One of These Things is Not Like the Other
Share six non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself. Tag six people and at the end of your post, link to their blogs. The twist here is, one of the statements is a lie! You have to guess which one and let me know in comments.

I flunked home economics.

I like to sleep on the couch.

I was in a fist fight.

I own a motorcycle.

I'm afraid of heights.

I studied French for three years.

Now, who to tag? I'm picking on Lori, Holly, Izzy, Rosie, Kristie, and Cindy. Have fun, ladies :-)

7 Things Meme
Lori , that lovely lady, tagged me for the 7 things meme. I'm a little delinquent in getting this posted. A warning ~ this is boring and mundane, but here goes:

1. I am an obsessive researcher. Currently, I am trying to learn everything I can about Savannah and am reading the Frommer's book on it right now ~ not to mention I have "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" requested from the library. Not normally my usual read, but we'll see.

2. I'm addicted to cookbooks, but rarely use them. I like to create my own meals and am, in fact, a dumper. You know ~ a little of this, a little of that until it tastes the way you want it.

3. I'm still trying to combine the "reader me" with the "healthy me". I even created a diet blog to keep me here in blogger land. I still need to realize that the two do not have to be mutually exclusive.

4. I'm a slob. I admit it and I hate it, but there it is.

5. I snort when I laugh. Bad. Not as bad as Horseshack, but I always end my laugh with a good snort. I used to hate it. Now I just accept it. Oh, and I laugh loud, like my mother. That used to embarass me as a child ~ now it just embarasses my niece. And can you imagine the poor thing being stuck between my mother and me??? Again, poor thing.

6. I have to have noise in the background so that I can sleep. Thank God for timers so I don't burnup my tv :-) Really, without the noise I can't sleep.

7. I'm a caregiver. I take care of everybody. My mom, my sister, my nieces, my friends...I'm the "go-to" girl. And it doesn't stop. I even do that at my job ~ my boss has mentioned it on more than one occassion that I make it my life to take care of everybody. I'm not sure how to change that. It's just automatic.

I need to tag 7 people. I'll tag Izzy, Nath, Rosie, Jodi, Wena, Cindy, and Jen.

Makin' Whoopie (aka Getting in Touch with my Inner Harlot)
I stole this from Giselle so I had something to post on an early Sunday morning.

Ten Literary characters I'd like to make out with:

1. Sam Donovan (Linda Howard's Mr. Perfect). Because he's a good guy with a touch of bad boy inside. And he's got a wicked sense of humor.
2. Sebastian Lord St Vincent (Lisa Kleypas's Devil in Winter). Because he's not the bad guy everybody thinks he is. And he's gorgeous. Oh, and read pages 241-242 and then don't include him on your list. I dare you.
3. Fitzwilliam Darcy (Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice). Because he'll move heaven and earth to take care of the people he loves (and the people they love).
4. Colin Bridgerton (Julia Quinn's Romancing Mr. Bridgerton). Because who doesn't want the man they've been secretly in love with all her life to fall in love with her?
5. Sebastian Lord Dain (Loretta Chase Lord of Scoundrels). Enough said.

***This shouldn't be so hard. I'm single and desperate. I should be satisfied with any fictional man in my top 10.***

6. Marquis of St. Aubyn aka "Saint"(Suzanne Enoch's London's Perfect Scoundrel). He's not the bad boy he pretends to be.
7. Ben McKinnon (Nora Robert's Montana Sky). He's a tough rancher with a heart of gold. He's tough when he needs to be and wears tender really well.
8. Ranger (Janet Evanovich's Plum Series). He's mysterious but is always around when you need him. And I love when he says "Babe".
9. Drake Rivington (Sandra Brown's Eloquent Silence). He loves completely and is a genuine good guy, once he lets his guard down.
10. Viscount Anthony Bridgerton (Julia Quinn's The Viscount Who Loved Me). He's good to laugh with and fun to look at. And the whole fun-to-laugh-at factor.

Now it's your turn. Go forth and list your top 10.

TV Meme
Jen tagged me on this one.

What are your top five favorite television shows when you were a kid?

1. Little House on the Prairie
2. Donny and Marie
3. The Brady Bunch
4. The Facts of Life
5. Hazel

Who didn't love Little House on the Prairie? I still watch it. My favorite episode ever, of course, was Sweet Sixteen when Manly finally looked at Laura as something other than his young friend. I may have the episode memorized, but it still makes me giddy :D

Donny and Marie were my ultimate favorite growing up. I could not miss an episode. My father only ever let me watch it at his house once and that was out of pity. My mom, sister, and I were riding our bikes from Mom's house to Chuck's (my father). About a block or so after leaving the house, I remember taking my hands off the handlebars.........and then I fell asleep. I kid you not. I did not wake up until I was around the corner from Chuck's house, and that was only because I'd ridden my bike into the back of a parked truck. Skinned up the whole side of my face. But, on the upside, I got to lay on the couch with an ice pack on my face and watch my favorite tv show of all time. The things we do in order to watch good tv, hm?

I was in love with Peter from The Brady Bunch. I loved the rest of the family too, but Peter was it for me. I was smitten. I don't really watch this anymore, but sometimes I'll catch a rerun now and then. But I loved it enough back in the day that I ran away from Chuck's house one night because he wouldn't let me watch it. Went to Mom's. She didn't let me watch it either.

Was there any teenage girl in the 80s who didn't watch The Facts of Life? Blair, Tootie, Natalie, and Jo. They were my girls, and Mrs. Garrett was an awesome caretaker for them. I wish they still showed reruns of this ~ I'd watch it everytime.

I always watched classic tv at night before I went to bed. That's how I met Hazel, the maid. I loved this show. Hazel was a spunky domestic goddess and I looked forward to seeing her everyday.

I tag Nath, Ames, and Jen.

Rules: List your favorite 5 television shows from your childhood, name three more bloggers to do this meme, copy/paste these very short and sweet rules, and then leave said bloggers a comment letting them know you have tagged them!

Desktop Meme
Ames tagged me on this one. (Thank you, btw ~~ I was wondering what I was going to post about between now and when I finished Eclipse). This is my work desktop ~ my home one is much better (kiddo made it for me).

Work:

Here's how you play:

A. Upon receiving this tag, immediately perform a screen capture of your desktop. It is best that no icons be deleted before the screen capture so as to add to the element of fun. You can do a screen capture by going to your desktop and pressing the Print Scrn key (located on the right side of the F12 key). Open a graphics program (like Picture Manager, Paint, or Photoshop) and do a Paste (CTRL + V).If you wish, you can “edit” the image, before saving it.

B. Post the picture in your blog. You can also give a short explanation on the look of your desktop just below it if you want. You can explain why you preferred such look or why is it full of icons. Things like that.

C. Tag five of your friends and ask them to give you a Free View of their desktop as well.

D. Add your name to this list of Free Viewers with a link pointing directly to your Desktop Free View post to promote it to succeeding participants.

I am going to tag:

Middle Name Meme
Jen at Life on the Mountain tagged me for the Middle Name Meme.

Here are the rules:
1. You have to post these rules before you give the facts.
2. Players, you must list one fact that is somehow relevant to your life for each letter of your middle name. If you don’t have a middle name, use the middle name you would have liked to have had.
3. When you are tagged you need to write your own blog post containing your own middle name game facts.
4. Choose a person for each letter of your middle name to tag to do a meme and don't forget to leave them a comment telling them they have been tagged!

My middle name is Marie.

M: My middle name is for my grandmother ~ all first born granddaughters in my family were given the middle name Maire.

A: Auntie is the most important job I'll ever have.

R: Rush hour traffic really, really stinks (couldn't think of anything more creative).

I: Infatuations are hard. Especially when you're 38, single, and haven't dated in 8 years.

E: Endless piles of books in my TBR do not make me happy. Well, they make me happy ~ just wish I could read them :-)

I'm not quite sure who to tag because I've been so behind in my blog lately ~ I guess anyone who wants to do it that hasn't yet ~ tag, you're it!

Tagged by Izzy
I was tagged by Izzy and am finally getting around to posting (sorry, Izzy!).

First tag, 6 Weird Things About Me

1) I have to eat food in order. What I mean by that is, say for example I have salad, potatoes, and steak for dinner. I have to eat all of my salad before I move on to my potoes; I then have to eat all of my potatoes before I move on to my steak. And so on and so on.
2) I think the ugliest thing on a man's body is his legs. I don't know why ~ I just think they're ugly. It's very rare when I see a man's legs that I like.
3) My teeth tingle when I drink. And I know I've had too much when my lips go numb.
4) I read the end of a book before I start it. I know, I've posted about it before. But I get teased a lot for it.
5) I'm picky on what I eat mayo on and what I eat miracle whip on. Some people are either or. I'm both. I won't eat deviled eggs made with mayo ~ it has to be made with miracle whip. Same with ham sandwiches. I won't eat turkey sandwiches with miracle whip ~ it has to be mayo. Same with tuna sandwiches.
6) Summer is my least favorite season. I much prefer spring or fall. Actually, winter would be my favorite if I didn't have to drive on the icy roads.

The rules: List six weird things about you. Then choose six people to tag and list their names. Don't forget to leave a comment that says you are tagged in their comments

I tag: I tag: Lori, Daniella, Jen, Jen, Stacy, Rosie

Favorite Christmas Songs

My 5 favorite Christmas songs are:

1) The Little Drummer Boy (duet by Bing Crosby & David Bowie)
2) Joy to the World by Nicholas Jonas
3) O Holy Night by Josh Groban
4) There's Something Stuck Up In the Chimney by Bob Rivers
5) Celebrate Me Home by Kenny Loggins

The rules: List your 5 favorite Christmas songs. Then choose five people to tag and list their names. Don't forget to leave a comment that says you are tagged in their comments!

Grab That Book
1. Grab the nearest book.

2. Open to page 123.

3. Find the fifth sentence.

4. Post the text of the next four sentences on your blog along with these instructions.

5. Don't you dare dig around for that "cool" or "intellectual" book on your shelves. (I know you were thinking about it.) Just pick up whatever is closest.

Can you guess my book?

"Was Wynn upset?"

What could he say? "He didn't let on if he was." In fact, once they'd left the store, Wynn seemed to find the incident highly amusing.

I tag Holly, Izzy, Kristie, Dylan, and Jodi ~ and anyone else who wants to do this.

5 Truths
I got tagged by Kristie to tell 5 truths.

1. I sometimes think I'm destined to spend my life alone. Not that it's a bad thing ~ being along has it's advantages. I mean I come home, I get to watch what I want to watch, I don't have to fight anyone for the use of the computer (unless my niece is visiting), and any messes I clean are my own (again, unless my niece is visiting). But sometimes, I come home and the house is so quiet and I'd give almost anything to have someone to share that space with. Just someone to enjoy the quiet with would be wonderful ~ just to sit, to hold, to touch, to look, to laugh....

2. I'm an introvert. Really. I'm not all that good with people. I hate crowds and I don't like being the center of attention. I'd much rather be home. I turn down a lot of invitations to just stay home with a warm cup of tea and a good book. Which, if you think about it, is probably why I had to list #1.

3. I hate election time. I've blogged about this before. I'll be so glad when elections are over. Truthfully, I don't think the whole thing would bother me so much if there wasn't so much negativity involved. Instead of the negative ads focusing on what a bad person your opponant is ~ why not focus on the good you can do? I don't get it and it just pisses me off.

4. I sometimes wish I lived somewhere else. I'd love a chance to start a whole different life somewhere else. And technically I'm a free agent, but I'm extremely close to my family and don't want to leave them. My niece is the only child I'm ever going to have and I don't want to miss a minute with her. But I'd love to live anywhere else ~ New York, Minneapolis, San Antonio, Boston.

5. I'd love to own my own business. My two loves are reading and cooking ~ I'd love to have a business that combined the two of them. It's a scary world out there though and the days of the independent book store are pretty much gone. I'd love to own a small store with new and used books both and a cafe where people could just sit.

Hmm ~ now who should I tag? Holly, Izzy, Jen, Zeek, Ames, and Dylan.

Top 10 Songs On My Playlist
Okay, so I got this from Holly's blog.

1. When I'm With You by Sheriff. When I was 18, I met a boy at a party. Actually, what I saw was a boy run out of the party, punch a tree, and then pass out and fall over the side of the patio. I thought he was stupid ~ maybe even a bit touched in the head. A few days later I met this guy with the most amazing blue eyes I'd ever seen and I was immediately smitten. The more I got to talking with this guy, the more I liked him. As we were talking, we were surprised that we'd both been at that party a few nights ago but had never met. Why? Because he was the stupid boy who got into a fight with a tree. Yes, he'd had a bit too much to drink that night. He was celebrating the fact that he would be leaving soon to go to basic training. He'd joined the Army and had only about a month until he left. I think we saw each other every day until the day he left. I cried for days ~ our timing just stunk. After basic training, he was back. But, I was leaving. I was going home for Christmas and then moving to California. We had a week to spend together. The night before I was supposed to leave we stayed up all night talking and in the morning before I left he wiped the tears from my eyes and gently kissed me goodbye. We wrote letters but eventually the letters stopped and we lost contact with each other. I've never seen him since. But, those first few months in California I would listen to this song over and over again. God, how I missed him. He's someone I think about often ~ wondering what might have happened if our timing had been better.

2. Tennessee Waltz by Eva Cassidy. This is my favorite version of this song. Eva Cassidy had such an amazing voice and it's a great loss that a woman this gifted should have died at such a young age from cancer. This was Dad's favorite song ~ I actually danced with him to this song at my uncle's wedding.

3. You Oughta Know by Alanis Morisette. I find myself singing this song a lot. Wonder why that is?

4. Copperhead Road by Steve Earle. This is just an awesome song. How can anyone not want to dance around when this song is playing?

5. I Run for Live by Melissa Etheridge. This song is just inspirational. Don't forget that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. You can find more information here or here.

6. In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning by Frank Sinatra. Big sigh. Love my Frankie.

7. Tennessee Flat Top Box by Johnny Cash. Okay, so when I do go out and when I actually have had too much to drink I will sing this at the karaoke bar. Maybe once a decade. It's just a fun song.

8. Walking after Midnight by Patsy Cline. C'mon ~ it's Patsy. No list is complete without one of her songs.

9. Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison. In music, I have four loves ~ Def Leppard, Patsy Cline, Frank Sinatra, and Van Morrison. Great song to two-step to.

10. Two Steps Behind by Def Leppard or Love Bites by Def Leppard. It's a tie. I've been in love with every single member of this band at some point. All of their songs are great. And I admit, I will crank their music and pretend I'm a teenager again. I have all of their CD's so I can be young again whenever I want to :-)

21. Broken into a house?
NOT GUILTY Whoops ~ need to change my answer on this one. GUILTY. When my fiance and I broke up, I left him. I went back to the house to get my stuff when I knew he'd be at work, along with my friend SD. When I got to the house, he'd changed all of the locks and tripped the alarm. I got in the house anyway and when the cops showed up, I explained what happened and the cops helped me get the stuff out of the house. Oh and I took everything he ever gave me, everything his family ever gave me, everything I ever gave him, everything my family ever gave him ~~ and since I was the one responsible for buying the groceries, I took all of those too.

22. Gotten a tattoo?
NOT GUILTY (I have a low tolerance for pain).

GUILTY (I have a sister ~ we fought all the time).

26. Swallowed sea/pool water?
GUILTY (can't be avoided).

27. Spun yourself in circles to get dizzy on purpose?

41 Things
I stole this from Sarah’s blog.

1. Have you ever been searched by the cops?
No.

2. Do you close your eyes on roller coasters?
No ~ what’s the point in going on one if you’re going to close your eyes?

3. When's the last time you've been sledding?
I was 17…there was a group of us that went. Half boys, half girls. We partnered up and sled as teams. We were all so drenched but it was definitely one of the times of my life. Afterwards we all went to a friend’s house for hot chocolate. I haven’t thought about that in years. Thanks for the memory!

4. Would you rather sleep with someone else, or alone?
Depends……who’s asking?

5. Do you believe in ghosts?
Yes, I think I do.

6. Do you consider yourself creative?
Yes.

7. Do you think O.J. killed his wife?
Yes

8. Jennifer Aniston or Angelina Jolie?
Can we just move on from this already?! Sheesh.

9. Do you stay friends with your ex's?
No.

10. Do you know how to play poker?
Yes.

11. Have you ever been awake for 48 hours straight?
No ~ I made it close to 30 hours once. Then I fell asleep at church. Never tried to stay up for a long stretch again. (PS – That’s the day I found out I snore when I’m truly exhausted)

12. What's your favorite commercial?
Probably the ones that make me cry. The Folgers Christmas commercial, the McDonald’s big brother commercial (big brother in the service comes home for baby sister’s wedding and he remembers all the fun times growing up when they went to McDonald’s), pretty much all of the Hallmark commercials. What can I say? I’m a sap.

13. What are you allergic to?
Nothing that I know of.

14. If you're driving in the middle of the night, and no one is around, do you run red lights?
No.

15. Do you have a secret that no one knows but you?
Pretty much someone somewhere knows any one of my secrets….so I guess, by definition I don’t have any.

16. Boston Red Sox or New York Yankees?
Who are they?

17. Have you ever been ice skating?
Yes, but it’s safer for me (and the other skaters, I might add) if I just watch.

18. How often do you remember your dreams?
Pretty much all the time.

19. When was the last time you laughed so hard you cried?
I can’t remember. Guess I need to add that to my “to do” list. I cried so hard I laughed one time. And if I remember right, everyone at school saw me.

20. Can you name 5 songs by The Beatles?
When I’m 64, The Long and Winding Road, Strawberry Fields, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (PS – Did anyone else fall in love just a little bit with Peter Frampton in this movie?)

21. What's the one thing on your mind now?
3 more hours until I pick up my niece from school.

22. Do you believe in love at first sight?
I used to. Now, I believe that you can be attracted but love comes later.

23. Do you know who Ghetto-ass Barbie is?
No.

24. Do you always wear your seat belt?
Absolutely.

25. What cell service do you use?
Verizon

26. Do you like sushi?
Yes ~ favorites are California roll, Spider roll, and Crunchy roll

27. Have you ever narrowly avoided a fatal accident?
Yes ~ that’s why I’m always a little nervous driving on gravel roads.

28. What do you wear to bed?
Sweats and t-shirt usually.

29. Been caught stealing?
In 4th grade ~ Learned my lesson.

30. What shoe size do you wear?
8 or 8 ½.

31. Do you truly hate anyone?
No ~ why give someone else that much control over my life? It takes too much energy.

32. Classic Rock or Rap?
Classic Rock.

33. If you could sleep with one famous person, who would it be?
Only one? But, I’ve got a list! Okay, first pick would be Julian McMahon. If he was otherwise occupied, Aidan Quinn. If he’s not available, Taye Diggs. I’m sure he’ll be busy, so next pick would be Colin Firth. If he’s booked, it would be Thomas Gibson. Finally, I’d just have to try Julian McMahon again.

34. Are you a virgin?
Are you?

35. Have you ever sung in front of the mirror?
Not that I remember.

36. What food do you find disgusting?
Pretty much any glandular meat out there. That’s just yuck.

37. Do you sing in the shower?
Yup. And I’m sure my neighbor enjoys it.

38. Did you ever play, "I'll show you mine, if you show me yours"?
Yes I did. Also played strip “spin the bottle”.

39. Have you ever made fun of your friends behind their backs?
No.

40. Have you ever stood up for someone you hardly knew?
Absolutely.

41. Have you ever been punched in the face?
No. I got punched in the va-jay-jay once though. I think (hope?!) it was an accident. Ouch.

Best Love Songs of the Past 40 Years
So, my best friend's parents are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary next week. BSG would like to make a compilation CD of the top love songs for every year they've been married (opinion only, not billboard). Some of the suggestions I've given her are:

At Last by Etta James
Grow Old Along With Me by Mary Chapin Carpenter
You're Still You by Josh Groban
Feels Like Forever by Joe Cocker
Lullaby by Dixie Chicks
When I Said I Do by Clint Black and Lisa Hartman Black
You Can Leave Your Hat On by Joe Cocker
Let's Get It On by Marvin Gaye
The Very Thought of You by (take your pick) Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald ~~~ technically older than the 40 year mark, but how can you skip Frankie?! ~~~ also it's being sung by new standards artists, so maybe we can sneak it in?
Come Away With Me by Norah Jones
Fever by Peggy Lee
When You Say Nothing at All by Alison Krauss

For some reason, she didn't really care for these suggesions:

You're the Reason Our Kids Are Ugly by Delbert McClinton
Why Don't We Get Drunk (and Screw) by Jimmy Buffett

We're hoping to make a 2-disc set for them this weekend and would like an assortment of all musical genres. So ~ what are some of your favorite love songs?

20 Things That Irritate Me (today)
I got tagged by Holly.

1)Women Like This. I’m linking through Karen’s blog because I don’t want embarrass this poor woman by sending folks over to witness how ignorant some people can be.

2)Coworkers who refuse to retire. Not that I have anything against working with “mature” people ~ I don’t. I just happen to work with someone who doesn’t know anything, doesn’t want to know anything, and thinks she’s entitled to a job because she’s been with the company for 15 years. Bosses are afraid to fire her due to age discrimination ~ so that leaves the rest of us to carry the slack. She does, however, know how to play on the internet. And pay her bills. And make personal phone calls. But don’t you dare give her stuff to file without putting it in order first ~ she’ll give it back to you and make you organize it. Seriously. And she gets away with it.

3) Grammar. Your and you’re. There, their and they’re. Whose and who’s. I’m a frustrated English teacher, or so my boss tells me.

4) Bad drivers. Period. Whether it’s not using the blinker, not going the speed limit, cutting me off in traffic, and so on and so on.

5) Nepotism. It just doesn’t feel good.

6) Well-meaning, but annoying matchmakers. Friends, friends of friends, coworkers of friends, sons of friends, husbands of friends, bosses, nieces, sisters, future brother-in-law, and sister of said future brother in law. Enough said.

7) Landlords who put your duplex up for sale without telling you. That’s fun. I’m trying not to think of the worst case scenarios: a) someone buys it and ups the rent; or b) someone buys it to level it so they can build their dream house on the property.

8) My job. But I’ve got almost 6 years there, so my benefits are good. Every time I think of quitting, I keep thinking of my benefits. I’d hate to start over. But I work with someone who should have retired 15 years ago; and then I work with the daughter of the boss. Some days I still like my job ~ most days, I just don’t want to be there.

9) Diana Palmer books. I had to quit reading them. If I saw one more father-figure hero calling his heroine “little one” after explaining what “la petite morte” was, I was going to scream. It’s much better just to not read them.

10) Liars. What’s the point? The truth’s going to come out eventually.

11) Stupid people. I’m not talking book smart ~ I don’t care about that. But whatever happened to common sense? Good Lord, we’re a nation full of stupid people.

12) Common decency. Whatever happened to being kind to someone, just to be kind? People rarely smile at each other anymore. And forget doing something just to help someone and not to make you look better, and not so that it could get you some recognition. What happened to looking someone in the eye, smiling and saying “hello”? Did you ever see Pay it Forward? Well, pay it forward. I dare you.

13) Fakey people. You know the ones ~ big smile, high pitched sweet voice, and then a huge dagger they use to stab you right in the back. Ouch.

14) High-strung, self-important coworkers who can't seem to ever get to the point. I swear. Some people just talk to hear themselves talk, I think. Good Lord. Say what you came here to say and get it over with. Now take your nose out the air, take a deep breath, and leave. Really.

15) Commercials for Fall TV shows that won’t be on for another month! I’m too old to be wishing my life away for a TV show. Is it September 21 yet?

16) Cultural Incompetency. Truly. People who don’t understand that culture and skin color are not the same thing. Do not define me by my skin color ~ being “white” is not my heritage. Get it right.

17) Looking for a second job ~ just so I can have a little extra $$$. Truly. I hate student loans. And doctors. And dentists. They’re taking all of my money.

18) Gas prices. My town has 3 refineries ~ Exxon, Conoco, and Cenex. We’re surrounded by oil drilling states. And yet, I’m still paying $3.11/gallon for gas.

19) Telemarketers. Thanks to the do not call registry this isn’t much of a problem anymore.

20) Spam. Need I say more?
