Coming from a tradition-oriented family, Kurosaki Hisoka was trained in traditional Japanese martial arts when he was still living as a human. His parents were afraid of his spiritual powers, and they considered him unfit to be the heir of the Kurosaki household. In truth, his parents were more fearful of the fact that his powers could unfurl the familiar secret, so they locked him up in the cellar whenever they caught him using his empathy.

In the 5th volume of the Yami no Matsuei manga, it was revealed that Tatsumi was Tsuzuki’s third partner, but their partnership only lasted three months until Tatsumi quit. Tsuzuki’s emotional breakdowns reminded Tasumi too much of his mother, and he still blamed himself over her death. Although their relationship was partially resolved in volume 5, Tatsumi remains uncertain and overprotective of Tsuzuki, as he felt guilty over the end of their partnership.

If I remember correctly, Tsuzuki often asks Tatsumi to make him snacks, and even though Tatsumi complains about it, he makes them anyway! Doesn’t Kuromitsu (黒蜜) make a lovely Tsuzuki? I don’t know who Tatsumi’s cosplayer is, but s/he is equally lovely as well! Thanks to Claro for sending this in!

Muraki Kazutaka first learned about Tsuzuki Asato through his grandfather’s notes, and thus became obsessed with Tsuziki’s body, both carnally and scientifically. Although a lot about Muraki has remained a mystery, he referred to himself as a Descendant of Darkness like Tsuzuki in the final episode of the anime.

Kidzuki Sakura (姫月さくら) and Mitsugu (ミツグ) definitely make a lovely pair, especially for this particular series. Please do visit Sakura’s Profile for more of their work. Thanks again to Hachimitsu for sending this in!

When Hisoka was 13-years-old, he went out one night to see the sakura trees near his home. Unfortunately, he witnessed Muraki killing an unknown woman. In order to keep Hisoka quiet, Muraki tortured Hisoka and cursed him to die a slow death that lasted 3 years. In the afterlife, Hisoka became a shinigami hoping to uncover the truth behind his untimely death.

This looks like the scene after Muraki’s curse on Hisoka. I really felt bad for this character, but I didn’t realize “that” happened to him until much later. In any case, thanks to Miaka for sending this in!

The secretary of the Shokan Division, Tatsumi Seiichiro has full control over department finances, giving him substantial influence over Chief Konoe. When working on cases, usually assisting Tsuzuki and Hisoka, he partners with Watari Yutaka, a scientist in charge of computer maintenance and repair. In addition to the standard abilities of the shinigami, Tatsumi has the ability to manipulate shadows both as weapons and as a means of transport.

A pretty simple yet effective cosplay! Tatsumi was one of my favorite characters in the series, but I’m guessing that’s mainly because he’s wearing glasses. Please visit Kazuma(一馬)’s profile for more of her cosplays!

An expert manipulator, Muraki Kazutaka is a well-respected physician who laments his inability to save lives while hiding the fact that he is actually a serial killer. His troubled childhood led to his obsession with Asato Tsuzuki, a patient of his grandfather’s, who stayed alive for eight years without food, water, or sleep. Muraki wants Tsuzuki’s body in order to bring back his brother, Saki, to life so that Muraki could kill him himself as revenge for murdering their mother.

As creepy as this series was, the artwork was absolutely amazing! Kidzuki Sakura (姫月さくら) looks gorgeous as that crazy doctor, and her partner, Mitsugu (ミツグ) makes a brilliant Tsuzuki too! Thanks to Hachimitsu for sending this in!

The Guardian of the East and Representative of the Golden Emperor of GensouKai, Souryuu is the blue dragon and the strongest among all the Shikigami. The only one who could match his rank and strength is Kurikara, the Fire Dragon. Souryuu has two children: his son, Koujin the thunder shikigami, and his daughter, Tenko the water shikigami.

Too bad Souryuu doesn't like Hisoka very much. In any case, this is such a beautiful cosplay! The patterns are gorgeous and they look really expensive too! Great work! Thanks to Lilibelle for sending this in!

The 16-year-old Shinigami who is Tsuzuki’s current partner, Hisoka possesses strong empathy which allows him to feel and see the thoughts and memories of others, even pick up imprints of clairvoyance off inanimate objects. He is much weaker compared to his partner, but he is a capable detective and clever in subterfuge. Chief Konoe has also trained him in basic ofuda and defensive magic.

Poor child… I would write about his history, but it’s a bit on the gruesome side. Really great job on this! I only wish they had finished the manga so we know how the story ended.

A shinigami who has a voracious appetite for sweets, Tsuzuki is one of the most cheerful member of the Shokan Division who has a dark past no one speaks of.

When he was human, he was suicidal. No one knows the exact reason why, but it was recorded by Muraki’s grandfather that he survived without food and water. Even deadly wounds were not enough to kill him, until he finally succumbed 8 years later.

Beautiful cosplay. It makes me wonder what happened to him in the end since the manga was never finished. Anyone have any clue why that is?

Yami no Matsuei or the Descendants of Darkness’ main antagonist, Kazutaka Muraki is a brilliant doctor who laments over losing the lives of his patients… as a cover to the fact that he’s actually a psychotic serial killer who plays with spirits, curses, and the dead.

Do you realize now why I’m so fascinated with him?

And what a brilliant photo this is! With the roses, it looks like he is meeting with Tsuzuki, his “prey”. I love the hair and his trench coat too! Fantastic cosplay!
