Sunday Fun

Brock, being Brock

Bath time

Lyla has been doing so well sitting up we finally let her start sitting up in the big bath without her normal baby sling seat. She looked a little confused at first, but then really loved it. Much easier to splash and play in this new position. And even more exciting.. daddy can give her baths now! (Jeff won't bathe the kids until they can sit up on their own. He's afraid something crazy will happen and someone will get hurt. Plus he likes to play and make a big mess... much more fun now that she can sit up!)

All clean!

Hard of hearing??

Brodey has a few phrases that he has heard from school (I'm guessing) that he isn't quite getting right. I try to correct him, but he is convinced he is right and will argue with me all day long. Here are a couple of my favorites:

Instead of "Run FOR your LIFE" he says: "Run FROM your WIFE" He runs around the house all day yelling that. He must think wives are really scary.

Instead of "ALL ABOARD." he says: "ON THE BOARD" (I've tried to convince him that doesn't make sense, but he really thinks that's what a train conductor says.)

Who is this kid??

This has been a big week for Brock. First the amazing potty training (and I mean amazing... we even went out all morning with no accidents... I didn't even have to ask him 500 times if he had to go potty. When we came home he went straight to the bathroom and went BY HIMSELF with out being told. I asked if I could help him and he said, "No, I do it myself." What a big boy!!) and now, out of nowhere, he eats! (Up until today his diet has consisted of peanuts, yogurt, fruit, and peanut butter sandwiches.... he has NEVER eaten any kind of meat.) Today, he sat down for lunch and ate a WHOLE CHICKEN NUGGET. (I know.. that's not much but it is a HUGE deal for him.). He also gave up sippy cups. What is next???? Cutting the grass? Doing his own laundry?? I'm starting to wonder if maybe we accidentally brought the wrong kid home from Church last Sunday.

One Baby Band

She plays an instrument AND sings. So talented! (she always does the cutest most picture/video worthy things when I have her dressed crazy! Oh well... I think her smile makes up for it!)

**Brock can't STAND it when she puts toys in her mouth. Totally grosses him out. Luckily he was napping when she was chewing on this toy.

Potty Trained??

I loathe potty training. I think it's gross. Toilets are gross. "Potty Chairs" are even grosser. Diapers don't bother me at all... I'd much rather change a diaper than go through potty training with all the accidents and such. So I like to avoid such things until absolutely necessary. I didn't even start thinking about potty training Brodey until after he had turned three... and only then because of all the peer pressure from my friends! He wasn't so bad... a few accidents, a few poopy underwears (which I threw away... no way I was cleaning that out), all together took about a week before I would take him out of the house in underwear and not worry about an accident.
Brock came to me Monday morning with a pair of Brodey's underwear wanting to wear them. I let him, only because I figured it would make me a bad parent if I discouraged potty training, but was already thinking about the puddle I would be cleaning up before 10am. Much to my surprise he went all day with only one (very small) accident! And that happened while he was washing his hands in the bathroom... warm water on the hands equals peeps in the pants. He even stayed dry during his nap!
Tuesday morning he woke up dry and used the potty all day... no accidents.
Wednesday morning: dry. No accidents.
Today: dry. No accidents so far.
Did Brock potty train himself??
I realize we will probably have a few accidents here and there (maybe??), but I think it's safe to say that Brock is officially potty trained! Yay Brock!!

6 month well check

Today was Lyla's 6 month well check.. here she is waiting patiently for the doctor...
(side note, Brock turned the lights off on me AGAIN while waiting for the doctor)
Looks like she might know what's coming...

4 months ago at her 2 month well check.
And her stats:
Weight: 16 lbs (55th %tile)
Height: 26 3/4 inches (75th %tile)

Brodey at 6 months:
Weight: 20 lbs
Height: 28 inches
Brock at 6 months:
Weight: 17 lbs 14 oz
Height: 27.5 inches
Also, she has puffy swollen teething gums AND double ear infections AND got 3 shots. Rough day for Lyla! (I want to point out that I took her in on Friday thinking she had an ear infection and was told she had a stomach virus... it was hard, but I held back my "I told you so.") She is a champ though and took her shots with hardly any crying.

Here she is when we got home... such a trouper!

(Megan... thanks for this outfit too!!)

Happy Spring!

I love Georgia! One weekend it's snowing... the next, 80 degrees!
We have been having so much fun playing outside. Lyla has a new fascination with her toes.
Look at the right ones...
Look at the left ones... repeat several times.
Best buddies
(Brock, if 20 years from now you read this blog, I want you to know I did NOT part your hair like that. The wind blew, I promise.)

Happy 1/2 Birthday Lyla!!

Lyla is 6 months old today! It feels like I just did a post about her being 5 months! I hope the next 6 months don't pass as fast as these first 6.
Next week she has her 6 month well check and 6 month pictures... I will have much more to update then.

Thanks again Megan for the so cute tutu!!

Fun time playing in the SNOW!

We had so much fun playing in the snow yesterday! Unfortunately it took us 47 hours to get all of our kids dressed warm enough and by the time we got outside the big fluffy pretty flakes had turned into heavy, very wet, sleet-ish snow. So we got very wet!
Here's Lyla in her first snow! (yep, that's Brodey's old MN Gophers hat. Hopefully she'll forgive me for making her look like a boy)
I love Brock in this picture. He didn't even complain that his hat was over his eyes!
Jeff and Brodey slid down the hill in the back on this tarp for a little while, then ditched the tarp and would just run and slide on their belly's.
I like snow, especially when it only lasts for a day and we'll be back in the 70's by the end of the week! Woo-Hoo!!

Sadie's Vacation

Our dog Sadie got out Saturday morning and went for a little run around the neighborhood. She's not one to run away and usually just stays right around the house and will scratch on the door when she's ready to come in. This time she went a bit further, out to the busier road close to our house. A nice couple saw her laying on the side of the road and thought she had been hit by a car so they took her to an Animal Hospital. Then they went door to door in our neighborhood with a picture of her trying to find her owners. Unfortunately by the time they got to us the Animal Hospital had closed for the weekend and we couldn't get her back or know if she was okay until this morning! She was fine, it's likely she just laid down and took a nap on the side of the road... her poor judgement on napping location cost us $220! Oh well... we are happy to have her back and glad she's not hurt. The boys missed her so much over the weekend!

***side note: While I was posting this Brodey ran over to me upset because his gum fell out of his mouth and Sadie ate it. A couple of minutes later he came back with it back in his mouth! He said, "She dropped it so I grabbed it weal (real) quick and ate it!" Gross.
