Another failed NATO (US) campaign ends for EU member states in Afghanistan. It is high time for EU member states to stop wasting their young men and womens lives, and their citizens taxpayers money, by being part of the outdated NATO. It would be far better to focus instead on more lucrative activities, like global trade, medical science, global warming, space, and a variety of other more peaceful actvities.

U.S. Calls on Taliban to End Violence as Terrorist Group Makes Gains Across Afghanistan
he United States and Western allies called on the Taliban to immediately end the violence in Afghanistan and show their commitment to the peace process on Eid al-Adha, the holy Islamic holiday that begins on Monday.
The joint statement from the U.S. and 13 other allies follows a week of heavy military advances from the Taliban across Afghanistan, as they capitalize on the last stages of the withdrawal of U.S. and other foreign forces from the country.
Note EU-Digest :A mens world? How come the US in these negotiations with the Taliban has no women as part of their delegation, while a lot in these negotiations with the Taliban has to do with the Taliban's degrading of basic Women's Rights as they did before this 20 year war started ?

Afghanistan: US withdrawal more than 90% complete, Pentagon says
Nearly 1,000 C-17 air freight loads of equipment have also been shipped out of the country.
The announcement comes several months after President Joe Biden said he would withdraw all US troops from the country by September 11. Other NATO countries are also moving forward with a military pullout from Afghanistan in coordination with the US.
Germany has withdrawn all troops from the country, with a German diplomat saying Tuesday that its consulate general in Mazar-i-Sharif in northern Afghanistan has been closed.

Afghanistan: What now to avoid disaster? - by Mohammad Ismail
Lets face it: NATO (US and its Atlantic Alliance partners) have lost their 20 year war against the Taliban, just like the Russians did before them. Apart from the tragic loss of lives during this time span, of not only US soldiers, but also many from the NATO European partner Nations, this disastrous war also wasted billions of Euros and US dollars of taxpayers money. Hopefully this military catastrophe will not be shovelled under the mat, and result in thorough investigations by the political establishments of the US and all NATO country member nations. Indeed the Afghanistan NATO mission has turned into another NATO disaster.

Britain - Boris Johnson Outfoxed: For Boris Johnson, Another Bad Day and Another Big Defeat in Parliament - by Stephen Castle
British lawmakers, capping what may be
one of the most abysmal starts any British leader has ever endured, on
Monday rejected Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s bid to hold a new
national election.

For Britain’s
bare-knuckled new prime minister, it was a day of defeat. Parliament’s
rejection of a snap election came as a new law went into effect on
Monday blocking Mr. Johnson from pursuing a “no deal” withdrawal from
the European Union.
Parliament is now
suspended until mid-October, the result of earlier political maneuvering
by the prime minister. But by Monday’s end, it seemed clear that if Mr.
Johnson had thought he could outfox Parliament by suspending it,
sidelining lawmakers at a critical moment in the Brexit debate, he was
the one who had been outmaneuvered.

US Presidential Elections: 2020 Loss to Trump Would Be Existential Crisis for Democrats - by Ed Kilgore
Now that it appears
Donald Trump may escape any immediate legal consequences from the
Mueller investigation, it’s time to take a fresh look at the trajectory
of his presidency.
Before
November 2016, there wasn’t a lot of agonized writing from the left of
center about the consequences of a Trump victory, for the obvious reason
that few observers thought it was a plausible scenario, even after his
improbable Republican nomination.
Yes, Hillary Clinton’s camp and
progressive (and many conservative) journalists bashed Trump’s
character, worldview, and sinister appeals to racism and sexism
regularly. But nobody saw much of a need for game-planning his
administration in any detail.

Britain - Brexit: British MPs reject Brexit deal by 391 to 242 despite May securing changes to backstop - by Alice Tidey & Rachael Kennedy
British lawmakers on Tuesday rejected May's Brexit deal for a second time with 391 votes against, 242 in favour.
MPs first rejected the deal on January 14 by a margin of 230, handing May the worst defeat of any sitting government in British parliamentary history.
The prime minister said immediately after the vote that MPs now face "an unenviable choice" and said she still believes that her deal is the best and only deal available.
May said if lawmakers backed a no-deal Brexit on Wednesday, it would become government policy.
A division list released by the Commons website shows that 75 Conservative MPs rebelled against May.
They were joined by 232 Labour MPs, 17 independent MPs, and every single MPs from Scotland's National party (35), the Liberal Democrats (11) and Northern Ireland's Democratic Unionist Party (10)
Bottom ine: the Brexit deal is clearly dead - and to make any sense of what the British really want, specially now the British Public has become more familiar with what breaking away from the EU and the Common Market would eventually mean to the economy and them, and the danger of becoming totally subservient to the US, is to have a second referendum.
This is the only way to stop this chaos, after the political establishment totally failed the people. It is high time to put the control of the future of Britain back in the hands of the British people, before the country implodes.

Britain - Brexit: Theresa May suffers three Brexit defeats in Commons -
Ministers have agreed to publish the government's full legal advice
on the deal after MPs found them in contempt of Parliament for issuing a
summary.
And MPs backed calls for the Commons to have a direct say in what happens if her deal is rejected next Tuesday.
Mrs May said MPs had a duty to deliver on the 2016 Brexit vote and the deal on offer was an "honourable compromise".
Mrs May was addressing the Commons at the start of a five-day debate on her proposed agreement on the terms of the UK's withdrawal and future relations with the EU.
The agreement has been endorsed by EU leaders but must also be backed by the UK Parliament if it is to come into force. MPs will decide whether to reject or accept it on Tuesday 11 December.

USA: Stinging LossFor Donald Trump in Alabama who Is Losing His Only Superpower - by Jeet Heer
Once it became clear that Doug Jones had won an upset victory over Roy
Moore in the Alabama senate race on Tuesday, the immediate question was:
How would the president take the news? Donald Trump, after all, was
deeply invested in the race to replace former Alabama Senator Jeff
Sessions. Elevating Sessions to attorney general seemed
like a safe move back in November of 2016. Alabama was a deep red state
where, in the presidential election a week earlier, Trump had won 62
percent of the vote to Hillary Clinton’s 34; and in the 2014 Senate
election, Sessions had won by a margin that even a communist dictator
would admire: 97 percent of the vote.
But as it turned out, Alabama was a double loss for Trump. First, Alabama Republicans rejected Trump’s choice for the primary, Luther Strange, who had been appointed to Sessions’s seat in the interim. Instead, they went with a gleaming-eyed, fanatical Moore, a candidate so Trumpian that even Trump blanched at supporting. But, amazingly, even after credible allegations of child molestation surfaced against Moore, Trump decided that he would support the theocratic candidate, spending his political capital in a rally in neighboring Pensacola, Florida.

USA: Republican effort to gut Obamacare ends in defeat for Trump - by Y.Abutaleb, A.Becker and D.Morgan
In a stinging blow to President Donald Trump, U.S. Senate Republicans
failed on Friday to dismantle Obamacare, falling short on a major
campaign promise and perhaps ending a seven-year quest by their party to
gut the healthcare law.
Voting in the early hours, three Republican senators, John McCain, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, crossed party lines to join Democrats in a dramatic 49-to-51 vote to reject a "skinny repeal" bill that would have eliminated some parts of Obamacare.
"This is clearly a disappointing moment," Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell told the Senate floor right after the vote. "The American people are going to regret that we couldn't find a better way forward."
The setback leaves Trump without a major legislative win after more than six months in power, even though Republicans control the White House, Senate and House of Representatives. He had been expected to make rapid changes to healthcare, taxes and infrastructure spending.

ISIS on the run in Syria as fighters flee from last territory on Turkish border - by Anthony Bond
Islamic State fighters in Syria have fled the battlefield having lost their last territory on the Turkish border.
Turkish-backed rebels on Sunday secured the area in northern Syria stretching from Azaz to Jarablus, pushing out Islamic State militants, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.
The move marks a substantial advance for an operation called Euphrates Shield, which started on August 24.
Turkish-backed rebels fighting under the loose banner of the Free Syrian Army have now taken the border town of Jarablus.

Belgium - The Battle of Waterloo June 18 - 1815 - Defeat or Victory?
![]() |
| Battle of Waterloo - June 18 1815 Wellington |
When it comes to our spiritual lives, some people feel that ultimate failure is inevitable and it’s only a matter of time until each of us will “meet our Waterloo.” But John refuted that pessimistic view when he wrote to followers of Jesus: “Everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith” (1 John 5:4).
John weaves this theme of spiritual victory throughout his first letter as he urges us not to love the things this world offers, which will soon fade away (2:15–17). Instead, we are to love and please God, “And this is what he promised us—eternal life”
While we may have ups and downs in life, and even some battles that feel like defeats, the ultimate victory is ours in Christ as we trust in His power..

Spanish election: PM Rajoy's party loses majority
Spain's governing conservative party
has won the most seats in the general election but has lost its
majority and must now try to form a coalition.
The liberal Ciudadanos party was in fourth place with 40 seats.
Podemos and Ciudadanos fielded national candidates for the first time, boosted by discontent among the electorate.
The PP and the Socialists have alternated running the government for more than three decades.
A spokesman for Podemos said the results showed that two-party politics in Spain had ended.
"We are entering a new era in our country," said Inigo Errejon.
Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy's PP needed 176 seats to form a majority. It had 186 seats in the outgoing parliament.
"I will try to form a government, a stable government," Mr Rajoy told PP supporters, after the final results were announced.

Britain: 10 Questions for the Labour Party - by David Held
Following a largely unexpected election defeat, David
Held poses 10 questions for the Labour Party with significance far
beyond Britain.
The UK general election was tumultuous and the results, particularly for Labour and the Liberal Democrats, disastrous. Of course, the position of Labour is better than that of the Liberal Democrats, but the combined fate of their decline is disheartening and disorienting for anyone on the centre- left.
The surprise and shock of the outcome to many was, of course, fuelled by the false trail of expectations led by the polls. But when all is said and done the results were seismic.
Into the chasm of failure have stepped would-be leaders with manifestos and numerous commentators, nearly all offering instant solutions that would push the party further to the left, centre or right. I have read countless attempts to tell the Labour party where they went wrong. The enemies of the party bask in the glow of these fragilities while everyone else seems to rush in with ready-made solutions.
The rush to provide instant solutions to tomorrow’s problems is mistaken and will not help rebuild the crumbled edifice of Labour. Instead, I think the failure of Labour raises some very important questions, which need to be thought through carefully.
This is a moment for deliberation about the key questions ahead; not a moment for false closure which will produce the semblance of a new direction without the foundations of one. The questions have to be right before answers sought.

Vietnam celebrates 40 years since the fall of Saigon
Vietnam is marking 40 years since the end of a war which killed at least three million of its citizens.
The country’s political and military powers attend a colourful parade in Ho Chi Minh City.
Formerly known as Saigon, the then capital of South Vietnam fell to the north in 1975, setting the wheels in motion for the nation’s reunification under Communist rule.
The Vietnam War was fought over more than two decades, following the
signing of the Geneva Accords in 1954, which divided the country in
two.
Guerillas in the US-backed south fought against the separation, helped by the Communist north.
US bombs were launched in 1964, followed by the arrival of its ground troops in ’65. They would continue fighting for a decade.
Some 58,000 American troops died during the conflict, dividing opinion on the country’s involvement.
The Paris Peace Accords officially ended US involvement in 1973, although fighting continued between the north and south until North Vietnamese troops rolled up to the presidential palace in Saigon, ending the war.
