Batch of cuteness

Xochi these updates are for you!
If you click on this pic you can see next to Rio's eye where he tried to gauge his eye out with a straw.
This is one of Rio's best faces yet! He does it all the time.
Belize warms up to Uncle Blair in 2 seconds. He has been doing some trips to Santa Barbara for work and we are lucky enough to have him drop by now and then. Belize LOVES it! He is already a professional Grandpa with 20 grandkids or so.
We found this cool SeaLab near our house. It's kind of like a community aquariam for rescued animals and they take you on a tour behind the scenes- and its FREE! Rio desperately tried to throw himself off Brannon's shoulders into the tanks.
Rio and his friend cute friend, Abbey playing at the beach!

Congratulations Laura & Elisha!

Moving to LA has been tough being away from our families but we've been able to get to know some wonderful a extended relatives we didn't know we were missing out on. Brannon's cousin, Laura got married a few weeks ago and it was beautiful. Belize tortured this poor girl (one of Elisha's nieces) by followering her around like a little puppy and poking her pretty sparkley dress. She was a good sport.

This picture was my favorite!
Tio Benito and Rio were two peas in a pod!

Rio's 9 month check-up at 10months old

I finally got Rio in for his 9 month appt. He weighs 21 lbs 12 oz and 29 inches long. That's 75% and 60%. And yesterday he said his FIRST WORD!!! "Uh oh." Is that a precurser of things to come?

Well, baby, I went down and got it for you.

A picture of Brannon just cause I love him and he looks super cool in his sunglasses. He's on his internal medicine rotation and we're enjoying his slightly less insane schedule. The blue bomber died (his Cannondale road bike) . . . tear! Actually, TEARS, because it was his only mode of transportation. So we are currently and obsessively looking on craigslist for a REALLY REALLY good steal. Eli (one of Bro's chiefs) is graciously letting us borrow his old bike. Thanks Eli you are a lifesaver! (and a pretty good looking astronaut, I'm not kidding, its really him in the video.)
Belize was introduced to the wonderful world of finger paint, she giggled the whole time.
The Ortons sent a package with this Tinkerbell nightgown. She calls it her, "Nattygale" and loves looking at it in the mirror.
This is Belize's new dancing face. I'm not quite sure why she thinks she should lift her eyebrows when she dances but its very entertaining. She's really into dancing to Taylor Swift music videos. Yes, I know its random.

My bad

The other day Belize sat on Rio. I told her she needed to have a time out and she said, "My bad, Mom." I know I post a lot of singing videos on the blog but it is so absolutely adorable when she sings, I can't help myself! She has also started making up her own songs which are hilarious but I haven't been able to catch it on video, last night she was singing at the top of her lungs (while she was supposed to be going to sleep), something about how she loved her cousins.

I did not teach the kids how to do this, it just happened, I swear!
Belize does this at least once or twice a day while we're eating except usually the, "You shouldn't have to go" is with much more vigor and occasionally drink spraying.
Here is the translation: "You shouldn't have to go! There are plenty for China!"

Early Stinker

Something disturbed my heavy slumber at 4am last night.

What is it this time? I think to myself:
a) the neighbors kitchen blinds banging on the frame in the wind
b) Rio crying for no reason in particular
c) Belize crying for some made-up excuse to get out of bed

I listen for a minute to confirm the cry. It's Belize so I assume its (C). Rio is a very light sleeper and wakes up if you but crack his door, so I turn into "Super Mom" and scramble lightening fast out of bed to Belize's side for fear her cry will start someone else's in a tragic domino effect.

"Mom, I'm hungry."

Really, you got me out of my MUCH NEEDED beauty sleep cause you're hungry? Everyone is hungry at 4am, ESPECIALLY if they barely ate their dinner.
"Belize, it's still night time and when you wake up in the morning you can eat breakfast."

The crying resumes.

(yelling in my mind) Be quiet girl! You're going to wake up your brother!!!!!
"Fine, fine, i'm getting you a graham cracker but while I'm gone, PLEEEESE don't cry"

I get her the graham cracker and then comes the line that will melt your heart but dread because you KNOW its coming:
"Will you sleep with me?"

Why do you have to use that cute little voice?
"Sure, but only for a minute."

I lay down and she snuggles next to me. My hand reaches to pull her in tighter and . . .
hmmmmm, her skin is so soft . . . just what IS my hand on? feels like . . .
I move my hand around . . . its a bare tush, oh no. I dreadingly feel around on the brand new mattress, its wet and cold.

"Belize did you take your pull-ups off?" (She has yet to master nights as apparent by this story and she's a deep sleeper, like unto myself).

"Yeah, and I put them on the floor."

Of COURSE, you did, that just makes sense. I see them lying neatly next to the bed. I move Belize, who by this point is wide awake and just happy to be up, and take off the blankets, then the fitted sheets and the water-proof blanket.

Wait a minute, did I say, water-proof blanket? My bad, I remembered in fine print on the package it did say water-resistant blanket. DANG IT. I feel the bed, that water "resistant" blanket must have been wet for hours because the bed is freezing and a little damp. (SO SORRY Mom and Dad, you can have the other one when we EVENTUALLY give it to you!!) I throw everything into the dirty clothes hamper, wipe Belize down with some wipes and give her a new pull-up. Whew! This is way more than one should exert themselves this early in the morning.

Belize tucked in tightly once again, I snuggle my face in hers for one last "kiss, hugs, noses".

"Mom, your breath stinks. You should brush them in the morning."

YOUR breath stinks AND you just peed your bed! Ha!
"Okay Belize, I love you, good night." I leave, feeling a little dejected and upappreciated for this night time fiasco.

And as I'm closing the door I hear softly,
"Mom, you're the best."

Awwwwwww! That girl knows how to get me . . . and I'm glad she recognizes superior when she see's it. :)

I smile to myself and roll back onto my pillow.

These past few weeks have been full of ups and downs so i've delayed posting and of course, I'm realizing now that I've forgotten all the things I wanted to write. So here is the best I can recall:

One kid sleeping in a stroller . . .
Another kid sleeping in a stroller . . .
Hold the phone- that's 2 kids sleeping in the SAME stroller!!! This is the new prized gem of the Orton household- behold, the Phil and Ted!!!! This stroller has been life changing and I'm being serious. On this particular trip, both kids fell asleep in the car 5 MINUTES before we got home but I was able to preserve their naptime and its all thanks to Phil and Ted. I can't tell you how dreamy I think this thing is! And the kids like it too! :)We always check on Belize before we retire to bed (not on Rio cause the little stinker wakes up the second you open the door) and the other night we COULDN'T find her!!!! We checked under the blankets, in the closet, under the bed, etc. We started searching the house and low and behold found her asleep on Dad's pillow. She was so sneaky and quiet we didn't even notice her open her door. She is so precious when she's sleeping!
Rio has recently started to very cleary express himself. He's a boy who knows what he wants and he is getting a lot better at letting you know what that is through motions and the hilarious faces he makes.
This was taken on a short hike to Abalone Cove. We hear they have really neat tide pools where you can touch the animals but the tide was in that day. It was nice/hot anyways.
All day yesterday Belize made me call her Ariel, Rio -King Tritan, and guess who I was? . . Guppy. And whenever I messed up she was sure to correct me. Really? Guppy? Can't I even get a Flounder?!
And one more funny face for good measure, this means, "This food is good, i want more!"
On a more serious note:
A very scary thing happened last week: Belize came into the living room screaming (not unusual) and started crying to me about the window, etc. So I ask her to show me what she's talking about. In Rio's room she had gotten up on the desk, pushed everything over and pushed on the window screen. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but she did succeed in pushing the window screen all the way out and it fell 3 stories onto the asphault below. She might have almost fallen, I'm not sure. The only way I can write about this now is that I've had a week to emotionally pull it together. And what I can say is this: I know without a single doubt, with every fiber of my soul that the Lord is watching over our family. I want thank all of you for your prayers and happy thoughts for us in California if not for this one moment in time that it truly counted. I am so grateful to Heavenly Father for protecting my sweet little girl, I love her so much. All of our others challenges seem miniscule to me and I hope that this experience continues to put me in perspective when I am worried about all the other little things that life throws at me. I am determined to be a better mother, a more supportive wife and a more faithful follower of my Savior, Jesus Christ. And yes, I WILL give a hug to Belize from you - everyday . . . and Rio too.

PS Brannon built cages for all of the windows and now it would take a skill saw and a crowbar to get out (even Belize isn't that good, we hope).
