Learning to learn...again

It's my first week of school!
Never thought I'd say that again.

Have I not announced it, yet?
Probably because I can't decide if i'm excited or not.
Don't get me wrong, I am all in.
But, totally dread the papers (APA format, blah!), 34927 chapters to read and most of all...Research (gag).
But, I do look forward to being a Nurse Practitioner!

I know that there are parts that I will dread, but mostly i'm thrilled at this opportunity to further my career.
Nerdily(yes, it's a word) enough, I am really eager to learn and gain more knowledge so that I do a better job of taking care of people.
It's what I'm here for.

My classes are all on-line, until we get to the clinical portion.
Has anyone ever taken online course?
It's a bit unnerving. Not seeing my teachers, keeping up with it all myself!

We are all meeting tomorrow for 1 class to get more oriented to the online thing and our program.
So, of course i'm packed and ready with my binders, pens, pencils and first day of school outfit!
Didn't you just love first day of school outfit and then could hardly ever get out of bed in time to put on anything decent the following mornings. Or was that just me?
Luckily, most of the time I can learn in my pjs if i want. hooray!

So, here we go! I'm on my way!!!

Kate (your future FNP! eek!)

A few things

A few things

1. I work prn(as needed) at the hospital. I get to make my own schedule. I highly recommend it. Therefore...some weeks I work a lot(and don't have time/energy to blog). Some weeks I can work very little and spend time with family for the holidays and blog! I'm thankful for both kinds of weeks

 2. Sometimes I hate being a woman. When I say sometimes, I mean 12 weeks out of the year.(sorry guys,but that's life)

 3. Beau will be here Tomorrow!!!!

 4. We still love our home
and the fireplace

 5. I'm currently working on perfecting the art of fire-building. And GTs perfecting the art of patience with me whilst i perfect the fire-building art.
Both are proving rather time-consuming and challenging. I'm rather grateful for the latter.
Luckily, our heater works well and we won't freeze in the meantime.

6. I've been training for this weekend.
Running 5 miles a day? nah
yoga 3x a week? nerp
eating everything in sight? you bet your bottom dollar
I'm fully prepared for the food that will greet me starting tomorrow night and am willing and eager to devour it.
Brang it on Holiday food.

7. that'll do for now

here's to a night of Home Alone and pizza with my lover.

Shark attack

Isn't this photo incredible? Such a different perspective...not that I have many perspectives of sharks. One via a camera lens will do.

Shooting over/under photos is a fun alternative to just shooting underwater. The use of the over/under water camera for this shot is perfect—it highlights the tension inherent in any shot of a shark in the water. Seeing this view of both the water's placid surface and the creatures lurking below makes me feel like a swimmer at the surface with my legs dangling below. The closeness of one of the sharks, and its size, adds to the drama. The contrast is also emphasized by the beautiful turquoise sea and puffy white clouds. It's not easy to get these over/under shots, and one needs to shoot many frames and be well positioned close to the fish.—

Live from the Dominican

So, I'm in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic using wifi at a nice hotel on a mission trip. Don't worry(those of us who think one has to physically suffer to do good mission work), we will be leaving in the morning to travel to the small town of Neyba where we will conduct the VBS and medical clinic this week and spend time with the kids at the orphanage that WFR supports.
There is no wifi, electricity is inconsistent and a/c is a rare blessing. Feel better?

I feel very blessed to be presented with the opportunity to do medical missions. That is where my passion lies and really the reason that I am a nurse. But, sometimes when I plan 2 trips out of the country within 2 weeks... I miss my man.
He supports me and understands my heart. That is why I am here. But, it'd be better if he were here.

The only thing that I can find on tv that is in English/acceptable is this. Live from the Artist Den: David Gray. I'm more than ok with that.

Ive been reading this great book that mom bought for me.
Fun read. I enjoy reading about people that are self-sufficient and make it through hard times and utilize their resources. The Amish, Pioneers, etc. I don't know what kind of person that makes me, but I love learning about how to provide for yourself and how others have lived through pretty rough circumstances. So, this book is perfect for me! Thanks mammy!

This speaks to me

Don't ask me why.
I'm an the ICU working. Third day, 7am-7pm.
This picture shouldn't even be saying "hi" to me, but nevertheless, it speaks.
Btdubs, what kind of word is nevertheless? What does it really mean? Kind of like same difference.

Anywhoo, this photo is pretty and I wanna do that. Whatever it is that she's doing. And wear her skirt.

Although, scrubs are a pretty sweet gig when it comes to work-wear. Twirly skirts might be more fun. Only if I could be barefoot.

That's all. (no clue the source on this pic)

Happy weekend eve wodies,
Kate

I'm off to Dominican Reoublic at 6am!

humbled

we had our hamburger cookout yesterday evening before church.
it was to raise money for my trip with TouchaLife this summer to the Village of Hope in Ghana.

it went so great!
i'm overwhelmed with the support we received and completely humbled.
it's strange that when people show their support for your dreams, in return you feel humbled.
you think when so many people demonstrate thier love, you'd feel pretty proud.
not at all.

thankful is an inadequate word. but it'll do.

of course, we served lots of sweet tea

my boo grilled lots of burgers in the heat

my mamaws worked hard. without me even asking.
they just showed up and started doing

the conga line. or food line

some of the supporters

more of 'em

the kiddos playing by the grill.
we thought that through, huh?

more family

none of this would've happened if it weren't for this guy.
i told GT a few months ago that i wasn't going to go to Ghana because it was just too much money.
sure, we could pay for it, but it would make a pretty big dent.
he didn't take that for one second.
he replied...kate, of course you're going. this is why you do what you do. you love medical missions and helping kids. of course you're going.
and that was that.
he said, we'll have a dinner to raise money. i'll cook hamburgers/bbq and people who want to help, will help.

i love my husband.
i'm grateful for his support of my heart.

i can't wait to see what this trip has in store. and thankful that people wanted to help.
this world is way bigger than me and it's nice to be reminded of that.

happy weekend eve,
Kate

HUF

lately i've been thinking and dreaming alot about my summer of 2005.
i spent the summer galavanting around studying abroad in Florence, Italy.
Dream.

Ever since I came back, I dreamed of returning. As i get older though, and time passes, i realize just how awesome of an opportunity that was. why didn't i fully see that then? i think i would've done things differently. you know...really cherished every moment.
maybe, maybe not.
spending a summer in europe. with 30 other kids my age. in an old tuscan villa. free traveling all over europe.
HELLO!!! that's a big deal.
Although I did take full advantage of my travel opportunities, i am starting to realize just how wesome it was.

this is one of my favorite pics from the entire summer.
we're in southern italy somewhere (this is where i would've done better. i can't remember the names of where we traveled...probably should've written them down, huh?)

its a great portrayal of our college lives at that time.
completely carefree and in state of ecstasy

 ec·sta·sy (kst-s)
n. pl. ec·sta·sies
1. Intense joy or delight.
2. A state of emotion so intense that one is carried beyond rational thought and self-control:

exactly.

i will go back. and take my bff with me.
we will explore and learn more about this beautiful world and incredible architecture and history and other cultures.
GT and I will conquere Europe together.
Someday.

my soul yearns for it.

thanks for listening to my day dreams,
Kate

my 10 reflections on the Royal shin-dig

1. i wonder if Kates face is still hurting. that's a waaayyy long time to smile for gillions of people.

2. is harry the cutest? or what? but totally in that little brother kind of way. totally.

3. can i be a princess? or a duchess? or whatever Kate is?

(withouth having to kiss William?)
poor Will. at least he is a prince and has Kate.

4. i think the queen is going to live forever.

5. how many girls born this year will be named Catherine Elizabeth?
p.s. my mom almost named me that. but, lets be honest...i'd be called Katie Beth...it's only naturally southern.
there will also probs be many Kate dolls made this year. She was perfect.

6. when did they find time to go to the bathroom?

7. i'm thankful for the British. mostly for obnoxious hats and accents. and the Beckhams.

8. the car almost fascinated me as much as kates dress. almost.

i've never seen glass that clear.

9. that is the longest aisle EVER. ever. i never even teared up. i lost all emotion by 100 yards. usually i'm a baby at weddings when the bride heads down the aisle.

10. but, i did tear up when Kate got out of the car. who didn't? she was breathtaking.

a bonus thought.
Kates family is beautiful.
Pippa. stunning. and her dress!!!
Kates parents. perfectly dressed and so handsome together!

all photos courtesy of the Today Show website

Mom and I watched the wedding 18 hours after it aired. But, it was still just as magical.
Who doesn't love a royal wedding? a Royal Wedding y'all!

It was all more beautiful than I thought.
Longer than I thought.
But, beautiful.

holla,
Kate (not the Royal one)

The day that changed our lives forever

I almost forgot.

Yesterday, April 18th, marks the date that I met my boyfran.
ain't he cute. that double plaid thing is hard to resist.
such a refreshing style.

one of our first photos together. pretty accurate prediction of our relationship.

our witnesses to our new love

the match making group.
actually just the cute girl on the end and her hubsters(he's the one with a pink lei). The Cones

can't you just see it in our eyes? (please ignore my awkward britches)

this is when GT asked me to marry him
j/k. but i did really like him by this point. it was probably the killer dance moves he was pulling off.

a perfect first date, i'd say.

I'm thankful for that Saturday in Frisco, Tx at Pizza Hut Park.
I'm thankful for Jimmy Buffett and his music and the ridiculous crowd it gathers.
I'm thankful for the Cones, Lauren and Patrick. They knew a match when they saw it and made it happen.
I'm thankful for the past 2 years with my man. We've been together since the minute we met.
He's a keeper and my favorite person in the whole world.
I'm thankful that he liked me back.

Here's some JB to send you on your way.
If you want to hear more about how much I love my boo, you can ask. I'll spare everyone else.

Fins up!
Kate
