Meet the Teacher

Brodey is starting Preschool this year... I can't believe it. First day of school is Tuesday, September 2nd. Jeff and I met his teachers Tuesday night at Parent Orientation and now this morning I got to take Brodey up there to met everybody. This did not go like I thought it would. Brodey is normally very shy and I thought he would be more clingy to me. I thought I would be comforting him...

He took to his teacher, Ms. Angie, right away. Twice he asked me when I was leaving. I wasn't leaving... this was just meet the teacher! Then he says, "why don't you come back and get me later mommy? I want to stay at school. You'll be okay mommy, I'll see you later." He was trying to comfort me!
When we were leaving I told him next time we came I would be dropping him off and picking him up a few hours later. He says, "you're gonna miss me mommy?" "Yes Brodey, I am going to miss you." Brodey: "You'll be okay. You can see me again when I come home." I feel like we are in some kind of roll reversal.
** and yes... I am still pregnant.

Oh yes, still pregnant.

Just a few pictures from the weekend (hopefully my last ever pregnant weekend). Jeff and the boys spent the day on Saturday watching movies on a stack of pillows while I went to a wedding. (They were also "supervising" some work that was being done in the basement.. which is really the reason they skipped the wedding.)
And a picture of me and Brodey comparing bellies. Mine is bigger.
Jeff told me whenever he thinks about this pregnancy he will think of this purple dress... as I have worn it pretty much everyday for at least the past two months. He says "what are you going to do when you aren't pregnant anymore and you can't wear that purple dress??" The first time I wore it Brock went and found him a blanket (a sheet actually), wrapped it around him and said, "wook mom.. I make tent too!!" Tent, even he can see that this is more of a tent than a dress. He was more amused by that than I was.

Final Guess?

One more week to go (hopefully not more!) before we have this baby. I wanted to document our final guesses before it is too late.

Me:
August 28th, 3:46am
Boy
8 lbs 5 oz, 20 in

Jeff:
August 30th, Kickoff Alabama/Clemson game
Boy
7 lbs 14 oz, 20 in

Brodey:
Another Brock. And we will call him Brock.

Brock:
"Girwl"

I see from my poll that 29 out of 39 people think we are having a girl... my intuition has yet to be wrong.. but we shall see!

Getting Ready for Baby

We spent this week getting the baby's room ready. Wondering why we have such a small room in our house? It's our master bedroom closet. It's not child abuse if there are windows! Brock slept here too... the plan was for him to spend 3 months... I liked having him so close he ended up not moving out of the closet until he was 18 months old. Brodey and Brock are sharing a room now... so in a few months (or whenever I feel like it!) this baby will have an actual room on the other side of the house by the boys.

Also, two much requested pictures of me 27 months pregnant (actually 38 weeks). Jeff was teasing me.. which is why I found it so difficult to smile. ;)

Bath-time fun

I was out with some friends last night and Jeff had quite an eventful night with the boys. He tells the story better, but I will give it a try...

He had the boys in the bathtub (our master bedroom bathtub), bubbles and all. When they were finishing up he pulled Brock out first, dried him off and sent him out to the family room to watch Herbie while he got Brodey out. He reached down into the bubbles to retrieve the soap and came out with, not the soap.. but a poo poo. Brodey was just as surprised as Jeff. So he yells out to Brock, "Brock! Did you poo poo in the bathtub??!!" .... Brock: "yep." Just as casually as if Jeff had asked him if he wanted milk.

So Jeff stands Brodey up at one end of the tub and pulls the drain, revealing much more of a mess than he originally anticipated. He turned for a second to find something to clean it up with and Brodey slipped. Slid on his back all the way through it all. Jeff says Brodey face when this happened was priceless... I can only imagine.

Anyhow.. he had it all cleaned up and both boys re-washed by the time I got home. What a guy! Lesson learned, he says, "always be able to see the bottom of the bathtub."

Start the Fire

We are in the middle of a huge renovation project in our house (because who doesn't want to be trying to finish a big project 9 months pregnant??) and today was the day we picked out flooring. Jeff left this morning and went somewhere far away to pick up samples and then the boys and I met him for lunch at the halfway point to decide on something. On the way up there I told the boys we were going to be in the car for awhile because we were going to lunch a long way from home (with the daddy that they DO have). About 10 minutes into our trip Brodey says, "Start the fire in the back mom." I'm confused, so I ask him to clarify. "You know! The fire, to shoot out the back-of-da-car so we go reawy fast!!" I don't know where that came from, but I'm fairly certain fire has never shot out of the back of our 2001 Volvo SEDAN. He was disappointed to learn our car didn't have that feature.

**Edit: Jeff informed me today that my car is a 2000.. not a 2001. Even funnier that I didn't know that.

Brodey's goal: Public Embarrassment

Yesterday one of Jeff's friends came home with him to help him move some things. Brodey says to them: "Were didn't have lunch today" (he says were instead of we). Of course we had lunch... I don't know where he comes up with these things.

Today at Barnes and Noble we stopped to play with the trains for a little while. There were 4 other moms and their boys playing too. One of the moms says to her boy "It's time to go.. we need to meet daddy for lunch." Brodey chimes in and says, "Were don't have a daddy." All eyes turn to look at the giant pregnant woman too swollen to wear wedding rings. What does one say to that??

Just two of several reasons I'm concerned about him starting preschool, away from me, in two weeks.

Meeting Maddy Grace!

Last week the boys finally got to meet 3 week old Maddy Grace Owens... It was a preview of what my life is going to look like when our baby is born. From the pictures it looks like Brock is being really sweet to the baby... not the case. In reality he was trying to head butt her and Jeff had to hold his hand over poor Maddy's head to protect her. I may need to get a helmet for our baby, Jeff will at some point have to go back to work and leave me alone with all these kids! Brodey was very gentle and couldn't get enough of her... he kept commenting on how small she was and how tiny her hands and feet were. It was love at first sight for him. :)

Brock in Action

No worries... I took him for a haircut after watching this back a couple of times.

Few things about Brock

Brock and Jeff are very similar. Jeff wakes up earlier than necessary every morning in order to watch SportsCenter while he's waking up. For several months... maybe even a year... Brock has gotten up early to sit on daddy's lap and watch with him. If ever I'm up that early I'll sit on the couch with them too... it didn't take me long to realize there was no talking during this time. If ever I made a comment or asked a question they would both look at me with matching blank stares. Anyhow... this morning was the first time I'd heard anything from either of them. SportsCenter reported that Brett Favre was going to the Jets. Brock, without taking his eyes off the TV says very quietly, "It's okay daddy." He's two!! I didn't realize that he really was watching!

Earlier this year Brock sat on the floor and watched almost all of the Daytona 500. He was fascinated.

There are very few things that he'll watch on TV, if ever I'm trying to distract them and want to turn something on he'll say "we watch the game??". He doesn't care what game, or even what sport. He's watched races, baseball, football, golf... all with much more interest than he has ever given to Sesame Street or Barney.

His favorite is baseball. He asks to play baseball several times a day. Whatever he can find to use as a bat and ball he'll use it. The other day he brought me a golf club and football. "We pway basebawl mommy??"

His favorite movie is Herbie Fully Loaded. He loves Herbie and every night thanks God for Herbie. Herbie, of course, is a race car.
