My weekend
Wow! I've gone over 17,000 hits on my blog since I added my counter. Who the heck is looking at my blog? I only have about 1.2 followers who consistently leave comments (thanks brother). Oh well, whoever you are, I hope you enjoy my random thoughts.
Happy Labor Day! I believe there is nothing better than a 3-day weekend! It was especially nice because Irv was off. He works most every holiday and this is the last holiday he won't be working this year. You would think we would pack up and go somewhere, but no, we just hung around the house.
So here are some random thoughts from my weekend.

So here are some random thoughts from my weekend.
We went to Denver on Saturday to see Peter and the Star catcher. Didn't love it, really didn't even like it. Considered leaving at intermission.
Had lunch at bd's Mongolian BBQ. Always good!
Made my first ever visit to the brand new Cabela's in south Denver. Took about 7.3 minutes to tour the whole thing. Did not see anything I was interested in.
Decided to give the smoker one more try after a friend suggested we drill holes in it to allow more airflow. Apparently smoking at high altitude is an art unto itself.
My garden has gone squash crazy even though I only planted half as much as last year. Spent the morning shredding zucchini and freezing it to make bread in the future. Not sure it will work very well, but from what I read on the Internet it might work. Also sliced some up some zucchini and blanched it before putting it in the freezer. We'll see if that works too.
Harvested some cherry tomatoes and cucumbers from my garden. Yes, these cucumbers are short and fat, but they're better than nothing. Made them into some German cucumber salad for dinner. Yum!
Success with the smoker. The holes worked! Ribs were overdone, but that's better than raw like the last two times we tried. We'll get the hang of it sooner or later.
Got a great picture of my grand dog, Diesel. He's spending the weekend with us while Jillian visits her in-laws in Wisconsin. I haven't told her yet that he cut his paw and bled all over our bed. Do you think that will affect our chances of keeping any future grand kids for the weekend?
Irv did lawn work all day. Yes, our backyard could almost be baled. Look how green that grass is! We have the best looking yard in the middle of nowhere, Colorado.
I had to go get a pedicure by myself this morning since Jillian was out of town. I tried a new place since the last pedi I got only lasted 3 days before one toe nail chipped completely off.
So that's my weekend in a nutshell. I made one more commitment this weekend. I'm going to try to wean myself off of Ambien. Last night was the first night. I admit that I'm a total addict, I wish I had never started the stuff. Getting off of it is really difficult and I'm not sure I can do it. From what I've read I can expect 10-14 days of little to no sleep. I'm going to give it a shot so if I say or do anything crazy over the next couple weeks, just know I'm sleep deprived and cranky. I apologize in advance for my actions. Wish me luck!
So, what did you do over the long weekend?

Just hang with the smoking and it will get better. Glad you had some good advice. My advice is to get a meat thermometer. With barbecue that is the only sure way to tell if it is done or not.
Great post
