Amtrak-California Trip Day 3

We spent the first night in Emeryville after getting off the train.  The next morning we had breakfast at the Black Bear Diner and then Kent went to get the rental car.  We met up with Dorie and Jimmy at the Montery Bay Aquarium (the one that "Finding Dory" is based on).  We had a great day with them, saw some fun fish critters, and had an ocean view early dinner at Luigi Linguni's.

The aquarium use to be a old sardine cannery.

We walked around the old cannery for awhile.

Amtrak Trip to California Day 1-2

For Spring Break this year, we took a very fun Amtrak train trip to Emeryville, California.  We left at 11:30p.m., but fortunately the train was running on time so there was no wait that late at night.  When we got to our sleeper (all equipped for a wheelchair!), our attendant, Karen, had made up the beds for us.  It didn't take long to get comfy and fall asleep to the motion of the train.

Here's the train coming in at 11:00ish (at night) to the SLC Amtrak station.

When we woke up, Karen came a took our breakfast order and had it there soon and also made our bed up so we had 2 seats facing each other.

Next it was just watching the scenery....all pretty in it's own way.  Once we past Reno, Nevada, things got really beautiful!

We knew we were California when we saw the Palm Trees.  Arrived at the Emeryville Station at about 4:30pm on Monday and walked the block to our hotel, the Four Corners.  Ate at the Hungry Bear Restaurant.  Food was good, hotel was ok (1 double bed makes for cozy sleeping).

Disneyland 2016

Our first trip to Disneyland in 2016 included spending time with family, DeeAnn's sister Dorie and her nephew Jimmy (Dories son).  It was great to see them and spend time with them.  I think we all needed the get away and what better place is there to get away?

We arrived a day before and was able to do a few things together.  This also provided us to check out a couple of spots in the park that we had not been at before, if you can believe that.

Found a quiet spot for lunch (rare in Disneyland).  It was behind Harbor Cafe (where they also have sourdough soup bowls and salads)
Its always nice to go to California when it's winter in Utah.  We rode the train up to the airport, saving a ton of money on parking but once we arrived in California, we were able to stow our coats for the return trip.

Trees in bloom

All kinds of blooms.
There is some changes happening in the parks.  First, the Aladdin show, one of our favorites, has been taken out and is being replaced by a play based on the movie Frozen.  It will be fun to check out what they do and some of the special effects they come up with.  We are hoping the the play is an enjoyable as Aladdin has been.

They are also making a new land based on Star Wars.  It will be replacing the petting zoo, barbecue restaurant and some offices behind the park.  They are also rerouting the ships in the lagoon, and changing the train tracks that circle the park.

Frozen is highlighted in what used to be the Muppets 3-D theater
We stayed at the Staybridge Suites, a new hotel that is near the convention center.  There is a CVS right on the property, making picking up a snack, water, or sundries pretty easy and quick.  We asked for an accessible room and finally got one on our third try.  Apparently the hotel staff didn't realize what an accessible room was!

Beautiful and comfortable room

Sully even came for a visit

It was crowded in both parks, but we were able to do a lot. We also enjoyed a dinner at Carnation Cafe and soup bowls at Pacific Wharf cafe.  We even got to ride the Toy Story ride twice, since there was no one waiting for the accessible car.

Disney World Part 2

At some point in our lives, we'd like to stay in all the resorts of Walt Disney World, including the Boardwalk, pictured here. It is on the boat route and within walking distance of Epcot. Looks nice.

One of the new attractions at Hollywood Studios is the American Idol Experience, where preselected park guests perform. The winner of each mini performance then goes to the evening final where the winner of that receives an invitation to the real American Idol.

Of course, no visit to Walt Disney World would be complete without the Animal kingdom and the Safari ride. It's great to see the animals close up and in a natural environment.

Doie, Milan and Jimmy met us at the hotel and it was nice to spend time with them.

It was fun to see some of the Halloween decorations around the park. Disney goes all out in decorating. And it seems to go up overnight.
