Party and Recital weekend!

We had a busy weekend the weekend before Memorial Day! It was E's recital day and we planned J's birthday party for earlier in the day. Jason's mom had flown in to see E and her recital so we decided to have the party the same weekend.

J LOVES Little Einsteins. He can sing the entire theme song and asks to watch it by patting his hands on his legs (which if you haven't seen the show you probably won't get.) So he obviously had to have a Little Einsteins party. There is very little decorating stuff out there because it is such an old show but I think it came together quite nicely. We had it at this really cool park in a nearby town. It almost didn't happen at the park because the forecast was calling for rain all week. I prayed and prayed because I really didn't want it at my house and on Saturday morning, it was cloudy but rain chances were at 10%!!! Yippee!

Anyways, the party was a lot of fun and the birthday boy had fun playing at the park and eating cake!

My babysitter is really good at drawing and I asked her to draw a picture of Rocket and Annie, Leo, Quincy, and June. I just showed her a picture and she did this:

Is this not amazing? I used it as the photo op place for all the kids! Now it's hanging in J's room and he loves it!

I did not make these cupcakes, but I did make the cupcake toppers. I used some print off that the Disney website lets you print off, and I made toppers out of them.

I made these by using those little circle fans,  printing off this template here and then gluing them inside these pails with some fabric for decoration.

I bought this banner off Easy and the

Those musical note sugar cookies are gluten and dairy free and they were amazing. So so good. I got the recipe here.

The kids had a ton of fun playing at the playground. They even had a nature walk area that the kids went exploring and there were a ton of painted rocks left by people to find!

They found ants and were very intrigued. 😆

After we played for a good hour, we had cake! I made this cake (gluten and dairy free). I bought the Little Einsteins print off a website and stuck it on there. It came out pretty well I think.

The wind kept blowing out the candle so we had to resort to this.

We sang Happy Birthday and everyone enjoyed the yummy cake or cupcake.

We took a picture with all the kids in front of Rocket and then family photos. E and J loved that their MawMaw was there for the weekend.

I love my family so much! It was such a great day to celebrate our little sweet boy!

When we got home, J went down for a nap, and I got E ready for her recital later that afternoon. I was one of the room moms so I stayed with E's class the whole time. To watch this little girl dance is a complete joy of mine. She loves it,  and I love watching her. She did a tap and ballet dance this year and did fantastic.

These stage pictures were taken at rehearsal since we can't take pictures during the actual recital

This is E with her dance teacher, Miss Lindsay. She learned so much from her this year.

Right before the recital started with my sweet girl

They had a cute little photo op place to take pictures with your dancer out in the foyer. We had a lot of fun with our poses.

Such a fun and memorable weekend with my kiddos! I can't believe another year of dance is over, and we celebrated another birthday. Crazy how quickly it goes!

MAYhem

Have you seen the YouTube video the Holderness Family did about the month of May to the tune of Katy Perry's Firework?? I pretty much think that describes my life during the month of May, and I don't even have kids in public school!!! Ha!

Anyways, here is a recap of the first couple of weeks of May (with the exception of this weekend):

My mom came to visit the first week of May (and yet I managed to get no pictures of her with the kids..oops) but we had so much fun with her here. She got to attend a theater play with us and got to watch a soccer game of E's.

On May 4th, one of my good friend's from college got married! Several of my college friends including the bestie who flew in from Oregon were there. Such a great time to celebrate our friend's wedding and have a great time with friends sans kiddos.

This chapel was so pretty and quaint.

With the happy couple!!

These girls are some of my favorite people (we were missing just one). College was the best with them. Even though most of us don't live close to each other, I know that I can always count on them. They are my people.

Group hug!

The next day after the wedding, my mom and I took the kids to go to Casa Mañana to see The Little Mermaid. We have been going to these children's plays for the last 3 years because we get the tickets pretty cheap for our MOPS group. This is probably one of the best ones we have seen there! The costumes, the sets, and the actors were just absolutely phenomenal! J even sat still for almost an hour before getting restless - that never happens!!

Super excited to be seeing the play!!

Oh look! There's a picture of my mom =) We took several walks with the kids in our neighborhood. The kids thought it would be way fun to play at the sand by one of the ponds.

E's last soccer game was the next day and my mom was there to watch. It's been really fun to watch her this year because she has actually tried to get the ball from people, and she has almost scored and has blocked people from scoring several times. She had fun playing with her two good friends this season.

E had her last dance class for the year, and she got a ribbon for completing her third year of a dance. I can't believe she has done 3 full years of dance! I have loved watching her grow in her dancing abilities this year. She has truly blossomed.

My little boy is full of sweetness and making people laugh. He loves to sit at the piano and make up "songs" , and then he continued to call my name until I found him in the stroller just so he could see me laugh. Sweet boy.

Jason's brother graduated from Audiology graduate school in Dallas,  and they had a white coat ceremony for his class of 10. Jason and I went to celebrate with him. We took J with us because he wasn't feeling well so we didn't want to leave him with the babysitter. It was such a neat ceremony, and I am super proud of my brother in law for this accomplishment. He now heads to Nashville to start his PhD.

And then...J got diagnosed strep. I feel super bad for taking him with us to the ceremony, but it wasn't really bad until we got back. Oh well. Poor guy. The next couple of days was spent with lots of  snuggles and fluids.

On Mother's Day, J was still not feeling 100% so we stayed home from church. The kids made me cards and made me some cute little bookmarks with their fingerprints on them.  I laminated them so I can keep them forever! We played outside in the front after nap time for a bit. It was a nice relaxing Mother's Day.

He did not want to take pictures. He kept yelling "no"

I sat and relaxed with my Starbucks while Jason played with the kids and their bikes.

We went to the zoo with some of our friends on half price Wednesday last week. We apparently went with everyone else in the DFW area. It was complete chaos, but we had fun!!

Checking out the sea otters

It's been a crazy month but it's almost over!! I can't wait for the slower paced June that we will be having!
