Rice Cereal

Lyla is 4.5 months old so we thought we would try giving her rice cereal last week. I'm not sure about her, but I didn't like it. For one, I'm not ready for her to be old enough to eat rice cereal. And two, I don't know how I will find time to feed it to her! Getting three kids out the door in time to get Brodey to preschool is enough of a struggle as it is. She is growing fine and sleeping great.. so I think I will put off the rice cereal and enjoy her baby-ness for a bit longer!

Oh the conversations....

Brodey: "What we havin for dinner mom??"

Me: (excited) "Spice encrusted pork tenderloin, seasoned black beans, and zucchini with fire roasted tomatoes!"

Brodey: (some what annoyed) "Can't we ever just have a corn dog?"

****************
Brock: "Mommy... baby wywa beans... she doesn't have any teeth. Or a penis."
Me: (very long pause) "You're right. She doesn't."

Just your typical Tuesday

Almost snowing

It almost snowed here the other day so we quickly bundled up and ran outside to see it. (This was when I first realized we don't own any cold weather clothes. Which explains the excessive layers. The sun glasses were Brock's doing.. I had no part of that.) And don't worry about Brodey saying his hands were cold... I ran inside quick and made him some mittens out of some scrap chenille... warm hands in no time!

It's so exhausting to be two...

And the truth comes out...

The boys are not allowed to get out of their beds after we put them in there for the night. This has been going pretty well for awhile. So we thought.
Flipping through the pictures on Brodey's Kid Tough Camera I came across these...
Here's Brock, getting out of his bed.
Checking out the bare light bulb. (that's right.. no lamp shade. They broke three and I stopped buying new ones for them. This was a rare night that I didn't have to take the light bulb out when I left the room.)
Walking around... checking things out.

And finally on Brodey's bed reading a book.
Sneaky sneaky boys.
I should probably get Brock a camera so I can get some dirt on Brodey.

Brock in 3rd person

"Where is Bwocky's sister?"

"I want daddy to stay at Bwocky's house today"

"Mommy, you should share Bwocky's baby sista with daddy." (ouch)

"Bwocky's sista is Wightnin (Lightning) McQueen's sista too."

Already 4 months old

Brock and I dropped Brodey off at school then headed to the pediatrician for Lyla's 4 month well check today. Kind of an eventful morning at the doctor's office, starting with the waiting room:
there was a little boy with a cold running around and was really fascinated with Lyla who was sitting in her car seat. I played defence for her for a while since this little boy's mom was apparently very busy with some paper work. Then I turned to help Brock get in his chair and the little boy grabbed Lyla's passy (with the hand he was wiping his nose with) and tried to shove it in her mouth. His mom got to him first and tried to grab the passy from him and ended up stabbing poor Lyla in the face with her pen! And THEN the mom stuck the dirty passy in Lyla's mouth! Thankfully the nurse called us back right after all that.
Back in the exam room after Lyla had been weighed and such I had her laying on the table and Brock was sitting on a chair looking at some books. So I thought I would wash the passy quick to get ready for the upcoming shots. Lyla is not rolling over yet, but you just never know, so I put my foot up on the table in case she did move and then stretched over to the sink on the other side of the room. There I am standing on one foot, stretched all the way out, hands wet in the sink, and the lights go off. Completely dark... no window. I couldn't even see my hands. I just stood there for a second. "Brock??" He starts giggling so I know he's the reason the lights are off. "Brock! Turn the light back on!" More giggling. "BROCK. TURN. THE. LIGHT. ON." (that's me being stern.) nothing. "BROCKY!!" (that's me yelling) Still nothing. I'm still on one foot. Still with the wet hands. Ended up having to grope around for Lyla, pick her up and then grope around for the light switch.. which was not anywhere near the door so it took longer than you would think. Of course I have the one 2.5 year old that isn't afraid of the dark so I found him with a giant smile on his face when the lights came back on.
Anyhow, here are her stats:
Weight: 14 lbs 4 oz (75th %tile)
Height: 25.5 in (90th %tile)
Brodey at 4 months:
Weight : 16 lbs 6 oz (85th %tile)
Height: 25.5 in (60th %tile)
Brock at 4 months:
Weight: 15 lbs 12 oz
Height: 26 in

In the last month she has started to do the BEST belly laugh.. love it. She smiles all the time, loves when the boys play with her and still has me wrapped around her finger. I am known as the baby hog and even her daddy has to fight me for a turn to hold her. After a few sleepless nights with a cold, she is back to being an awesome sleeper. In bed between 8 and 8:30 and sleeps until 7:30/8ish. She is so much fun and we all love every second with her.
(and thanks Kali for the SO CUTE outfit! Love it!)

Happy Happy New Year!!

We had some friends over last night to bring in the New Year.... 9 adults... 8 kids! New Years parties have really changed!
Here's Brock lovin on Maddy Grace. He gave her her first ever taste of juice... she's a champ at drinking out of a straw! (Sorry about that Kristin!)
FIVE babies under 6 months old. Lined up by birthday:
Lyla: September 5, Charlie: September 2, AJ: August 22, Luke: July 23, Maddy: July 12
And the daddy's with the babies. (Minus Charlie and his daddy who was at the Chik-fil-a bowl)

Charlie was the first baby to check out for the night. :)

The big boys had so much fun playing together in the basement. They played trains, and watched movies, and played trains some more. Our boys were so excited to have someone for them to play with. They had a hard time remembering Kirkland's name and even this morning were asking me where "that boy we played with" went.

Getting ready for "bed" (yeah right). Somehow Brodey ended up in Brock's PJ's and Brock in Brodey's.

Anytime Brock feels like bedtime is coming he'll run and find Mr. Clint to snuggle with him. He just makes himself at home with the Owens family!

And a little clip of the boys...

Just another fun video

I was trying to get him to talk about the Christmas lights because it has been so cute driving around with him and hearing him in the backseat saying: "Chwismas wights!! Pweddy..." But no... he was distracted by the stars and the moon.
