Garden Party Baby Shower

This weekend with the help of my friend Nikki, I had fun throwing a baby shower for our sweet friend, Jenna.
Jenna is the loveliest girl and has the sweetest heart! God has given her a special heart for children who are in Foster Care and she is involved with the adoption/orphans/foster care ministry at our church. Jenna is having her second baby girl in a few weeks.
We held the shower on Friday evening & the theme I had in mind was a garden party. I saw a really cool centerpiece in the Phyllis Hoffman's Celebrations magazine (that I won at The Blessed Nest's a couple ofmonths ago!) The mossy centerpiece in the magazine inspired my ideas for the party. When I asked Jenna what her nursery colors are, she said aqua, & green! I love those colors together & thought they would be perfect for the shower with splashes of raspberry pink! I also have been seeing those large tissue paper pom poms everywhere lately & wanted to try my hand at making those. They were fun & easy to make! I originally planned to suspend them from the ceiling, but honestly ran out of time...so I lined them up in our large bay window & they looked rather festive there!
One guest commented they looked very pretty from outside as you walked up the stairs to the porch!

The centerpiece is living moss that Jeff bought at a local nursery. It was a bit messy to deal with as it comes in a flat with a lot of dirt & I basically had to rip half of the dirt & roots away with my bare hands.
Once inside, I lined the area I planned to cover on my table with a large garbage bag folded to the correct size. I then arranged the moss on top of the bag. The picture I had seen in the magazine had irregular edges, but I went for the clean lines of a rectangle. It seemed to work best on my long rectangular table. I would have taken pictures as I was going along, but I was running out of time & my hands were WAY too dirty to hold the camera!
After getting the moss all settled, I added in cut flowers & greenery. I used lots of blossoms off of a hydrangea that Jeff had at his shop. I also used a few purchased bouquets of flowers, too.
While looking for something else in our storage room, I saw the bin labeled "decorative marbles & rocks," so I grabbed a few bags of the smooth stone rocks to use as accents. I also used them as a border all the way around the moss to hide any dirt or exposed areas of the garbage bag.
I have to say that I was very pleased with how it all turned out! And even more thankful that I didn't see one bug crawling across the table the entire evening! With live plants, you just never know, but I was watching closely!
I liked the way the green on the table echoed the green grass & trees outside the window.
Oh, have you noticed we had a little bit of food on the table, too! Nikki made some yummy cucumber sandwiches & her famously delicious Devonshire Tidbits. She also brought a cheese & cracker tray. Thank you Nikki!
I put out assorted nuts; grapes; watermelon cut in flower shapes; strawberries, peaches & banana right beside the warm chocolate fudge; steamed asparagus wrapped in cream cheese & ham; creme puffs; lobster dip & a spinach artichoke dip with multigrain chips; deli spirals; mini quiches & Edamame.
I am always worried that there will not be enough food, so I keep adding things...and I always forget to put at least one thing out...this time it was blueberries, I had 6 pints! Oh, and I didn't make the tomato-basil-mozzarella skewers either, my mom kept telling me that I had enough...and she was right!
 I made raspberry lime punch...I {heart} punch!
I also served raspberry lemonade and water.
You can't really see the ice cubes, but they were part of a neat shower game...Nikki took tiny plastic babies & froze them inside of ice cubes...regular ice cubes for water & raspberry lemonade cubes for the lemonade! Whoever's baby was "born" first won a prize!
I thought it was fun having the party on a Friday evening because everyone seemed relaxed & it was almost like a Girls Night Out...just fun to hang out & fellowship & celebrate the baby on the way!
Nikki had organized a few more games including Baby Bingo, Baby Scramble (unscrambling the letters of common baby items), and a funny game where people were assigned either a baby or mommy animal & the first pair to find each other won a prize! Oh, but they could only "talk" using the animal's noises! Thanks Nikki for coordinating the games & the prizes!

Here is Jenna with her sweet sister-in-law.
Here she is with her friend, Joanna, from the adoption/foster care ministry at church.
Jessica & Jenny
Stephanie & baby Nehemiah (just wait 'til you see the cake Stephanie made!)
Okay, I will show you the cake now because even though we had lots of food, we still needed cake!
Simply gorgeous...and it tasted WONDERFUL! So decadent! (I forgot to mention that sweet Nehemiah is Stephanie's fifth baby...she is truly a Super Mom!)
Last, but not least, Jenna opened her gifts!
She received so many adorable outfits for baby girl & "tried on" each outfit!
Now all she needs is for baby girl to arrive! Oh, and they need to decide on a name!
Jenna, wishing you, Wade, Sophia & baby girl all the best! Praying for your delivery & can't wait to meet your newest arrival!

For the shower favors, I put together little terra cotta pots with a packet of Zinnias (easy to grow in your garden or a container) and a few Gihradelli chocolates.
I used pretty ribbon to tie on a little tag with the following poem...
A sweet little flower is about to bloom;
How fun to help Jenna prepare for her birth!
Now you can enjoy some sweet flowers at home,
When you plant these tiny seeds in the earth!
I had hoped to be a little more crafty with the tag & add some embellishments, but I simply ran out of time with the busy week we have had. I have to thank Jack for tying on all of the tags for me right before the guests started to arrive!

AND, I must make sure to add that I could not have pulled off this shower without the help of my wonderful mother! She took the afternoon off of work to come & help me with all of the preparations! What a blessing & I know I could not have done it without her help! Thanks Mom, love you!
