China: a new era of China-Central Asia relations

Held in the ancient Chinese city of Xi’an, the historic eastern end of the Silk Road that linked China to Europe through Central Asia, Beijing has said this week’s meeting is of “milestone significance”.

And in a speech to the region’s leaders at a welcoming banquet Thursday evening, Xi said strengthening ties was a “strategic choice”.

“I am confident that with our joint efforts, tomorrow’s summit will be a full success and will herald a new era of China-Central Asia relations,” Xi was quoted as saying in a readout of the speech seen by AFP.

USA: QAnon coalition wants to 'control the election system' - by April Siese

A Qanon conference held in Las Vegas last weekend saw far-right conspiracy-mongers lay out their ambitious plans to “take back the secretaries of state offices around the country,” according to Jim Marchant, who’s running for Nevada secretary of state. Marchant was among a handful of political hopefuls who’ve formed a coalition in hopes of solving the nonexistent issue of voter fraud.

“I can’t stress enough how important the secretary of state offices are. I think they are the most important elections in our country in 2022,” Marchant said at the “For God & Country Patriot Double Down” event. “And why is that? We control the election system. In 2022 we’re going to take back our country.”

The mastermind behind the coalition appears to be a fringe figure known by the name Juan O. Savin, whom many in the QAnon world believe to be JFK Jr. Savin rarely shows his face except for by accident while filming live streams, so it came as a surprise when he appeared at the conference and held court for upwards of an hour. Emcee Andre Popa pushed the theory despite the fact that yet another person suspected to be JFK Jr. was in attendance. Somehow Savin has the ear of prominent QAnon believers like Jim Caviezel, who welcomed Savin to the stage over the weekend with a warm embrace. It was Savin and Marchant who initially met shortly after the 2020 election to hatch their plan. They held their first meeting as a coalition in May, alongside backers like MyPillow and election fraud fetishist Mike Lindell, former Maria Butina lover and disgraced former Overstock.com CEO Patrick Byrne, and Gateway Pundit founder Jim Hoft.

Though the group appears to have lots of money behind it, there’s not a chance all four candidates who attended the conference—Rachel Hamm, Kristina Karamo, Mark Finchem, and Marchant—will win their elections.

Hamm is running for secretary of state in California, where she is largely predicted to lose simply because the state is so blue. She’s likely not helping her candidacy efforts by continuing to espouse her “prophetic” dreams that involve killing alleged witches and likening Donald Trump to a doting father trying to teach the country a lesson.

Marchant was previously endorsed by Trump during his failed 2020 bid for House representative in Nevada. He has yet to receive an endorsement for his Nevada secretary of state bid. Karamo, meanwhile, already has Trump’s blessing in her bid for Michigan secretary of state, as does Mark Finchem, who currently serves as an Arizona house representative and sees the secretary of state position as a way to help thwart alleged election wrongdoings.

There are 26 states with secretary of state positions up for election on the 2022 ballot. Now more than ever is a great time to get into politics and combat the fringe views of QAnon Republicans. Otherwise, these folks could be running an election in your own community.

EU: Conference on the Future of Europe – a stepping stone to a European federation? by Juuso Järviniemi, Kalojan Hoffmeister

When Ursula von der Leyen was selected as the Commission President through shady backroom deals last summer, she promised a serious debate about the various institutional issues that caused turmoil in Brussels during last year’s European elections. The Conference would be the arena for this debate: the agenda will include questions like how to save the ‘Spitzenkandidaten’ system, how to reform European elections and whether create a European-wide constituency for European elections. Besides institutional puzzles, the Conference is meant to yield ideas for the EU’s political priorities for the years to come.

Climate Change: EU, Canada, China to jointly fight climate change

The European Union, Canada and China are joining forces to strengthen global action in the fight against climate change, co-hosting a Ministerial Meeting on Climate Action on September 15-16 in Montreal, Canada.

This gathering, a first of its kind, seeks to galvanise global momentum for the implementation of the Paris Agreement and will bring together ministers and high-level representatives from 34 economies that are part of the G20 and other invited countries, the Commission said.

Climate Action and Energy Miguel Arias Cañete and Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau are leading lead the roundtable discussion on climate action and clean growth.

Cañete stressed that the EU remains committed to the Paris Agreement and its full and swift implementation. “Domestically, we are progressing steadily with the finalisation of the measures to reduce our emissions by at least 40% by 2030. Internationally, we are strengthening our existing partnerships and seeking new alliances.

Our aim is to raise global climate ambition, follow through with concrete action and support our partners, in particular the most vulnerable countries,” Cañete said.

The meeting in Montreal takes place only days after this year’s State of the Union Address by Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker where he underlined that he “wants Europe to be the leader when it comes to the fight against climate change.

Set against the collapse of ambition in the United States, Europe will ensure we make our planet great again. It is the shared heritage of all of humanity”.

Two months before the next United Nations climate conference (COP23) in Bonn, Germany, the meeting will also provide the space for discussions on the expected outcomes of upcoming UN climate talks, the Commission said.

The End Times: Canadian Inter-Religious Conference Examines “Visions Of The End Times”

Are all the signs pointing towards the end times ?
Majority of the religions of the world prescribe to ‘final days’, ‘last days’ ,’escalation’ and ‘end time’ and believe that world is destined to have an ultimate ending as we know it.

The scriptural prophecies vary a lot and self declared Messiahs, have time over time, come with dates of ‘doomsday’ also.

Those who believe in the linear pattern of existence think that everything has a beginning, middle and end. Thus the end of universe is inevitable. Since the development of the concept of ‘deep time’ in the 18th century, and  with that also the calculation of the estimated age of Earth has been debated, even though most of these predictions can be described as wild guesses.

However, the scientific discourse about end times has centered on the ‘ultimate  fate of the universe’; and theories ‘ such as -Big Rip, Big Crunch, Big Bounce and Big Freeze, have been included.

Some of the spiritual leaders, however, also believe think that the end of the world is a material issue and that people should not waste their time and energy in discussions about it.

The Hindu views of "eschatology" are related with creation and dissolution. Creation begins, they say, when Brahaman (God) makes his energies active and ends when he withdraws the energy. Hindus also believe that the process of creation and dissolution  is cyclic.

Judaism qualifies‘end of days’ makes reference of the Messianic Age, coming of Messiah and the resurrection of the brighteous.

Buddha said  that after 5000 years his teachings will be forgotten and that then a Boddhisatva named Maitreya will come and discover the teaching of dharma.

In  Christianity the  ‘end time’ is  addressed as a period of tribulation, that precedes the Second Coming of Christ, while others think that it also signals the end of personal tribulation, before they become enlightened with a Godly enlightened world government .

Islam in reference with ‘end times’  calls it ‘The Day of Judgment’ that is first preceded by the appearance of Mahdi mounted on a white stallion.

Professor Laura Duhan Kaplan of the Vancouver School of Theology organized this three days conference in May.  The theme of the conference was ’VISIONS OF THE END TIMES’.

Several scholars, academics, graduate students, sociologists and psychologists  presented a total of  nineteen  research papers.

Syrian Crises: Arch-rivals Saudi Arabia, Iran to discuss Syria face-to-face for first time - by Angus McDowall and Bozorgmehr Sharafedin

Arch-rivals Saudi Arabia and Iran announced they would attend international talks in Vienna on Friday on the Syrian conflict, in what will be their first meeting to discuss the four-year-long war.

Saudi Arabia said it aimed to gauge during the talks the willingness of Iran and Russia, the main backers of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his government, for a peace deal, Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said on Wednesday.

"The view of our partners ... was that we should test the intentions of the Iranians and the Russians in arriving at a political solution in Syria, which we all prefer," al-Jubeir told a news conference in the Saudi capital Riyadh.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and three of his deputies will travel to Vienna, Iranian state news agencies said. It will be the first time that Tehran has been represented in international discussions on the Syrian crisis.

Iran says it supports a political solution in Syria, but says Assad should be part of the process. Opposition groups, and their regional backers including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey, say Assad must leave power as a precondition for peace.

Terrorism: International Conference, White House February 18 2015

The White House announced plans on Sunday for President Barack Obama to bring world leaders together in Washington to coordinate a global fight against home-grown extremism.

On Feb. 18, Obama will meet with local and foreign lawmakers to “highlight domestic and international efforts to prevent violent extremists and their supporters from radicalizing, recruiting, or inspiring individuals or groups in the United States and abroad to commit acts of violence,” the White House said, with specific references to the violence in Paris, a recent hostage situation in Australia and an attack on Canadian Parliament in a statement. All of the attacks mentioned have been connected in some way with the Islamic State terror group.

Dubbed the “Summit on Countering Violent Extremism,” the meeting is meant to educate American leaders and their counterparts abroad on ways of integrating law enforcement, mental health and religious leaders to curb violent activity.

The announcement comes just days after more than 2,000 people were killed by islamist militant group Boko Haram in Nigeria, and armed gunmen stormed the offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris, inciting three days of bloodshed that ended with 17 dead.

Iran and global powers end nuclear talks with cautious optimism

Two days of negotiations between global powers and Iran have ended with little to show for. But more discussions on Tehran’s nuclear program have been scheduled in a show of confidence building.

Emerging from two days of talks in Kazakhstan, EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton expressed cautious optimism. "I hope the Iranian side is looking positively on the proposal we put forward," Ashton said.

Diplomats from the so-called "P5+1" group of nations reportedly offered Tehran limited sanctions relief - such as the resumption of metal and gold trading and some international banking activity in return for Iranian agreement to curb its uranium enrichment program, which Security Council members believe is intended to create nuclear weapons.

Internet-wide Problem to Be Revealed at Black Hat Conference in Amsterdam April 14-17 - by Jeremy Kirk

Organizers of next week's Black Hat Europe conference in Amsterdam are promising a security presentation that could impact anyone who uses the Internet, but no details have been released yet. They say the presentation, due to take place April 16, will be as important as the one from security researcher Dan Kaminsky at a Black Hat's conference last July about a widespread flaw in the DNS (Domain Name System). Kaminsky's research prompted a massive, industry-wide effort to patch DNS servers vulnerable to a dangerous attack that could redirect Web surfers to fraudulent Web sites even if the URL (Uniform Resource Locator) was typed in correctly, among other attack scenarios.

Black Hat's Europe conference, in Amsterdam, will also feature cutting-edge presentations on security problems in Apple's OS X operating system, the OpenOffice.org productivity suite and SAP software. Also, six new vulnerabilities will be revealed, along with 12 tools for security pros.
