More than cupcakes!

Have you ever read the book, "I love you this much." Super cute! Well, in our Orton adaptation to spread love and joy in our house we also compete at who loves each other more. It usually involves some kind of food. For example:

"I love you more than cookies!"
"Well, I love you more than birthday cake!"
"No, I love you more than candy!"

You get the idea.

Today after an incident at the grocery store that I do not wish to re-live on this blog or anywhere for that matter, Belize was in BIG trouble. After resolving our issues at home, we both apologized to each other and told each other how much we loved each other. Then I told her that her Heavenly Father loves her more than anything to which she responded, "Does He loves me more than cupcakes?"

Yes, Belize, He does (although He probably does enjoy a good cupcake now and then), I know it with my soul.

Morning conversation

Belize's dog flashlight is broken and today when she jumped off her chair she landed on the head part, hurting her foot. She then found me and well, this is what transpired:

B: Mom, can Dad fix my dog tomorrow?

M: I can fix it!

B: Mom, you're not a very good fixer.

M: I could try.

B: You're not a doctor, you know.

M: Really?

B: Well, I hope you don't trip and fall on the shopping cart and bonk your head!

I guess if I tripped and bonked my head on the shopping card, Dad could fix me tomorrow night.
Lesson learned: Don't bring 1 & 3 year olds to weddings, its just not right. Albert, one of Brannon's co-ortho residents got married this summer in Hawaii and finally got to have his reception here. For the record he did invite the kids so we were naively excited to get out of the house and go to a dinner at a restaurant. It was late and this is a picture of Belize after she put her FINGER IN THEIR WEDDING CAKE!!!!!!! - nuff said. period. (Sorry Albert! - No, we didn't tell them, hopefully he and Marie went blind from having their picture taken and didn't see the huge finger swipe in the very front of the cake when together they symbolically partook of their first joint venture- we didn't wait to find out and promptly fled the premises.) My marital advice to the happy couple - "Children can make a mess of joint ventures."

Sad news :(

The ocean swallowed our camera. Boring story but basically its my fault that the ocean has my most prized possession, the recorder of our most precious memories. Luckily, since I'm caught up blogging, almost no pictures were lost. Sad news is that the blog will be lacking until further notice.

P.S. The kids are still cute and we still live in California.

1st party!

Finally here are the party details! The week prior to Rio's birthday Belize and I had some serious illness so we decided (I decided) to postpone the party. So on Thursday we had our Californian friends over- the Harmons (church), the Schwars (neighbors), the Jagers (church) and the Lowes (internet friends). There were 8 kids!! They almost out numbered adults, this is a big contrast to Belize's 1st birthday where there were only 2 kids and probably 20 adults. Kidless friends are dropping like flies (and having kids I mean). I had an easy time coming up with a theme because two of Rio's favorite things are balloons and balls. I wish I had captured his face when he woke up Thursday morning and saw the decorations- priceless! We still have them up. Here are the invitations:
The decor, plus 12 beach balls i picked up on sale all over the floor.
The party started at 6:00 and as if on cue the boy got tired (it WAS his party and he can cry if he wants to).
Earlier in the day we went to the hospital to pick up THIS!!!!
Holy smokes it was the biggest pinata I've ever seen. One of Brannon's patients got it for him in Tijuana because he found out it was his son's birthday. I didn't think I would be very enthused about a piñata at a one year olds birthday party. But then I shut my mouth as soon as I saw the kid's faces light up!
Rio was soooo tired, he kept cuddling his head into my lap- I didn't mind- who wouldn't?
My SON- my SON!!!! eating a grape.
"Mom! I wasn't going to tell you but someone put this marvelous messy piece of heaven on my tray and well, I was HAD to eat it. Wait! You knew this was going to happen? and didn't tell me?"
Wah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Best day EVER!!!!!
They are red velvet balloons- okay? It was hard! And next to them are these cute little brie and jam pastries, haven't I mentioned how much I am in LOVE with brie- I can't imagine a bad day if brie was involved somehow!
Rio's eye on the prize.
Belize's eye on the prize. She did succeed in blowing out the candle but in a big sister helping sort of way. Brannon wants to entitle this picture Arian nation. ("2 of these kids is not like the other, 2 of these kids just isn't the same")
I also made a bombe for the adults, chocolate mousse filled you can't be wrong!
Brannon INSISTED that he buy candy and stuff the piñata. The kids sure did enjoy getting some good old fashioned aggression out. The only one who did not participate was Rio, he was getting a bath and then went to sleep.
12 hours later, Rio pooped the most bright red poop I've ever seen, it even dyed his uh- well, you can imagine- cherry apple red!!! (from the cupcakes).

And THEN 8 hours after that Belize threw up the most bright red vomit I've ever seen, it even dyed her - sheets, yes sheets- cherry apple red! (again, from the cupcakes.)
I'm think I'll call it a Red Velvet day, and I don't think I'll be making red velvet anything for a long while.

I had the best day with you, today.

Last Monday was one of those perfect days, few and far between these days, but I'm here to testify that they do indeed exist! Brannon had the day off (and was rested) so we decided to Fall it up and go to the pumpkin patch down the road (a parking lot with hay). The whole day was glorious, everyone was in a good mood and we had lots of fun together.
Laughing at a birthday card the Ortons sent to Rio that plays the song, Wipe out.

Nothing phases Belize, I don't think there has been anything yet she's been truly afraid of. She likes "scary" things. And these scarecrows were freaky looking!

Doesn't he look like a little boy?
Belize was enraptured with the pony ride, I told her no (they were $6.75 and the ponies looked so sad, Brannon argues otherwise) and then she and Brannon disappeared and Belize reappeared on a pony. He is so completely smitten. I had to laugh when he told me when he bought the tickets she exclaimed in her sweetest most excited voice, "Oh THANK YOU daddy!"

We made some new friends!

Then for the first time in our 6 years of marriage, Brannon made dinner (not including porridge, egg bread, or tuna salad). He used his Dad's recipe for Tomato soup (not even a real recipe, touch and go) and it was HEAVEN! I came home a hot meal and handsome husband waiting for me, it was divine! Thanks babe, it was the best EVER!!!!!

And then Belize carved her 1st pumpkin! She got to choose what it looked like and had lots of fun pulling out the guts and popping out the eyes. Can a day get any better? I think not.

Rio is one!

My baby boy is one years old! I don't recall being sad when Belize turned one, it was more like, phew! But I'm having a hard time with Rio turning into a little boy, he was such a wonderful baby- still is. Okay, I guess he'll always be my baby so I should just stop whining. I have yet to make a doctor's appointment for his year visit so I don't have the stats but this is my boy in a nut shell:

-Rio is a walking maniac, he's getting pretty speedy now so we have to be lightning quick shutting the bathroom doors because some of his favorite things to do are to put things or hands in the toilet and crawl in the standing shower (also, playing with the toilet bowl cleaners).
-His usual activities include walking/wondering around the house all day, eating, and following either Belize or I around.
-He's has 8 teeth now! And will eat anything except bananas and french toast.
-He goes to bed at 7:00, sleeps through the night and takes 2 one hour naps a day.
-He's loosing his thunder thighs. :(
-He says momma now and makes the sign for milk and all done. He loves to scream and laugh and has a weird deep chuckle too. And apparently he really likes Moose tunes (jammed out in the car yesterday)- thanks Aunt Thomi!
-If he catches someone smiling at him, he lights up like a Christmas tree- his smile is so contagious!
-The other day he got into the garbage can and spread red velvet cupcake (more about those later) wrappers all over the couch and carpet (I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth) so I snapped a little at him. He cried then found an old wipe and sat next to me wiping the carpet with it (I just cried writing this, he is SO sweet!).
-I never fully understand the term "momma's boy" until I met Rio. I love him with all of my
heart. He is bursting at the seams with joy. He gives big slobbery buhs to his parents and sister and recently he's been giving hugs too. I melt every time I see that little grinning face. I can't imagine our lives without him, he is my baby boy!Click on the picture above for some serious cuteness!
The day before Rio's birthday we went to the Original Pancake house to celebrate, I think we're going to make it a tradition, SUPER yummy!
Rio's Abuelo & Abuela got him this super cool dump truck and he loves it, he's such a boy already.

He is so proud of himself for doing things that Belize does, and awh, this fall sweaters kill me!
Happy birthday Bubba!

Belize update

This is her "castle", note one arm is out of her dress, that's because its a "dancing" dress. Belize is a month shy of three years old. She is a kick in the pants. She is always making us laugh with the funny little things she says and her sweetness. She still likes Peter and the wolf, classical music, and any song by Taylor Swift (Fearless is on constant play in our car) and is obsessed with dancing.
Her dexterity is improving and she started drawing faces the other day. She is getting really good at making up songs about whatever she's doing and she's getting very curious and asks lots of questions.
This is one of her favorite things to do with her Dad. LOOK at that FACE!! (heart melting)
Yesterday morning she crawled in my bed at 6AM-I feigned sleeping. She whispers, one inch from my face, "Mom? I love you. I love you soooooo much." I keep "sleeping" to see where this is headed. "Are you alive?" I keep still. "Ah, man!" At this point, my laughing in my head travels to my mouth. Who says, "Ah man!" after they just discover that their mom is not alive- apparently my Belize does. I love that girl!
She is excellent at waiting, especially for a two year old, the other day she waited 3 hours to eat a peep on the table (she did ask me 5 times but she waited til I gave the okay). She and Rio are finally starting to really play together, as in they ENTERTAIN EACH OTHER!!!!! She really likes making him crack up (which truth be told, isn't that difficult :)) And I guess I forget to mention everyday things like she talks A LOT, she is still the most active little girl I've ever met, and she doesn't walk- she runs! We also started reading the scriptures at night, I was skeptical because its hard to maintain her attention span but she listens the whole time, even though I'm sure she doesn't understand half the words. Just goes to show you, children really can teach you eternal principles.

Michelle!

Michelle deserves a post all to herself because she is so very wonderful. Michelle is one of my dearest friends from Seattle, we worked at Children's hospital together and I can't sing her praise enough- she's awesome! She covered my butt whilst I threw up in bathrooms and took naps in patient's rooms while I was pregnant with Belize- need I say more? But I will- she's just one of those friends you can call when you are having a bad day and she'll come over and just being with her makes you feel instantly better. Or if you ever need a shopping buddy- she is always game! I love this girl!
Michelle only got to come for a few days and so what did we do? Belize and I got sick- good timing huh? Michelle was a trooper and puttered around our house with us, helping me with the kids - see I told you she was a good friend, and NO you can't have her, I WON'T share, I WON'T. The picture above is the only night I was feeling decent, we haphazardly made our way up to Santa Monica to the 3rd Street promenade for window shopping and scrumptious crepes. Below are pictures from King harbor, the pier in Redondo beach.

Belize was yelling, "CHEESE!"

Michelle, please come again! And we promise this time we'll try not to be sick.
