for attendance.)

DBSk have also hit the top charts in Japan's Oricon charts numerous times, and have won twice in a row the golden artists award at the " Best hit Gayo Awards" Japan.

EXTENSIVE JAPANESE MEDIA REPORTS ON MIROTIC'S BAN IN KOREA

12 4 Super J channel tvxq news -

My Comments:
The Japanese coverage of the ban has been very sensationalized. The news was shockingly on many Japanese NATIONAL NEWS channels with lengthy air time towards the story. Either all the Japanese media is suddenly interested in DBSK after their Kohaku invite and deem them important enough to have reporters go to Korea for interviews with the public, or they are surprised (and probably laughing) at how sensitive the Korea Youth Safety Association is. Some Japanese news channels interviewed people on the streets after making them hear a sample of the song and the general public thought there was nothing wrong with the lyrics at all (especially compared to whats available out there in the Japanese market). 10 out of 100 000 songs released in Japan are labelled inappropriate in a year.

Japan aside, I don't understand why songs like "One More Time" by Jewelry escapes from the banishment of a 19-over sticker. I also do not understand why the Youth Safety Association, if they really are trying to clean up the music scene, doesn't ban the "sexy" image many Kpop stars are conceptualizing in their stage performances and stop youngters from attending those concerts/performances. Yet, of course, those ultra skimpy clothing and suggestive dancing on shows watched by thousands of people are clearly not "harmful to the youth" at all !

Whatever it is, this is clearly a very embarrassing situation for the Korean government to be covered in such a way in Japan, same goes for SM & DBSK. Hope they can sort this mess out.

[EDIT] LOL!

I take that back...maybe the coverage on Japanese national news was a good thing for them.

THEIR SINGLE SALES WENT UP FROM OUT OF TOP 200 IN ORICON CHART TO 28 after the news coverage!

DBSK made their comeback to Korea after 1 year and 7 months of being Japan. But BigEast and other Japanese fans cannot be stopped. They still made THSK the number one in yesterday's Daily Oricon Chart with a whopping 30,000 sales on first day (most likely from preorders)!

TVXQ / DBSK’s 4TH ALBUM PRE-ORDERS BREAK RECORD

Two years after their “O-Union” album, TVXQ is now finally set to release their 4th Korean album!

Amazingly, on the first day, according to SM Entertainment, the number of people that pre-ordered the album broke records. Reportedly the pre-orders were already a whopping 200,000 just on the first day. When TVXQ released their first album (Tri-Angle), it was only 10,000. During their second album (Rising Sun), they got 130,000 pre-orders. On their 3rd album “O-Union” pre-orders on the first 2 days reached 100,000.

TVXQ has been a very busy group. They have been concentrating in Japan for almost a year or two and their popularity has truly skyrocketed across Asia, making international music audiences curious. Now that their 4th album is set for release, not only their Korean fans, but also International fans, are buying the album.

Fans across Korea have been waiting for TVXQ to make a comeback in their homeland. These Korean fans have been anticipating an album release since last year. That much wait must have been frustrating. But fans still show their support and love despite it all. In fact their support seem to have gotten even bigger.

It is expected that TVXQ will take home some prestigious awards by the end of 2008. According to our source, last year’s Golden Disk Awards top record was 150,000 record sales. But now that TVXQ has already received a big 200,000 pre-orders on the first day, what more when the album is officially released? It is predicted that their record sales might even reach to 500,000 or more!

The 4th album release is set for September 2008. TVXQ is now currently busy recording songs for the new album. Fans have been spotting them in and out of SM Entertainment’s office for the past weeks. Reportedly, TVXQ will be releasing a Korean version of their Japanese song Kiss Shita Mama Sayonara (As We Kissed Goodbye), which was written and composed by TVXQ members, Micky Yoochun and Hero Jaejoong collaborated on this song.

Indeed, TVXQ is becoming better and better as they grow with their music. They have proved that they deserve more than be called “idols” in Korea. And we already know that they have become more than that.

Rumours Confirmed: Music Station refuses to accept Tohoshinki/DBSK as guests

I guess what we all thought about Music Station conspiracy was true :/

S-San (one of the Japanese staff members of Tohoshinki) made a recent post in his blog confirming the rumours about Music Station's refusal to invite DBSK into their program.

Many fans have been speculating for quite some time the reason why DBSK never appeared on the show, especially with the recent #1 on weekly Oricon (their third one, which broke a record as foreign artist with three #1s). DBSK has been consistently in the top 10 weekly in Japanese Oricon charts with their singles and last album. Music Station usually invites singers in top 10 in Oricon atleast once to perform. However, this has not been the case with DBSK, as S-San points out even with the insistence of the company to let them on fairly.

Their lack of promotions in such a major show as Music Station (it is one of the most watched shows in the country on a prime time slot) has become jarringly apparent and discussion spring up everytime they release a single as to why they are still not invited. Majority say that its because of Johnny's Entertainment stronghold on Music Station, pointing out that no bands/artists that posed a threat to that agency have ever been invited.

S-San never expicitly states the show's name, however he mentions that Tohoshinki was on the show's #1 list this week, yet still weren't given the chance to perform.

The post also explains the lack of sales of the group, owing to the fact that they are still placed in Foreign Artist category in music stores even though they should be under Jpop. Fans who recently visited Japan confirmed this. They all found it quite hard to find Tohoshinki's CDs in stores, sometimes they were not there at all. Many times, they were put under a hidden K-pop or foriegn artists section. So this really explains why sales get poor after promotions stop ... their CDs aren't in visible places where someone just browsing the jpop section can pick up and give a try listening to.

I was wondering how S-San posted about this sticky topic, knowing how hush-hush Japan usually is about these matters. He sounds frustrated, and is probably making his last desperate attempt to try to change the situation - by letting fans know what we all sort of feared existed behind the scenes (of the group not exactly getting equal oppotunity), isn't going away anytime soon. But he urges fan to do something and says that "...the store's customers will have the most impact". The fans in Japan must speak up to store managers about DBSK's CDs being put under "Foreign Artist" section instead of where they rightfully should be - under JPOP.

Brief summary/translation of his post:
He hasn't written in a while. It's been really hot in Japan and he's been thinking about various things when working.

The boys wonderfully reached #1 in the weekly singles chart with the fans' strong support.

Also the members are really happy, and their self-confidence has been boosted.

The TV-promotion continues busy this week. They're being in more shows than ever before this time, they're for the first time in 「THE M」 and 「CDTV」

T/N: I translated this part sentence-for-sentence because I think this is what interests people:

There's a certain really popular program where the boys haven't been able to appear since they've [the program] been rejecting any interest the [Avex] promotion-team's been showing that way.

The promoter in charge has been fighting hard and will keep trying. The boys have reached #1 in this program's ranking, but when it comes to the offer about guesting in the show and a performance...Even after three weekly #1s, there's nothing from that direction.

There hasn't really been any kind of an explanation offered about the issue either, but the team will keep working hard for an appearance in that show!

But if it continues like this and the inquiries keep coming from the viewers as well, how can a music program explain this kind of behaviour?

T/N: Here we go for the record store-issue:

Of course the promotion-team is striving for the best possible set-up in the stores (but obviously, so are all of the other artists' promotors as well).
It depends on every store (chain) where they put the releases; and some of the stores have the Tohoshinki in the "Foreign acts" -section instead of "Jpop".

The store's bought the CDs so naturally they can advertise it how they want to and how they think it will sell the best.

They've been trying to have some type of an agreement on this, but especially now when they changed the release date for "Kimisuki" in such a short notice, it became even harder to get the majority of the shops to put the single in the Jpop-section instead of Foreign acts.

It's better when you have time to talk to the stores way before the release and assure things, because all the things are mostly decided abour 6 months before the release already. So a date-change doesn't make things easier at all.

So they had to cancel the space reserved for the CDs in the stores for the original release week, and ask for another setting for the new week.

Of course that messes up the stores' plans and they have to be quick and get a Plan B up. And most of them decided to give the maximum exposure by putting Kimisuki in the foreign-shelves.

-more stuff about the Jpop- and world-corners in the shops-
Tohoshinki will continue releasing Jpop (with good results).

They hope that the fans will understand the managing team and the stores' policies. The team will keep working and he believes that the sales will do well during the next few weeks.

He apologizes for the long entry, but thinks that it will be useful for the people interested in the music industry in general.

There really are many questions that keep popping up on the net. For example, if they really are a threat to Johnny's like many suppose, why are groups such as WaT allowed to appear on the show? Moreover, they don't promote themselves as an idol group so why should they be barred from Music Station when their target audience is quite different?

Seeing them work so extremely hard (including their staff) in a foreign industry, trying to improve their fluency and singing, travelling back and forth one city/country to another literally day after day, bascially doing all they can...yet still be treated as the underdogs when they clearly have so much VOCAL TALENT (yes - aside looks - they are actually TALENTED) and great personalities. Now I know why they felt so disheartened earlier when they mentioned they almost gave up on Japan in their Korean interview (Star Show). But they didn't give up and are still working hard, and we should all support them. At the end of the road, they will really grow and become even better as people and artists ♥ FIGHTING~

[Sales] NEW RECORD! With #1 place as foreign artists on Japanese weekly Oricon charts

IT'S OFFICIAL!

Oricon just published the news here. (This post will be edited with the translation when it becomes available)

The single "Doushite kimi wo suki ni natte shimattan darou?" has ranked #1 in Oricon Weekly Charts, outselling its competitor Yui Aragaki.

The boys are now the only Foreign artist to get three #1's on the Oricon Weekly Chart for singles in Japan. The previous record holder was Ouyang FeiFei, who had two #1's on the Oricon. They're now the new record holder.

TRANSLATION:

The five member idol group Tohoshinki's third single Doushite Kimi Wo Suki Ni Natte Shimattandarou sold 68,000 copies in its first week. This is Tohoshinki's third consecutive #1 single on the weekly charts, making them the first group to achieve this.

Tohoshinki's singles Purple Line (1/28) and Beautiful You (5/5) and lastly Doushite Kimi Wo Suki Ni Natte Shimattandarou attained 1st place on the weekly charts. They are the first foreign group to achieve this feat. The last two groups who held the record were Ou Yang Fei Fei in 1971/72 and Ravisu Ova in 1984 whom each had two consecutive #1 weekly singles.

Tohoshinki, the male idol group, debuted in February 2004. The five members are Yunho, Jaejoong, Yoochun, Changmin, and Junsu. They debuted in Japan in April 2005 with their single, Stay with me Tonight.

[VIDEO] Music Station - Doushite kimi wo suki ni natte shimattan darou? ranked #1

OMG! I felt VERY elated looking at this...
Music Station is like one of the biggest music show sin Japan and for them to appear as #1 on it made me extremely happy.

I still wish they would get invited to the show though, they have proven themselves enough times comparatively, even for a foreign artist. I feel its very unfair that they restrict them from coming because of a certain entertainment agency control issue *ahem*

Let's not think about it I guess, and celebrate! XD Maybe if they come #1 every other time, Music Station will have to give in and invite them :)
