U-Paint Metal Crafts - Acanthus Leaf Scroll Cuff Bracelet with Tutorial

Hello everyone!  Today, I am excited to share my first U-Paint Metal Crafts® project with you.   If you are not familiar with UPMC I encourage you to visit their website.  They have over 300 U-Paint Metal Craft Kits to choose from.  The metal pieces are designed for all Designers, Artists, Makers, DIY Crafters/Hobbyists. The detail on the designs is amazing! The metal pieces can be used for mixed media, home decor, altered art, and even jewelry.  If you have been following my blog for any length of time you know I love to design jewelry.  So it shouldn't be any surprise that my first project is a jewelry piece--and I have to say I love how it turned out!  I also have a step-by-step tutorial to share with you.

Here is a look at the cuff bracelet I designed using a piece of the Acanthus Leaf Scroll Brass Deco - Trim U-Paint Metal Crafts®.  This leaf scroll design is so beautiful!
All supplies are listed and linked below.  :)

1)  To start, cut a piece of the Acanthus Leaf Scroll Brass Deco - Trim to the desired length.  The length will depend on the size of bracelet you would like to make.

2)  Using a metal file smooth the edges on each end of the metal trim piece.

3)  Then wash the metal piece with warm soap and water to remove any dust and oil.

4)  Using a Vintaj™ Filigree Shaping Pliers bend and shape the piece of metal trim to form the shape of the cuff bracelet.

5)  Use Krylon© White Matte Spray Paint to paint all sides of the bracelet.  Be sure to paint the edges too.  The backside of the bracelet will feel a little rough at first but with a couple coats of paint it smooths out.

6)  Using a sponge apply Tonic Studios© NUVO® Embellishment Mousse, 822N Pacific Teal and 807N Aquamarine.  If you haven't used the embellishment mousse before it is very easy to work with. It is smooth and creamy--kind of like whipped butter.  For the best coverage pounce the sponge onto the bracelet instead of trying to wipe it on.

7)  Set aside to dry or use a heat tool to speed up the drying time.  If you use a heat tool please be careful as the metal will become very hot.  So allow the piece some time to cool.

8)  Next, use a piece of Steel Wool Grade #0000 to sand and buff back the paint until some of the metal is revealed.  When working with steel wool you might want to wear a mask.  When sanding the steel wool creates a lot of tiny fibers.

9)  To add the glitter apply a small amount of Beacon Adhesives©, Gem-Tac™ using a Mini Applicator Disposable Adhesive Brush.  If you don't have one of these applicators you can use a small paint brush.  Just be sure to wash the brush right away so the adhesive doesn't dry.  Then sprinkle on some Tonic Studios© NUVO® Pure Sheen Glitter, 720N Champagne.  Whenever I used glitter I use a coffee filter to catch the excess and then it can easily be funneled back into the container.

10)  Set aside to dry.  If you end up with too much glitter in a certain area wait for the adhesive to dry and then gently rub off the excess glitter with your fingers.

11)  Use a toothpick to apply the Beacon Adhesives©, Dazzle Tac Jewelry Glue™ and then add the ButterBeeScraps, SS16 Aquamarine Flat Back Crystals.  Set aside to dry.

12)  For the final step, mix a small amount of ICE Resin®.  Mix ICE Resin® according to the instructions. Then use a brush to apply a thin layer of resin. Be sure not to add resin on top of the crystals, but you can apply it around the edges to secure the crystals even more.  Set aside on a ICE Resin® Studio Sheet to harden and cure.  Approximately 6-8 hours.

If you like to create jewelry this is a really great project and it would make a wonderful gift--for yourself or a friend.  The leafy scroll design is so beautiful!

This aqua blue color is very on trend right now.  I love all of the sparkle from the glitter and crystals.

I hope you enjoyed the step-by-step tutorial.  Don't forget to check out all of the fabulous metal pieces and kits in the U-Paint Metal Crafts® online store.  If you are an Amazon shopper some of the metal kits are also available there.
Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Heidi

Vintage Christmas Angel Ornament - ButterBeeScraps and ICE Resin

Hello everyone!  I can't believe on Sunday it was 84 degrees here in Minnesota but today we are back down to the more normal Autumn temps -- it's in the 30's this morning!  Brrrr  LOL!  Today, I have another Christmas ornament to share with you.  I am going to be doing a show in November for Small Business Saturday (more information to come) so I have been busy creating--Christmas ornaments, lots of jewelry, home decor and small gift items.

Here is a look at the Christmas ornament.  I started with a Hobnail Circle Bezel and added the Christmas Angel Image.  The bezel is filled with ICE Resin and then I sprinkled in a little Silver German Glass Glitter.  I added 4 mm Rhinestone Chain around the outer edge of the bezel and then I added a piece of Bronze Metal Filigree Embellishment (#020-B).  I spray painted the filigree with Krylon White Flat Spray Paint, buffed it with steel wool and then sealed it with Krylon Crystal Clear Sealer.  I also added little clusters of SS12 Clear Flat Back Glass Rhinestones and white flat back pearls around the metal filigree piece.

Here is a close up of the embellished bezel.  I just love the image of this little angel!

To create the beaded chandelier dangle I used some bronze wire and wire wrapped the Clear GLASS Chandelier Drop Pendants (#GL1437-CL) and then I added Bronze Filigree Bead Caps (#CAP629-B) (Lg Bead Cap).  Next I added some pearls from my stash and a Bronze Filigree Bead Caps (#CAP052-B) (Sm Bead Cap) with a couple of Clear Rhinestone and Bronze Rondelle Spacer Beads – 8mm (#BD008-B/CL) and Clear Rhinestone and Bronze Rondelle Spacer Beads – 6mm (#BD006-B/CL).  Then I connected the dangle to the bezel and wire wrapped the loop.  To finish off the bezel I added some seam binding for the hanger.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Don't forget to hop on over to ButterBeeScraps and check out all of the metal filigrees, bling and jewelry findings--there is something for everyone!

Hope you have a beautiful day!

Hugs,
Heidi

DIY Snowflake Christmas Ornament Tutorial with ButterBeeScraps and Krylon Paint

Hello everyone!  Today, I have a quick and easy Christmas project to share with you.  Halloween is right around the corner and before with know it we will be celebrating Thanksgiving and then Christmas.  I love decorating for the holiday but some of the home decor and decoration can be a little spendy so I love doing DIY projects.  Especially if I find something really inexpensive like items from the dollar store and I can put a creative spin on it to create something beautiful for the home.  Today, I am going to share with you how I used snowflakes from the dollar store and added some embellishment to make some beautiful ornaments for the tree.

Here is the snowflake from the dollar store.  It's just a simple plastic glittery snowflake.  Pretty on it's own and full of sparkle when the lights from the tree hit all the glitter.  But think of all the ways these snowflakes can be embellished.

Check out the snowflake after I added some metal filigree pieces and a bit of bling.  It totally changes the look of the snowflake.  I just love how these turned out!  So beautiful and elegant.  To look at the snowflake now you would never think it came from the dollar store.

All of the metal filigree pieces and bling that I used are from ButterBeeScraps.  All of the metal filigree pieces were bronze and I used Krylon Flat White spray paint on all of the pieces.  Then I buffed them using steel wool to reveal some of the metal.  You can see in the photo the oblong metal filigree piece Bronze Metal Filigree Embellishment (#683-B).  I used four of these filigree pieces and cut them in half for a total of eight pieces.  I also used two of the Bronze Snowflake Metal Filigree Embellishment (#203-B).  I left one of the snowflakes flat and the other one I bent the tips for some added dimension.

Here you can see how I started to add the metal filigree pieces.  I used Ranger - Multi Medium Matte with a fine tip of the bottle to glue everything in place.  This is a great adhesive--it's very strong just like glossy accents but it drys with a matte finish so if you have any adhesive the seeps out from under the embellishments you don't see it.

Here I added the second layer of the filigree pieces.  After I had all of these pieces glued in place then I layered the two snowflakes and added a Bling Center RES823-CL.  I also added some SS20 Clear AB Flat Back Crystal Rhinestones for a little more sparkle.

Here is a close up of the snowflakes in the center.

I hope you enjoyed this quick and easy DIY tutorial!  I know I will be making a few more of these snowflakes--I think they will look beautiful on the tree!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Hope you have a fantastic weekend!

ButterBeeScraps - Butterfly Beaded Dangle Necklaces

Hello everyone!  Today, I have some pretty butterfly beaded dangle necklaces to share with you.

I designed three butterfly dangle necklaces that are all very similar in style--just different colors and a few different beads.  I used BRONZE BUTTERFLY METAL FILIGREE EMBELLISHMENT (#638-B).  I used a metal hole punch to create the holes at the top and bottom of the butterflies.  All of the butterflies were bronze and then I applied Krylon White Flat Spray Paint.  I used Steel Wool (#0000) to buff off some of the paint to reveal the metal.  Once I achieved the desired look then I sealed each piece with Krylon Crystal Clear Sealer.

Here is a close up of the pink butterfly dangle necklace.  For this necklace I used BRONZE BUTTERFLY METAL FILIGREE EMBELLISHMENT (#638-B) and I added SS16 LIGHT ROSE FLAT BACK GLASS RHINESTONESS12 LIGHT ROSE FLAT BACK GLASS RHINESTONES for the body of the butterfly.  For the beaded dangle I used BRONZE BALL END HEAD PINSBRONZE FILIGREE BEAD CAPS (#CAP046-B)6X8MM ROSE PINK PEARLIZED FACETED GLASS ABACUS BEADS, and 4X6MM ROSE PINK PEARLIZED FACETED GLASS ABACUS BEADS.  I also used a couple bronze flower spacers beads from my own stash.

Here is the second necklace I designed.

Here is a look at the third necklace.

Here is a close up.  For this last necklace I used the bronze butterfly and then added SS16 AQUAMARINE FLAT BACK GLASS RHINESTONESSS12 AQUAMARINE FLAT BACK GLASS RHINESTONES for the body of the butterfly.  To create the dangle I used CLEAR RHINESTONE AND BRONZE RONDELLE SPACER BEADS – 6MM (#BD006-B/CL)BRONZE BALL END HEAD PINS, and BRONZE FILIGREE BEAD CAPS (#CAP052-B).  I also used a Aqua Tear Drop Bead and Aqua Seed Beads from my own stash.

Shabby Gems Fleur De Lis Necklace

Hello everyone!  Today, I have a jewelry piece to share with you.  I designed a beautiful shabby fleur de lis necklace with lots of sparkle.

I get a lot of emails from people asking different question about the jewelry I design from where to purchase supplies to jewelry tips and people wanting to know how long I have been designing jewelry.  It has only been in the last couple of years that I started posting some of my jewelry pieces on the blog so a lot of people think it is something that I have only been doing for a short time.  But I have actually been designing jewelry for many years 15+.  I wanted to bring something new to the blog and handmade jewelry really started to take off a couple of years ago and become very popular so the timing was perfect.  I love designing jewelry and I hope you enjoy the different pieces I share with you.  :)

Here is the necklace I designed.  I used several products from ButterBeeScraps and then a few things from my own stash.  I started out with the BRONZE FLUER DE LIS TIBETAN CHARMS (#J352-B) piece.  I spray painted it using Krylon Flat White and then I lightly buffed it using steal wool (grade #0000) to reveal some of the metal.  Then I sprayed it with Krylon Crystal Clear Satin to seal the piece.  Next I added a bit of sparkle with the SS8 CLEAR AB POINTY BACK CRYSTAL RHINESTONESSS10 CLEAR AB POINTY BACK CRYSTAL RHINESTONES, and white flat back pearls to the fleur de lis.

Here is a close up look at the fleur de lis.  To create a dangle at the bottom I added some TEXTURED BRONZE CABLE CHAIN (#CH521-B) and then I created a beaded dangle.  For the beaded dangle I used a BRONZE BALL END HEAD PINSBRONZE FILIGREE BEAD CAPS (#CAP052-B)CLEAR RHINESTONE AND BRONZE RONDELLE SPACER BEADS – 6MM (#BD006-B/CL), clear tear drop bead, and a white rose bead.

I created some wire wrapped bead strands using bronze wire, BRONZE FILIGREE BEAD CAPS (#CAP052-B)CLEAR RHINESTONE AND BRONZE RONDELLE SPACER BEADS – 6MM (#BD006-B/CL), clear oblong glass beads, and white rose beads.  I made four of these bead strands and then added TEXTURED BRONZE CABLE CHAIN (#CH521-B) and a smaller bead strand in between to create the length of the necklace.

Here is a close up of the smaller bead strands.

Thank you so much for stopping by today and I hope you enjoyed this jewelry piece.  :)

DIY Projects for the Studio - Changing Up Clearance Items with a Little Krylon Spray Paint

Hello everyone!  Today, I have a couple of DIY projects to share with you.  Recently I hit the jackpot on so home decor items and I thought they would be perfect in my studio.

Last week I shared a few sneak peek pictures of some DIY projects and this was one of them.  I love what you can do with just a can of spray paint and some steel wool.

Here is a close up of the Krylon Aqua paint I used.  Love this color!

Here is a picture of the two pieces I found on clearance.  Both pieces are all metal.  The oval on the pedestal was originally $24.99 and I purchased it for $4.00.  The two tiered heart shape stand was $34.99 and I purchased it for $5.00.  I have a before picture of the oval pedestal (photo below) but I forgot to take a picture of the tiered heart shape stand.  The oval pedestal was originally green and rust and the tiered heart stand was black.

Here is a picture of the oval pedestal before I started painting it.

Here is a close up of the flower after the entire stand was painted.  *Note--the color is a little off in this picture.  The paint is more aqua as you will see in the other picture.  I used a piece of 0000 steel wool to buff/sand off some of the paint in different areas.  I use the 0000 steel wool a lot for buffing/sanding on metal.  It will remove the paint without scratching it.  Once the fibers from the steel wool are brushed off it leaves a nice smooth finish.

Here is the flower after I used the steel wool.  I love how some of the rust and green colors come through and it gives the piece an aged look.

I added SS12 CLEAR AB POINTY BACK CRYSTAL RHINESTONES and SS16 CLEAR AB FLAT BACK CRYSTAL RHINESTONES from ButterBeeScraps to the flower center for a little bit of sparkle.

Here is the entire stand.

This is a close up on the top part of the oval and you can see the different colors and layers of paint.

Here is a close up of the base.

I thought this piece would be perfect to hang earrings on and for only $4.00 I couldn't pass it up.

The next piece is the two tiered heart shape stand.  On this piece I just spray painted it and left it as is.  I used the same Krylon Aqua paint.  Krylon is my favorite brand of spray paint.  I love the color choices and they have paints for so many different surfaces.  I wasn't sure if I wanted this piece to have an aged look of not.  So for right now it is just staying the pretty aqua color and maybe down the road I will change it.

I love the detail on the metal edging.  It looks like lace.

Here is a view from the top looking down.  In the top piece I have a lot of cameos and a few other resin pieces.  The bottom holds all of my washi tape.

These two new pieces make a great addition to my studio.  Don't forget to check out the clearance sections of the store.  You never know what you might find.  Remember you can always change up the color with a little paint.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Hugs & Smiles,
Heidi
